Ivelisse Ruiz Murphy

Ivelisse “Evie” Ruiz Murphy, 50, a resident of South Milwaukee, WI, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2016. She was born July 19, 1966, in Waukegan, IL to Osvaldo and Anna Ruiz. Evie loved all holidays especially Halloween and Christmas. She was a member of the B’Nai Macccabim Temple in Des Plaines. Evie always had a smile and was able to make anyone laugh. Evie is survived by her children Siobhan Murphy, Alyssa Murphy, Paul Murphy, Kyle (Brittany) Murphy, her grandson Charlie Murphy, her boyfriend Bill Lygte, her step-father Paco Ortiz, and her former husband and father to her children Michael Murphy. She was preceded in death by her parents, her 4 aunts, and her step-sister Sybil. Phyllis Rae Bradley

Phyllis Rae Bradley, age 78, of Cary, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Lexington Rehab Center in Lake Zurich. She was born March 6, 1938 in Sycamore to Carl and Lillian Gorbet. Phyllis was an avid reader, who also liked to crochet and loved sports—Cubs, Bears, and Bulls. She is survived by her loving husband of 22 years, Bruce, whom she married on February 14, 1994; her children, Tracy Esposito, Tina DeGryse, and Tim Simmons; her grandchildren, Jonah Kreinberg of Cary, Jackson Esposito of Cary, Alysa Hyland of Bolingbrook, Nick Hyland of Bolingbrook, Zachary Simmons of McHenry and Ryan Simmons of McHenry. Patricia L. Johnson

Patricia L. Johnson, 61, a resident of Grayslake, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Lake Forest Hospital in Lake Forest, IL.  She was born November 7, 1954 in Chicago, IL.  Patricia is survived by her daughter Jodi (Dave) Reisch, her son Shawn (Jeanine) Hansen, her daughter Jennifer (Philip) Clark, her son Bobby (Danielle) Knowles, and her grandchildren Karina Hansen, Matthew Hansen, Kyle Hansen, Jazmyn Clark, Joseph Clark, Trichia Bravi, Tyler Demars, and Joshua Demars.  A memorial visitation and service is scheduled for Thursday, October 13, 2016 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm with a memorial service commencing at 7:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Rita Ann Schmidt

Rita Ann Schmidt was being cared for in her home when she was called to her home in Heaven on October 7, 2016.  Rita was born in Manitowoc, WI on June 3, 1936 to Michael Trainor and Lucy (nee: Sherer) Trainor.  Rita graduated from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, WI in 1953, Manitowoc County Teachers College in 1955 and received her B.S. degree from Northern Illinois University in 1962.  Rita taught in several schools in Round Lake, IL, Lake Villa, IL and Lincolnshire, IL for a total of 30 years.  Rita also enjoyed working in the greenhouse at Six Flags in Gurnee, IL during the summers.  Rita is survived by her husband Eugene Schmidt, daughters Terri (Steve) Payton, Debbi (Andrew) Wysocki, and Michael (Sherry) Schmidt, her grandchildren Nicole (Jeremy) Copley, Justin (Trsit) Payton, Jessica Wysocki, Christopher Wysocki, her great-grandchildren Nathan, Kyle, Jasmyn, and Mia Payton and their mother Amanda Ranchel, Lazarus and Noah Payton, and Jacob and Joshua Copley.  Rita was a parishioner at St. Gilbert Catholic Church in Grayslake, IL and after moving to Saddlebrook Farms Retirement Community became a parishioner at St. Mary of Annunciation Catholic Church Fremont Center.  Rita was an active member at both churches in P.A.D.S., SPRED, St. Gilbert Seniors Club, and St. Mary of the Annunciation Seniors Club.  A memorial visitation and mass are scheduled for Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 9:00 am until 10am with a memorial mass commencing at 10:00am at St. Mary of Annunciation 22333 W. Charlottte “Pat” A. Scheskie

Charlotte “Pat” A. Mildred E. Sanecki

Mildred E. Sanecki, 96, a resident of Grayslake and formerly of Brookfield and Lyons, passed away Monday, October 3, 2016, in Libertyville, IL.  She was born September 15, 1920 in Brookfield to Frank and Mary Zdenek.  Mildred had worked as a cook at Richard’s Restaurant and was a homemaker.  She liked gardening and taking care of her family.  Mildred is survived by her children Julie Govaker, Theodore Sanecki, and Steven Sanecki, her granddaughter Andrea (Billy) Langston, and her siblings Emily, Bob, and Marie.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Theodore Sanecki, and her siblings Rose, Evelyn, and Frank.  A visitation is scheduled for Friday, October 7, 2016 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Patricia L. Wells

Patricia L. Wells, 61, a resident of Grayslake, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.  She was born March 5, 1955 in Libertyville, IL to Bill and Nellie Saddler.  Patricia was most recently an employee of Lincare in Wauconda and was the Committee Chair of the Boyscouts Troop 451.  Patricia is survived by her husband of 40 years, Jeff, her children Scott and Erin Wells, and her siblings Larry (Jeanne) Saddler and Pamela Saddler.  She was preceded in death by her parents.  A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, October 6, 2016 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Florene Marie Bohan, 78, formerly of Waukegan passed away Friday. September 30, 2016 at Winchester House in Libertyville.

She was born May 18, 1938 in Buckman MN to the parents of Herman (Margaret) Schamal.

Franz John Baker

Franz John Baker, age 81, formerly of Round Lake, passed away Monday, September 26, 2016 at Willowfield in Delavan, Wisc.  He was born on March 2, 1935 in Chicago and was a Pace bus driver. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marie, whom he married on October 13, 1956; daughters, Diane Baker and Barbara Ann (Michael) Message; grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark) Diefenbacher, Joanne (David) Mueller, Brian (Cindy) Baker, and Melissa (Frank) Foley; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jaclyn, Jayden, Hannah, Michael, Blake, Alex and David; and one brother, Tom Baker. Katherine M. Kotulla

Katherine M. Kotulla, 97, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Brookdale Senior Living in Vernon Hills.   She was born November 21, 1918 in Chicago to Mathias and Katherine (Geisen) Simon.  She spent her early childhood in Aachen, Germany before her family settled in the Northwest side of Chicago.  She married Norbert J. Kotulla in 1941 and they celebrated 66 years of marriage before his death in 2008. Loving sister to Matt Simon (deceased); loving mother to Michael J. Kotulla (deceased), Jerry Kotulla, M.D. of Asheville, NC, Wendy Kotulla and spouse Lori Rieth of Third Lake.  Long time resident of Chicago and Park Ridge.  She lived 97 full years on this earth.  We will miss her spirit. Victor A. Leogrande

Victor Anthony Leogrande, 94, a resident of Grayslake, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016 at The Village of Victory Lakes in Lindenhurst where he received wonderful care. He was born July 1, 1922 in Syracuse, NY.  Victor was a World War II veteran having served with the US Army.  He was a lifelong employee of Walgreens and a loving husband and father.  Victor is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pearl, his daughter Jeanette Mummert, his grandson Adam Victor Shearin, and his great-grandchildren La’Eabha Shearin, Pax Shearin, and Kaylin Shearin.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother John Leogrande.  A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, October 2, 2016 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Donald W. Birgerson

Donald Walter Birgerson, age 77 , passed away on September 22, 2016. Donald was born in Chicago, IL to Walter Alfred and Ebba Sophia  Birgerson on June 15, 1939.  He graduated from Wittenberg University in Ohio and was a member of Christus Victor Lutheran Church. He worked as a Microsystems Sales Consultant and retired from Leica Microsystems after 40 years. Spouse:  Sandra Kay Birgerson.  He married Sandra Kay nee: Thompson in 1961. Donald was involved in a variety of activities throughout his life including the Church Choir, Rotary Club, CB Radio club, Ship Model club, Bridge club, and the Girl Scouts. Donald is preceded in death by Walter Alfred Birgerson (father), Ebba Sophia Birgerson (mother), David Allen Scott (Son-in-law).  Donald is survived by Sandra Kay Birgerson, Laureen Renee Scott, David Wayne and Deborah June Hammitt, Susanne Michele Birgerson.  Sister, June Dolores and Paul Belin.  (Grandchildren) Trevor Mitchell Scott, Haley Michelle Scott and Brandon Cole Hammitt. Michael Frances Butler “Tank”

Michael Frances Butler “Tank”, a Warren alumni, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2016. He was born September 21, 1967 in Chicago. Mikey was a phenomenal artist, a lover of music and movies and an avid Notre Dame and Chicago White Sox fan. He was preceded in death by his brother, Brian Butler. He leaves behind his two daughters, Alexandra M. Butler and Alyssa Butler, his spoiled animals, and “his girl”, Joelle Radke. Florence Groll

Florence Groll, age 86, passed away at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Round Lake Beach on September 20, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.  The staff of Hillcrest along with the Hospice group surrounded Florence with care, comfort and compassion during her final days.  From her birth on October 26, 1929 in Morton Grove until her death, she lived a simple, unpretentious life.  On November 24, 1929, Florence was baptized by Rev. A. H. Werfelmann of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Glenview.  As a child, Florence attended church, played the clarinet and enjoyed basketball, where she earned her nickname of “Pony” due her swiftness of foot.  She enjoyed craft making, playing cards, baking, and completing puzzle books.  Florence had a strong work ethic.  She was a solderer and factory worker most of her life and later worked as a home care assistant for senior citizens into her mid-70s.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Josephine Glauner, her sisters, Violet and Lorraine, and her husband, Harry Groll.  Left to honor her memory are her son, Charles (Donna Eckel), her daughters, Judy (Steve) Davis, Carol (John) Anderson, and Linda (Craig) Somerville, and her grandchildren, Christian, Shawn, Serina, Johnny, Cindy, Shelly, Heather, Nick, Craig and Steven, and her many great-grandchildren.  Florence received Jesus Christ as her Savior as a child and recently rededicated her life to the Lord.  A visitation will be held at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 East Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2016 followed by a 10 a.m. service also at the funeral chapel.  Interment will follow at Avon Centre Cemetery.  For information, please call 847-223-8122 or go to www.strangfuneral.org.

Patricia Angelos

Patricia Kathleen Angelos, age 74, passed away Monday, September 19, 2016 at Vista  Medical Center East in Waukegan.  She was born in Chicago on October 20, 1941 to Harold and Ethel (Schiffelbein) Matthews.  Patricia was a waitress and bartender most of her life.  She loved her son very much and her neighbor, Jeff, whom she called her second son who took such good care of her and her wonderful neighbors next door.  She also adored her beloved dog, Piper.  Patricia is survived by her son, Russel Edmund (Jennifer) Scott of Florida; her grandchildren, Zachery Scott, Russel Cooper Scott, T-Jae Scott and Noah Scott; and her siblings, Diana (Dennis) Staral of Round Lake, Mary (Ray) Staral of Iola, Wisc., Robert Matthews of Bristol, Wisc., and Harold (Connie) Matthews of Waukegan.  She was predeceased by her mother, Ethel Dombkoski, father, Harold Matthews, son, Joseph Angelos, and brother, Earl Wett.  Friends of the family may visit from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 East Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030, followed by an 11:00 a.m. funeral mass at St. Gilbert Catholic Church, 301 East Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030. Frank W. Dorfler

Frank W. Dorfler, 76, of Grayslake, passed away peacefully September 15, 2016.  He was born to Alfred and Ruby (Snyder) Dorfler of Grayslake on August 28, 1940.  Frank was a lifelong resident of Grayslake and had a long career as a truck driver in the Lake County area.  He enjoyed cooking, woodworking, carving and spending time with Reno, his Boxer.  Frank was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Maryann (Dorfler) Wells.  He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Darlene (Diebold) and his son, Ed (Donna Caringello).  Visitation is on Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 East Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030.  There will be a brief service at 7:00 p.m., also at the funeral chapel.  Interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Elija’s Mantle, or just raise a beer and make a toast in Frank’s honor. John “Jack” Flynn

John(Jack) Flynn born July 22,1933, passed away September 18, 2016. Jack grew up in the Canaryville neighborhood on the south side of Chicago, where he met the love of his life, Dorisann Cox. They married on September 21,1957 at St. Gabriel’s Parish and enjoyed 59 wonderful years together. Jack was a beloved father to (the late) Kathleen, Ann, Neil, Tim, Dan and Ellen and later helped raise his nephew, Bill Cox. In1969 they moved to Waukegan to raise their family. After years of success working in freight auditing, his love of writing brought him to the News Sun where he was a feature writer, a job he loved. His wit, humor and silliness will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his children, 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, brother Ed Flynn and sister Mary Fitzpatrick. A memorial service mass will be held for Jack at St. Gabriel’s Parish 4522 S. Jacqueline P. Herskovitz

Jacqueline P. (nee: Schuck) Herskovitz, 84, a resident of Round Lake Beach, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Advocate Condell Medical in Libertyville.  She was born August 20, 1932 in Minneapolis, MN to Harold and Georgia (nee: Ziebarth) Eggert.  Jacqueline was a member of the Bridge Club, spent many years in a bowling league, and played bingo.  Jacqueline is survived by her children Todd (Cheryl) Schuck of Spring Grove, Thomas (Lisa) Schuck of Round Lake, and Troy Schuck of Round Lake, her 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and her siblings Joan (Ron) Olson of Minnesota and Gerome (Carole) Eggert of Minnesota.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Lee Schuck, her second husband Robert Herskovitz, and her son Lee Timothy Schuck.  A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 11:00am at Oak Hill 76 E. Ellen Hazard

Ellen (Jean) Hazard, 89, of Grayslake IL, passed away September 16, 2016 with family by her side.  Ellen was born in Star, OK on 11/14/26.  She moved to the Zion area after her marriage to Theodore Hazard on December 29, 1945.  They were married 24 years until his death in 1970.  Ellen worked at Zion businesses, One Hour Martinizing, Ehler’s Lanes, Rittenhouse Grocery, Zion Bread Store and the Zion Restaurant.  She enjoyed embroidery, quilting and old country music but most of all she enjoyed having her family around.  She loved every minute of the visits from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  They were the highlight of her life.  Ellen is survived by her sons, Charles of Zion and Larry of Gurnee; daughters, Kathy Cherry of Wickenburg, AZ and Joyce Hazard of Waukegan; one sister, Leona Gossett of Keota, OK; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Illinois, Wisconsin, California and Tennessee. She was predeceased by her husband, Theodore, parents, William Washington and Frances Viola Lee of Starr, OK, son, Richard of Huntland, TN, daughter, Judy Hartly of Salem, WI, brothers, Frank Lee of Keota, OK, Leonard Lee of Stockton, CA, Robert Lee of Keota OK, Charlie Lee of Starr, OK,  and sisters, Leathie Gossett of Keota, OK and Etha Nance of Stigler, OK. Kenneth H. Riendeau

Kenneth Henry Riendeau, age 89, formerly of Rolling Meadows, IL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Winchester Nursing Home in Libertyville, IL.  He spent his entire career as a sales professional, primarily in the fields of communications, insurance and real estate.

He was the husband of the late Lillian Dolores Riendeau (nee Rompala), whom he married on June 26, 1954.  They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary a few months before her passing on November 8, 2004. Their marriage was blessed with five sons and eight grandchildren.  His sons are Russell (Cheryl), Wayne (Diane), Greg, Claude (Leslie), and Gary (Melody).  His grandchildren are Danielle (Stephen), Grant, Tim (Kaylena), Ben, Nick, Elise, Justin and Jake. Ken was preceded in death by his wife Lillian and his parents, George and Helen (nee Jagodzinski).  Ken is survived by his brother, Jack (Phyllis).

Ken was born in Chicago, and he served his country in the Korean War.  Ken was also a volunteer for a variety of various civic and volunteer charitable activities, and he was a member and volunteer of St. Colette Church in Rolling Meadows for over 40 years.   Ken was a diehard sports fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Blackhawks virtually his entire life.  Ken loved playing goalie as the ‘6th man’ in many street hockey games with his five boys, and was a constant presence at his sons’ numerous sporting events over many years.

Visitation will be held on Thursday morning, September 22, from 9 am to 11 am at the old church building at St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 22333 W. Erhart Road, Mundelein, IL 60060, which is near the corner of Fremont Center Road and Gilmer Road.
