Daniel “Dan the Man” Rieck, 66, a resident of Antioch, IL passed away January 18, 2016. He was born February 6, 1949 in Chicago, IL. Dan was a lover of boats and master of tools at Ace Hardware and Rieck’s Ship and Boatyard in Chicago. He was a super fan of Journey and High Infidelity and the self proclaimed coach of Da’ Bears. Joy Rene Grubbs, 56, a resident of Gurnee, passed away December 8, 2015 at the Cancer Center of America in Zion, IL. She was born June 28, 1959 in Waukegan to Russ and Marlene Constantino. Joy was a member of St. Patrick’s Church as were her children. She had been in the Mortgage Industry for over 30 years. Joy had the most contagious laugh that anyone will ever hear. She was a wonderful daughter to Marlene and Russ Constantino, a wonderful sister to her brothers, she was the best and loving mother to her 2 beautiful kids, Brittney and Megan, and the best grandma to Julia Joy. Joy knew many people and was loved by many and was known as one of the biggest animal lovers you could know. Barbara C. Palazzolo, age 76, a longtime resident of Wildwood for 53 years, passed away at her home on Wednesday, January 13, 2016. She was born on December 19, 1939 in Chicago. She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church and a Gagewood Lioness. From 1985-2005 she was chief deputy assessor for Warren Township and school bus driver for nine years for Woodland School District 50 and worked for Abbott Labs from 1958-1964. She received the Lions’ International Melvin Jones Fellow award and the Illinois Lions’ Foundation Fellow Award. She was a member of the Lake County Woman’s Bowling Association. She is survived by her husband, Victor, whom she married on May 4, 1963; her children, Steven (Sue) Palazzolo of Gurnee and Anita (Will) Gregory of Sturgeon Bay, WI; grandchildren, Nicholas, Timothy, Miranda and Julia; brother Thomas (Annette) Cwik; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Caroline Cwik, a sister, Lorraine Mora and a brother, James Cwik. Shirley M. Weidner
Shirley Mae Weidner, age 83, a 19-year resident of Mesa, AZ and formerly of Libertyville, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa, AZ. She was born on January 4, 1932 in Lake Forest to Elmer and Helen Hoffman. Shirley graduated from Libertyville High School in 1949 and furthered her education at St. Therese School of Nursing, graduating in 1952. On August 23, 1952, she married Robert W. Weidner at Santa Maria Del Popolo. They lived in California and Washington while Bob was in the Army. Returning to Illinois in 1953, she worked for several years at St. Therese, then worked at Advocate Condell Medical Center for 40 years. After her retirement she worked part-time for Quantum Health Resources and transferred to Mesa, AZ to a warmer climate and lots of sunshine. Shirley is survived by her three children, Pam DeVore of Waukegan, Gerry (Julie) Weidner of Gurnee, and Dan (Carolyn Nobbe) Weidner of Eagle River, WI; four grandchildren, Robert (Jennifer) DeVore, Amanda (Angel) Arzet, Gracie (AJ) Kegg, and Trevor Weidner; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Tober and Evelyn Karlasky; and one brother-in-law, Dick Weidner. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Robert in 2003. Charles “Chuck” Paul Altman, 78 of Kenosha, WI for the past 12 year formally of Round Lake Beach, IL for 58 years went home to the lord surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, January 7th. Charles was the only child of the late Ernest and Grace Altman (nee Peddie). Preceeded in death by his parent, son Jerry, as well as many dear family members and friends. Survived by his loving wife and best friend of nearly 44 years Judie (nee Solberg), mother-in-law Betty Solberg, daughter Jodi (Lane) Cagle and son Jason (Courtni) Altman, adored granddaughters Stephanie (Adam) Altman, Abby Cagle and Natalie Altman. Two loving grandsons, Cory Cagle and Devin Goetz. Proud Papa (Great Grandpa) of Gavin Loftus. Charles was proud to be in the first graduating class of Round Lake High School in 1956. Together with his wife, Charles was the talented and well respect owner of Altman’s Flower and Gift Box in Round Lake Beach for over 38 years. He was involved for over 50 years in the floral industry both on a national and state level. He served as President of the Round Lake Chamber of Commerce and served on the board. More recently he served the Keonsha Community as a volunteer for the Kemper Center especially his annual decorating of the Durkee Mansion. Aside from spending time with his cherished family, Chuck enjoyed scrapbooking, photography, gardening, shopping, traveling, card playing and always looked forward to a call from his dear friends. Leona Rae Rogal, age 70, a resident of Round Lake Beach, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. She was born on January 31, 1945 in Omaha, NE to Day and Nellie Newbold. Leona was a kind and caring wife, mother, grandmother, friend and co-worker to anyone she worked with. She always tried to help out whenever she could and in any way she could. She loved nature, animals, camping, crocheting and knitting, kids, and people in general. She was a loyal friend to friends, those in her church, and even total strangers. She loved helping out the less fortunate and she never complained about anything or let anything get in her way, even later on when she was ill. She loved her family and friends, was concerned for them and she worried when they didn’t keep in touch. She loved to babysit children and crochet hats and blankets for them. Leona was a nurse’s aide when she was younger, but in later years switched to daycare and working with children. Kids and family were her world. She was always doing crafts with kids, so that they could give them to their parents for Christmas. She was a member of the Gurnee S.D.A. Church in Gurnee, IL and tried to attend services, when her health allowed her to. Leona is survived by her husband, Walter, whom she married on May 25, 1973 in Chicago; her daughter, Renee Rogal of Round Lake Beach; and her granddaughter, Mary Rogal of Round Lake Beach. Henry Clyde Pletcher, age 72, of Round Lake, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He was born in Chicago on January 11, 1943 to Raymond and Margaret (nee DePyssler) Pletcher. Henry was a United States Marine vet who loved to fish and go camping. He also enjoyed trains and was an avid Cubs fan , Henry belonged to the I.B.E.W local 134 electricians for over 40 years.
