Todd W. Nielsen
Obituary's Biography:
Todd William Nielsen, age 47, a resident of Grayslake, passed away on May 24, 2023. He was born on December 24, 1975 in Des Plaines to John Paul Nielsen IV and Mary Jean (nee Rockensock) Nielsen.
Todd was one of nine children born to Mary and John Nielsen and was the second youngest son. Born in Buffalo Grove, he spent many childhood summers at the camper at Lakepoint Resort in Wilmington, Illinois where he would fish, swim and sit by the campfire. Todd was a hardworking and dedicated employee who started working for Brown’s Chicken at the young age of 14. He proudly graduated from Buffalo Grove High School in 1993, a year early, when he started working in the parts department at Dakota K Auto Repair. Todd was a life-long learner and enjoyed problem solving and helping others. He naturally gravitated toward a career path in the automotive insurance industry and worked for many years for an after-market automotive insurance company in the southern suburbs and most recently for Allstate Insurance Company as a Claims Adjustor. Todd loved playing basketball, watching the Bulls and Bears on television and being with his son’s. The formidable years he spent at the campground in his youth molded him into the person he became as an adult. He loved sharing his camping experiences early on in his boys lives and helping them to develop a love for the outdoors. He was private and quiet but once you got past his tough exterior he was loving and caring. More than anything Todd loved his family and his children. He was very close to his brother, Chad, who passed away in 2019 and devoted himself to being the primary caregiver for his mother. He was amazing with managing meals; doctor appointments and household needs without complaint. We will his witty sense of humor, quiet reserve and powerful hugs. Todd passed away peacefully at the age of 47, in his Grayslake home.
Todd is survived by his sons, Kyle of Lemont, Carter of Crestwood, Cole of Oak Forest, and Brayden of Coal City; his mother, Mary Jean Nielsen; his siblings, Natalie (Bart) Hoppe of Algonquin, Michele Nielsen (John T) of Mundelein, John Nielsen V of Kenosha, WI, Adam (Nicola) Nielsen of Sussex, WI, Kimberly (Joseph) DiSalvo of McHenry, Melissa (Brent) Dominowski of Round Lake, and Shelly Nielsen of Hampshire; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, John Paul Nielsen IV; and his brother, Chad Nielsen.
