Vilmos Wesztergombby

Published January 29,2025

Obituary's Biography:

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved “Papa”, Vilmos Wesztergombby, on January 27, 2025, at the age of 91.

Born in Hungary in 1933, he immigrated to the United States in 1956, where he built a life full of love, family, and community. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. His memory will forever live in our hearts, and we are grateful for the time we had with him.

Prior to emigrating, he was a proud member of the Hungarian Armed Services and graduated from his studies in architecture. An accomplished architect in the United States, Vilmos was also an active member of the Hungarian Clubs in Chicago and Florida. He and his family also cherished the friendships they made in Marinette, WI on their beautiful farm. In addition to being our patriarch, he took it upon himself to be the family’s documentarian—taking pictures and recording life’s most important moments in order to share his life’s joy with family and friends across the world.

Vilmos is survived by his wife of 67 years, Terez Wesztergombby, his children Victoria (Patrick) Carton and Vilmos (Susan) Weszt, his grandchildren Shannon (Ryan) Tambourine, Emily Carton, Jenna Weszt, and Tyler Weszt, and his great-granddaughter Rowan Tambourine.

Please join us in remembering his life, his laughter, and his legacy at the memorial visitation and service to be held on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030 from 11:00am until 2:00pm with the service commencing at 2:00pm.

With love and gratitude, the Wesztergombby family
