John C. Longshore

John C. Longshore, 56, of Trevor, WI, passed away unexpectedly on April 19, 2015, at his home. John was born on November 2, 1958, in Denver, CO, to Glenn and Mardell Longshore, nee Reiner. Even after moving to Wisconsin, John continued to be an avid fan of the Bears, Bulls and the Blackhawks. He enjoyed following the Chicago Fire soccer team, going to the games with his children, and especially enjoyed stopping for the game winning treats on the way home. John liked to cook and bake, and was famous for his wonderful chocolate cakes. He loved to travel and had recently taken trips to Costa Rica and the Grand Canyon with his family. He had just returned from a trip to Florida where he enjoyed spending time fishing on the Anclote River. He was looking forward to a return trip to Ireland in the near future. He had property in the LaCrosse, WI area that he enjoyed visiting, and hoped to build on one day.

John can be described as one of the nicest men you could know. He would do anything, for anybody, whenever asked. This meant that he didn’t get to work on many of his own projects, including wood working, but John was that kind of a man, and everyone who knew him will miss him greatly.

John is survived by his daughter, Samantha Longshore, of Milwaukee, WI, and his son, Aaron Longshore of Bristol, WI, as well as his former wife, Sherri, with whom he remained friends. John is further survived by his brother Glenn E. (Sue) Longshore, Lake Villa, IL, his nephews Alex, and Christian, and his great niece, Braelyn. John was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Karl. He will be greatly missed by everyone in Sherri’s family, as a wonderful brother-in-law, son-in-law, uncle, and great uncle.

A visitation for John will be held on Thursday, April 23 from 4 P.M. till 8 P.M. at the Strang Funeral Chapel. Alyce Beemsterboer

Alyce Beemsterboer, 85, passed away April 19, 2015. Adeline R. Warzenski, 85, passed away April 12, 2015. Barbara Jean Gilbert

Barbara Jean Gilbert, 75, passed away on April 8, 2015 at home, in Wildwood. Barbara was born on July 1, 1939, to Walter and Evelyn Purdy nee Miller in Chicago, IL. Barbara loved to crochet blankets for The Project Linus, a non- profit organization that would meet once a month, providing homemade blankets to children in need. George A. Gruber

George Gruber, age 90, of Grayslake, passed away Friday, April 3, 2015 at his home. He was born on June 27, 1924 in Chicago, IL to Charles and Elsie Gruber. He was a veteran of World War II having served for the US Army and a member of the Grayslake American Legion. George graduated from Sign School and worked as a sign painter, as a milkman for Spinney Run Farms in Libertyville for over 30 years, and as a janitor for Magee Middle School in Round Lake and College of Lake County, and was a volunteer Grayslake Police Officer. George was a member and volunteer, as a minister of care for the sick, of St. Gilbert Church and a volunteer and minister of care for St. Therese Hospital and Winchester House. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Antioch Moose Lodge. George is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary, his children, James (Paula) Gruber, Eileen (Jim) Siwula, Gerard (Jackie) Gruber, and George Gruber Jr., his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his sister Imelda Thome, and his numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Ann, his sons Gregory and Eugene, and his 2 brothers and 1 sister. George E. Weinert

George E. Weinert, age 53, of Grayslake, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2015 at Advocate Condell in Libertyville, IL. He was born on January 26, 1962 in Choteau, MT to James and Annetta Weinert. George worked for 25 years for W W Grainger and was a member of the Grayslake Park District for over 10 years. He enjoyed fishing, brewing his own beer, and fixing anything that was broken. Ronald John Deiler

Ronald John Deiler, 69, of Grayslake, passed away on March 28, 2015 at Condell Hospital in Libertyville, Il. Ron was born on February 9, 1946 to John and Alice Deiler nee Ullman, in Chicago ,IL. Ron loved the Green Bay Packers, he was an avid hunter, fisherman, he also had a passion for gardening, landscaping, but what Ron cherished most was his time spent with his entire family. Ron was an Alumus Of Northland College in Ashland, Wi, and retired after working 30 plus years at Tyson Foods. Survivors include Ron’s wife of 39 years Christine, they were married on June 29, 1975 in Chicago, Il. Ron’s children David(Kelly)Deiler of Grayslake, Allison(James)Simon of Crystal Lake, Ron was a devoted grampy to Mikayla, John, Jimmy, and Annabelle. Victoria Ann Wylie, 56, a resident of Lake Villa, IL passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015 in McHenry, IL. She was born January 4, 1959 in Evanston, IL to Arthur and Roberta Phillips. She was a member of the North Lake County Quilters Guild and had worked for the Durham Bus Company in Lake Villa as a bus driver and bus aid. Anthony T. DuBeau

Anthony T. DuBeau, 23, a resident of Kenosha, WI, passed away March 11, 2015 at MCAS Yuma, AZ. He was born November 28, 1991 in Libertyville, IL to Tonia and Brian DuBeau. Anthony was an outstanding and exceptional Marine, always striving to be the best and going above and beyond in every aspect of his life. He had joined the Marine Corps on April 1, 2013 and reached the rank of Lance Corporal. Anthony was the loving husband to Candice DuBeau, having been together for 8 ½ years. Gerald J. Laurent

Gerald J. Laurent, 91, a resident of Round Lake, passed away March 16, 2015 in Woodstock, IL. He was born May 2, 1923 in Waukegan to Reuben and Rosemary Laurent. Gerald was a cowboy, a veteran of World War II having served as a Merchant Marine and with the US Army. He was a member of the IBEW Local 134 and was a longtime art student at the College of Lake County, where he enjoyed painting. Gerald is survived by his children Steven (Barbara), Douglas (Carolyn), and Paul (Karen), his grandchildren Shawn, Gabrielle, and Matthew, his great-grandchildren Aiden, Arriana, and Kieran, his sister Cecilia Laurent, and numerous nieces and nephews. Gladys M. Mankowski

Gladys M. Mankowski, 89, passed away March 14, 2015. Gladys was born May 4, 1925 in Duluth, MN. She was a long time resident of Grayslake having moved to the area in 1954. Gladys is survived by her three children James, John, and Joan, her seven grandchildren Rachel, Johnathan, Jacob, Anna Rose, John Dwaine, Jeffrey, and Jessica, her loving sister Delores Weinburger, her two great-grandchildren Lillian Rose and Natalie Sage. Gladys also leaves behind many other loving relatives and friends. Gladys was a faithful member of St. Gilberts Parish, volunteering as a school nurse for many years in the 1960’s and 1970’s. James A. (Jim) Adams

James A. (Jim) Adams, age 89, died unexpectedly on Saturday, March 14, 2015. He, his wife and daughters were in Madison, WI to attend the performance of their grandson, Ian, in the Broadway tour of “The Book of Mormon” when he collapsed in the theater lobby. Born July 5, 1925, Jim attended Warren High School and enlisted in the Army in 1945 serving as a medic in the Constabulary based in Southern Germany. He graduated from the School of Agriculture at the University of Illinois in February 1951. It was here he met his wife of 65 years, Wilma Pellizzari. He partnered with his father on a dairy farm in Wadsworth, served as a herdsman for two years and went to Carthage College night school to get his teaching certificate. He taught seventh grade science at Hawthorn Junior High School for 24 years. He amused his students by strolling down the hallway loudly singing the “Illinois Loyalty” on Fridays before football games. He was also remembered for a chant devised to help students with a definition for osmosis. He retired in 1988. He was one of two people hired by the Lake County Farm Bureau to be the first presenters of the “Ag in the Classroom” program. He visited fourth grades all over Lake County until hearing loss prevented him from continuing. He loved to sing and was a long time former member of the St. Gilbert’s Choir. Jim loved to ski, doing so until having a CVA in 2007. He and his wife loved ballroom dancing and did so most Friday nights. He still exercised at Gurnee Centre Club three times a week, where the camaraderie was a big factor. Gardening was another favorite he had to give up. He is survived by his wife; his children Mark, Barbara, Carol (Tony) Liberto, and David; his five grandchildren, Christina (Brandon) Hunter, Ian (Kasey) Liberto, Kaitlin, Lauren and Andrew Adams; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Margaret (Graham) Adams; four brothers, Ray, Don, Lloyd and Bud Adams; his sister, Margaret; and his sons-in-law Ray Lindal and Tony Liberto. Donna Ballatin, age 61, of Grayslake, passed away on March 2, 2015. She was born on June 11, 1953 in Chicago. Donna was a long time employee of Grayslake Family Dental. She influenced those around her with her sense of humor, determination, and positive outlook on life. Robert (Pookey) Kutzler, 78, of Gages Lake, IL., passed away on March 13, 2015, at Advocate Condell in Libertyville. He was born on March 21, 1936, in Waukegan, IL. He was the owner and operator of Kutzler Express, Inc. and a U.S. Army veteran. James Retis, 67, of Round Lake passed away on March 7, 2015 at Lake Forest Hospital. James was born on September 22, 1947 in Chicago, to Albert, C. Mary Retis nee Tolush. James was an avid history buff, he really loved his home, and the landscaping, loved to cook, going to the race track, and betting on the ponies, but most of all loved spending time with his family and friends. John L. Keefe

John L. Keefe, age 86, of Grayslake passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Addolorata Villa in Wheeling. He was born May 6, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio, to Lawrence and Elizabeth (Diemert) Keefe. For 25 years, Jack worked at Abbott Labs, retiring in 1993. Jack loved to ski, boat, and do other outside activities. He also played cards with his sons and grandchildren, but most of all Jack enjoyed spending time with his family. Joseph Blas

Joseph Blas, 102, a resident of North Riverside and formerly of Round Lake Beach, passed away Monday March 9, 2015 at his home. He was born December 16, 1912 in Poland to Adam and Eva Blaszczykiewicz. Joseph was a veteran and POW in World War II having served with the Polish Armed Forces. He was a member of Indian Hill Chapel in Round Lake Beach. Joseph is survived by his sons John Blas and Zenon (Rebecca) Blas, his sisters Maria, Agnes, Theresa, and Elizabeth.
