Patricia Joan Raia, age 77, a resident of Lake Villa, passed away Monday, November 16, 2015 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. She was on May 7, 1938 in Chicago to Henry and Sophie (nee Beller) Schneider. She was a parishioner at St. Gilberts Church. Patricia enjoyed shopping, gardening and life. But, she really loved spending time with friends and family. Edward J. Sychta, 92, a resident of Grayslake, IL passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, Saturday, November 14, 2015 at his home in Grayslake. He was born July 9, 1923 in Chicago to Joseph and Lottie (nee: Urbanski) Sychta. Edward was a World War II veteran. He was a long standing President of the Vernon Hills Seniors Organization, he enjoyed the casino, but most of all he loved all of the family gatherings and being with his family. Michael D. Henderson
Michael David Henderson died on November 8, 2015 in Grayslake, IL due to complications following liver cancer. He was 64.
Michael was born on October 7, 1951 in Berea, KY to his parents, David and Connie Henderson. He graduated with honors from Florida Institute of Technology with a degree in Medical Technology in 1977. Michael worked in the healthcare field for many years before retiring to pursue his first love, traditional jazz music. He was an accomplished guitar player, holding the first chair in the University of North Carolina Big Band. He gave freely of his time playing for various charitable causes, infirmed seniors and teaching students interested in the traditional jazz genre. Michael was also an avid angler, beach comber, velocipeder and lover of John D. McDonald books.
Michael is survived by his mother Connie Henderson of Grayslake, IL; her son Scott Henderson; his wife Susan Henderson; their children Tyler Waugh and Max Henderson and son in-law Al Carlson. He is preceded in death by his father, Samuel David Henderson.

John A. Augustine, age 73, of Wildwood, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at his home. He was born March 22, 1942 in Waukegan to Willard and Fannie Augustine. Richard M. “Dick” Geissinger, 96, of Wheeling, IL went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 7, 2015 surrounded by his family at Journey Care Hospice in Barrington Born August 12, 1919 in Huntingdon, PA to M. Clair Geissinger and H. Mary (nee: Streightiff). Richard was united in marriage to the late Doris Marie Hughes on December 29, 1943 in Huntingdon, PA. Richard’s greatest joys in life were his faith, his family, especially being a grandfather, and serving others. Dick was a caring and compassionate man in life. He was a member of the Kingswood United Methodist Church for 25 years and had worked as a Vice President and General Manager for ABM Elevator Services. Dick is survived by his daughter Jeri (William Lissimore) Apland, his granddaughter April Apland, his grandson Luke Apland, his great-grandchildren Payten and Rylie, and his brother Robert Geissinger of Huntingdon, PA. Helene Hildegard Sywyk (born Hecker).
Helene, “Oma” was 90 years old when she passed away at her home early morning Saturday, November 7th, surrounded by loving family and friends at her bedside. She died of complications from a heart attack that occurred earlier in the week.
Helene was born in Silesia, Germany in 1925. In 1953 she married her beloved husband of 33 years, Stefan. In 1956 they immigrated to America, settling in Chicago, where they started their family. Their first son, Michael “Mike” was born in 1958, and Stefan ”Steve/Schtevie”, in 1962. Wanting to live in a more rural setting, they moved to Round Lake Park, IL, in 1970, and then to their current home in Round Lake in 1975.
Helene’s door was always open to people stopping by. Her kitchen table was the place of many discussions and meals with family, friends and anyone who sat down to wait for Mike or Steve for more than a minute. No-one was allowed to leave the house without eating something. She loved to cook, especially for others, and she loved food (especially kit-kat bars). She loved to spoil her grandchildren with yummy treats, usually offering them baked goods and other sweets. Helene loved cats and always had one around the house. Although each cat was unique, they were always named “mitzi” (kitty in German). Helene’s favorite hobby was gardening, she loved to plant and tend her flower garden….she absolutely loved flowers. She also liked to make good use of everything growing in her garden by preparing all-natural, home-made foods, cooking, baking her special “kuchen” and making jellies and preserves. She also enjoyed knitting, sewing and traveling. She made several trips to Germany, California, Hawaii and numerous other destinations to visit family, friends and places of interest to her.
Helene was preceded in death by her loving husband Stefan, sole sister Gertrude, and Sister in-law Anastasia Malejkyj. She is survived by her 2 sons, Michael(Cindy) and Steve(Denice). “Oma” is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Tania(Jose), Crystal, Jennifer(Michael), Robin(Jeret), Michael and Laura, as well as 7 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Strang Funeral Chapel on Saturday, Nov. 14th, with viewing time starting at 11:30 am until 1:00pm with the funeral service commencing at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Avon Cemetery in Grayslake, IL.
There will be a reception with early supper following the burial, at Johnny’s Chophouse, 1500 Main St.(Rt 83), Antioch, IL 60002, all are invited to attend.

Sharon L. Welch (nee: Hendee), 81, of Round Lake, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2015, peacefully at her home. She was born June 25, 1934 in Waukegan, IL to Elmer “Nibs” and Kathryn Hendee. She graduated from Grant High School in 1952 and went on to study nursing at St. Therese in Waukegan. On September 21, 1957 she married Robert Welch at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Round Lake, IL. She continued her nursing career until she became a full-time stay at home mother to her five children. Edward Emerson Cozzens of Waukegan, beloved husband of Teresa, father of Julia Burnett and Edward Cozzens and grandfather of Austriana Burnett and Keishara Cozzens passed away at his home, Monday, October 5, 2015 after a long illness. He was born in Chicago on January 12, 1949 to John and Lillian (Midderhoff) Cozzens. Edward is also survived by his brother, John (Dannyae) Cozzens; his sister, Antoinette Richardson; uncles John, Joe (Shirley) and Thomas Midderhoff; nephews John (Andreia), Stephen (Jennifer) and William Cozzens; and many cousins, great-nieces and nephews, and in-laws. Julius G. Eckhoff
Julius G. Eckhoff, 94, of Grayslake, Il, passed away on October 31, 2015, in Libertyville, Il. Julius was born on July 3, 1921, to Fredrick and Ruth Eckhoff nee Gumm in Petersburg, Il. After graduating high school he came to Grayslake and worked for his brother, Edward, in an appliance business. On October 25, 1942 he enlisted in the Army Air Corp. After his training in the states as a turret gunner in a B26 he was sent over to England. He completed 66 missions over enemy territory. He received an honorable discharge and returned to Grayslake on June 9, 1945. He was in the propane business with his brother Edward for five years, then went to Great Lakes Naval Training Station to work as an air conditioning and refrigeration mechanic. He was in charge of the refrigeration and air conditioning for Great Lakes Naval Hospital. He retired from there in 1980. Survivors include his wife Shirley DeGraff they were married on October 20, 1945 making their home in Grayslake, Two children Charles(Wilma) of Plano, Tx, Sharon of Oak Park, 3 grandchildren Taylor, Aaron, and Christopher. Julius was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents, 2 brothers Edward, William and by 2 sisters Janice, and Francis. Sylvia Jane Shenkman (nee: Canele), 66, born February, 20, 1949 succumbed to her death on October 25, 2015, with her loving husband, Gary, by her side. Sylvia was born and raised in Chicago, IL and was an administrative assistant and production manager for Cahners Publishing Company. Lucille Ellen Wrate (nee: Burge)
Lucille Wrate, 91, of Beach Park passed away on October 12, 2015 at Rolling Hills Manor, Zion. She was born February 12, 1924 in Grayslake, IL. She attended Immanuel Church for most of her adult life where she was a Sunday School teacher for some 20 years and helped in the nursery. Lucille loved to camp with her husband Bill. They were members of the Lake County Rambling Rigs and the Badger Camping Club of Wisconsin. After retiring they spent winters in Florida with their friends. Lucille was also an avid Nascar fan and member of the Matt Kensenth Fan Club. Matt dedicated a brick in her name at his museum in Cambridge Wisconsin in 2013. Lucille is most remembered though for her dedication as a caring mother and grandmother. For seven months she spent every day at her daughter Carolyn’s bedside before her passing. She was truly the best mom one could have. She leaves sons, William R. William L. Schmidt, age 60, a resident of Loves Park, IL, passed away at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rockford on Monday, October 19, 2015 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Bill was born on October 6, 1955. He attended both Woodland and Warren schools and lived most of his life in Wildwood. Bill was an accomplished weight lifter as well as a black-belt in Tae Kwon Do. He worked in the manufacturing industry in early years and later became a Mail Carrier with the United States Postal Service. Bill was a happy person and well loved by friends and family. David A. Scheck, 50, a resident of Spring Grove, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2015. He was born March 22, 1965 in Berwyn, IL to Allan and Terri Scheck. David was a top CNC Salesman for 520 Machinery in Schaumburg. He enjoyed snow skiing, wake boarding, boating, and bass fishing with his dad. Nicholas “Nick” D. Altmann, 23, a resident of McHenry, passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2015 in Chicago. He was born October 1, 1992 in Waukegan to Daniel Altmann and Traci Gray. Nick was a graduate of McHenry West Campus. He was a member of Alliance Bible Church in McHenry and worked for AFC in Lake of the Hills. He enjoyed church, work, and spending time with his family. Nick is survived by his parents Traci (David Berrard) Gray and Daniel (Yumi) Altmann, his siblings Emily (Deonte) Gray, Riki Altmann, Madison Berrard, and Henry Berrard, his grandparents Kathleen Stegen and Paul Altmann, Patricia Altmann, and Linda and Bruce Guy, his great-grandma Mary Ellen Timmerman, his cousins Kevin, Mike, Halie, Mallory, and Kaylee, his nephew Aiden, his best friend Christopher Hawkinson, and numerous aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his grandpa Richard Gray and his aunt Lisa Gray. Friends of the family may visit on Saturday, October 17, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a funeral service commencing at 7:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 East Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030.
