Bernard J. Ruzga

Bernard J. Ruzga (Bernie, Bob), 86, a resident of Grayslake, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2016, surrounded by his family.  He was born December 9, 1929 in Gary, IN to Anthony and Petronella (Adomaitis) Ruzga. Bernie was a member of St. Mary of Annunciation in Mundelein, the Waukegan Moose Club and MooseHeart volunteer, Junior Achievement, the CB Club, Senior Vista Health, Ambassador Club, Waukegan Moose Golden Antlers, and the Boy Scouts.  He was extremely proud of helping 4 sons attain the rank of Eagle Scout.  He also served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and worked on early space programs at Cape Canaveral, FL.  Bernie completed his engineering degree at Purdue University and spent his career with packaging companies.  Upon his retirement, he and Ann toured the western US, Canada, and Europe, and created photo albums for everyone to enjoy the adventures.  Bernie kept his children and grandchildren in his heart and always advised them to “be good, be careful”.  We wish to express our thanks to the Condell Hospital and staff, as well as Dr. Slivnick, Dr. Roden, and all the medical personnel for caring for Bernie.  He is survived by his children Bob (Deb) Ruzga, Mike (Lisa) Ruzga, Richard (Linda) Ruzga, Tina (Bryan) Lightfoot, and Dennis Ruzga; his grandchildren Ashley (Garret) Wright, David (Michelle) Ruzga, Brad, Anna Kate, Marissa, Danielle, Kayleigh, and Melanie.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Ann earlier in the year, his son Tom Ruzga, and his brother Albert Ruzga.  A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, December 1, 2016 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Strang’s Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Elaine M. Cholewa

Elaine M. Cholewa, 90, a resident of Grayslake, passed away Friday, November 25, 2016 at her home.  She was born March 19, 1926 in Chicago, IL to Henry and Viola Wos.  Elaine is survived by her children Joseph C. Cholewa Jr. and Bonnie Cholewa, her siblings Lawrence (Nancy) Wos and Yvonne (James) Palermo, and her niece Jacquelyn.  She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph C. Cholewa Sr., her son Glenn Michael Cholewa, her parents, and her step-father Bertram Kendall.  A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, November 30, 2016 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Floyd A. Norris

Floyd A. Norris, 89, a resident of Wildwood, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2016 at his home.  He was born September 21, 1927 in Kenneth, MN to Merle and Lizzie Norris.  A graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 10am at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery 33100 N. Laura Ann Nesti Sulzer

Laura Ann Nesti Sulzer, age 56, of Grayslake passed on Friday November 25, following a stirring fight with illness. The daughter of Sergio and Iola Nesti, the sister of Rita Nesti, she lived with grace and dignity. The mother of Benjamin (19) and Dylan (17), the spouse of Glenn, she loved with fierce passion, humor, and song. Hers was a spirit that will long be sustained in the hearts and memories of her immediate family (Carla Rivera  (Raul), Teri Hermes  (Bill), Martha Fountain (John), and Sergio Nesti (Patricia)), her extended family, and her legion of friends. Dolores “Lori” Gilberts

Dolores “Lori” Gilberts, 89, a resident of Gurnee, IL, passed away Friday, November 18, 2016 at Brookdale in Vernon Hills, IL.  She was born January 6, 1927 in Chicago, IL.  Lori was a member of the Gurnee Womens Club and had worked as an administrative assistant.  Lori is survived by her nephews Don (Maureen) Hofert, Kenneth (Suzanne) Hofert, and Glenn (Anne Claussen) Hofert, her great-nieces and great-nephews Kimberly (Nathan) Hodel, Jim (Becky) Hofert, and Brent Hofert, and her great-great-niece and great-great-nephew Riley and Miller Hodel.  She was preceded in death by her husband Ronald “Gil” and her brother Alvin “Bud” Hofert.  A visitation and funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, November 22, 2016 from 9:30am until 10:30am with a funeral service commencing at 10:30am at the Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Angel L. Melendez

ANGEL L. MELENDEZ  64, United States Marine Corp Veteran of Zion, IL passed away on November 11, 2016. Angel was born to Felix and Ana (Alvarez) Melendez of Waukegan on December 20, 1951 in Vega Baja, PR, was one of 10 children. Was a lifelong resident of Lake County.  Attended Maryville Academy in Des Plaines IL and continued his education at Waukegan Township High School where he graduated in 1969. He entered the military in 1970, where he served 2 years in the United States Marine Corp, and received an honorable discharge. He continued his service as a member of the Marine Corp Reserves for 4 years. He was employed by the Veterans Administration of North Chicago and the Ann Kiley Center. His accomplishments; VA Performance Award, Certificate of Nomination of the American Legion, was an AMVETS Life Member and received many other accolades.  Angel was a loving, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother and uncle. He lived a full life, enjoyed his motorcycle, his dog Minnie and working out at the VA. He loved God, his family, and listening to the oldies.  He was a loving warm kind hearted person with a big heart. Angel is survived by, his Wife; Anna Maria (Nieves) Melendez, Daughters; Hilda Quinonez (Jesse d.), Annette, Sons; Michael and Gabriel Graham, grandchildren; Lisette, Jesse, Yvette and Julian Quinones, Taylor, Avery, Emma, Kendall, and Elliott Graham, great grandchildren; Devine, Arian, baby Jesse III,  His Mother; Ana, Siblings; Carmen, Santo (Mary), Freddy (Julie), Rose Staben (Milton d.), Ada, and numerous nieces, nephews and several greats.  Angel is preceded in death by his father Felix, brothers Isaac and Eladeo, sisters Porfiria and Martha.  A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, November 18, 2016 at New Way of Life Church 1225 S. Marion W. Lewis

Marion W. Lewis, age 89, a resident of Round Lake passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He was born in Swan Creek, IL to William and Cecil (Mayfield) Lewis. He was a long-time public school teacher. He is survived by his wife Mildred E. (nee Shipman), his children, and grandchildren

Brian Wayne Hamm

Brian Wayne Hamm, age 48, of Mundelein passed away Friday, November 4, 2016 at his home.  He was born March 8, 1968 in DuPage County to Robert and Donna Hamm. Brian was a successful civil engineer for over 15 years.  He loved Chicago sports, his favorite teams being the Cubs and Bears.  When at home he enjoyed watching movies and playing video games with his children.  He also loved spending time with his two dogs, Cookie and Muffy.  Brian is survived by his mother and father, Donna Hamm and Robert Hamm of Fox Lake and his children, Ericka Hamm and Marina Hamm of Hainesville.  He was preceded in death by his brother Scott Hamm.  In his memory, a luncheon will be held at Oregano’s 119 W. Diane C. Hansen

Diane C. Hansen, 74, a resident of Grayslake, IL passed away Friday, November 4, 2016, in Libertyville, IL.  She was born July 25, 1942 in Chicago, IL to Frank and Dorothy Messineo.  Diane enjoyed gambling at the Lady Luck Casino in Marquette, IA and spending time with her grandkids.  Diane is survived by her husband of 55 years, Daniel, her children Catherine (Michael) Huppert of Lake in the Hills, IL, Daniel Jr. (Jodi) Hansen of Wausau, WI, and Cynthia Miller of Somerset, KY, her grandchildren Matthew Huppert, Madison, Dayton, and Lexi Hansen, and Kyle and Zachary Miller, her sisters-in-law Linda and Jan, and many dear friends and other family members.  A special thank you to her doctors Dr. Mehta and Dr. Nho for their kindness and wonderful treatment.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Joseph and Ronald.  A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, November 9, 2016 from 3:00pm until 7:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Dawn Marie Kaad

Dawn Marie (Hathaway) Kaad of Wheaton, IL passed away early Wednesday, November 2nd.  She died knowing the fact that the Cubs were about to win the World Series that night and having full faith that Hillary Clinton was going to be the first female president of the United States on Nov 8th.  She was known for loving whole heartedly and accepting and embracing everyone she’d meet into her life. She had a great love for the holidays and bringing her family together. 

Her family and friends meant the world to her.  Her husband of 49 years, James Kaad, her children Chris Kaad, Amy (Kevin) Wagner , and Stacy (Chris) Hoffmann, and her beloved friend Jan will miss her presence dearly.  Her grandchildren Nick, Ryan, Jack, Cate, Ella, Madeline, and Emily made her so proud. They all know how lucky they were to be loved by her.  She is survived by her mother, Micki Kampf, her brother Rick (Nancy) Hathaway, Casey (Kim) Hathaway, Audrey Davis, and brother-in-law, John (Mary) Kaad, her nieces and nephews and all of the Wheaton “adopted grandchildren” she loved along the way.  She is preceded in death by her father, Buell Hathaway and stepmother Edith, and her father and mother-in-law, George and Catherine Kaad.

Maria Wieser

Maria Wieser, age 87, of Lincolnshire, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.  She was born on January 5, 1929 in Austria. Maria loved to bake and cook.  She enjoyed herb, vegetable, and flower gardens.  She also liked to read, play cards, knit and crochet.  Maria is survived by her sons, Joseph (Nancy) of Lake Villa and Robert (Marianne) of Johnsburg; her grandchildren, Robin of Round Lake, Christopher (Jennifer) of Bricelyn, MN, Paul (Elaine) of Albert Lea, Kevin of Kenosha, WI, Erica (Frank) Krucek of Johnsburg, Alan (Sarah) of Round Lake and Jeff of Wrigleyville; great-grandchildren, Joseph, Hunter, Devin, Katelyn, Zachary, Thomas, Ashleigh, Arik, Samantha and Alexis;  one sister, Mitzi of Austria; and one daughter-in-law, Sharon.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alois, one son, Louis and one grandson, James.  Friends of the family may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., followed by an 8:00 p.m. funeral service on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 East Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030. Phyllis Robison

Phyllis Robison, 89, of Waukegan, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 19, 2016.  The daughter of Elizabeth and Arthur “Red” Tindale, she was preceded in death by her husband Carl and all of her siblings: Kenneth (Betty) Tindale, Audrey (Tim) Counihan, Diane (Howie Mordhorst), and Cheryl (the late wife of Jack McLellan); and her brother-in-law John (Norma) Robison.  She is survived by her children Patty (John) Idstein, Dan (Nancy) Robison, and Beth Zaloum.  She greatly loved her grandchildren: “The Grosvenor Boys” Ed (Justine), Dale, Brad (Lindsay) and Brian (Leeza); Becky and Molly Robison; Patrick, Kirstin, and Sean Zaloum; and her many great-grandchildren.  She also leaves behind her sister-in-law Joan Robison and a large group of nieces and nephews whom she loved, and who remain very close as a family.  A private celebration of life service will be held at a later date.  Arrangements were entrusted to Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium www.strangfuneral.org. 

Marilyn L. Roberts

Marilyn L. Roberts, 71, a resident of Lake Villa, IL since 1994 and formerly of Hopewell Junction, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2016 at Advocate Condell Medical Center.
Born in Passaic, NJ on June 22, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Louis Rehm and Elizabeth Aubel Weber.  Marilyn was a highly respected registered nurse since 1975. She had worked at Advocate Condell Medical Center.  Prior to moving to Illinois, she had worked at Somers Manor and Kent Nursing Homes, and Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was a talented quilter and she loved traveling to Florida and New York to visit with family and friends.  A very kind and giving woman, Marilyn touched an amazing amount of lives.
On November 15, 1975, Marilyn married Allan Roberts who survives at home. She is also survived by her daughters, Dawn Roberts of Lake Villa, IL, and Sandra Roberts of Stormville; and her grandchildren who she loved spending time with, Tyler, Claire, Angelina and Vincent.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 10am to 12pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be at 12pm followed by interment in Hopewell Cemetery. A Memorial Service will also be held at the Advocate Condell Chapel on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. Please enter the hospital via the new west tower.

David W. Barnes

David W. Barnes, 57, a resident of Lake Villa, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2016 at his home.  He was born November, 11, 1958 in Chicago, IL to David and Sonja Barnes.  David was an avid guitar player and loved music.  David is survived by his wife of 32 years, Donna, his parents David and Sonja Barnes, his children Melissa and Cameron, his mother-in-law Irene Muellner, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, and good friends Rich and Joe.  He was preceded in death by his father-in-law John F. Patricia O. Kokum

Patricia O. Kokum, 86 passed away Friday, October 21st at her home in Libertyville, IL.

Patricia was born April 4, 1930 to John and Katherine O’Leary. She loved singing in the choir, gardening, and spending time with her large family. She was a long standing volunteer at Advocate Condell Hospital and an active member of St. Joseph’s Church in Libertyville.  When her body was strong, she also selflessly gave her time to the local shelters and soup kitchens. Her devotion and passion was family and making wonderful memories.  She enjoyed countless family vacations (Kokumfest) from all over the country including Florida, Michigan, Lake of the Ozarks, Disney, Lake Geneva, and Myrtle Beach. You could hardly ever find her without licorice, caramels, gummies, or a bear claw near by.  Pat was the true definition of a fighter as she bravely and courageously fought cancer for over 27 years.  She was a wonderful and beautiful person who will be missed by many.

She is survived by her loving husband John of whom she was married and devoted to for 64 years. A loving mother to her sons Robert Kokum (Nancy Jones), Bill (Debbie) Kokum, John Kokum Jr. (Jongo Yuk) and Daughters Jeanne Mulcahy, Julie (Gerry) Weidner, and Christine (David) Shamrock. She was the best grandma in the world to her 15 grandchildren Sara (Cara) Wilk, Erin Mulcahy, Kristin Mulcahy, Amanda (Angel) Arzet, Will Kokum, Grace (A.J.) Kegg, Tom Kokum, Trevor Weidner (Fiancé Elizabeth Russeau), Emily Kokum, Lauren Kokum, D.J. Shamrock, Madison Beebe, Zane Val, Mackenzie Beebe, and Liam Shamrock. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Barbara (Edward) Linski, brother-in-law Leonard Graf, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Peggy (Hiram) Hanson, sister Jaqueline Graf,  brother Jack (Kathleen) O’Leary, and daughter-in-law Janet Kokum.  A memorial visitation and mass is scheduled for Friday, October 28, 2016 from 9:30am until 11:00am with a mass commencing at 11:00am at St. Joseph Catholic Church 121 E. Keith K. Korell II

Keith Kendrick Korell II, better known as “Rick”, passed away on Tuesday October 18th after a long struggle with juvenile diabetes.  Rick was born on October 31, 1944 to Keith Korell and Jean (Hollinshead) Korell in McCook Nebraska.  The family moved to Grayslake, IL when he was 5, where he lived until earning his Bachelor’s at Southern Illinois University and then his Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology at Indiana University Bloomington.

            He moved to Sterling, IL in 1972, where he spent his professional life working with kids as a speech and hearing pathologist.  He had a passion for the music of Elvis and his interests included guitar, singing, and classic cars.  Rick was a kind and gentle man who received immense happiness from spending time with his family.  He is survived by his mother Jean, his loving wife of 50 years Carolyn, two children Michael (Amber) and Monica (Steve), brother Michael (John), sister Sylvia (Ray) and nephews Chris and Austin.  A gathering to celebrate Rick’s life will be announced in the coming months.

Lynn M. Pfeifer

Lynn M. Pfeifer, 64, a resident of Round Lake Beach, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2016 in Lake Forest, IL.  She was born December 8, 1951 in Chicago to Henry and Carol Pfeifer.  Lynn was a beloved teacher at Beach Elementary School in Round Lake Beach for 39 years.  Lynn touched lives of many as friend, educator, avid Cubs fan, and world traveler.  Lynn is survived by her sister Dawn Pfeifer, her boyfriend Dan Mischel, her nephew Julian Pecoraro, her sister-in-law Mary Massari, and her best friend Mary Baker. Howard L. Herber

Howard L. Dorothy I. Lindh-White

Dorothy I. Lindh-White, 93, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away October 13, 2016 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL.  She was born March 22, 1923 in Chicago, IL.  Dorothy was a member of St. Gilbert Catholic Church and was a member of the St. Gilbert Choir for over 50 years.  She was also a member of the Gurnee Viking Singers.  Dorothy is survived by her children Dorothy A.(the late Robert) Pinneo, Diana M. (the late John) Michalek, Robert J. (Donna) Lindh, Jr., Penni S. (Phillip) Schimke, Lawrence J. (Sandy) Lindh, Mary E. (Pierce) Regnier, Frank J. (Christine) Lindh, Eric M. (Cindy) Lindh, 21 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husbands Robert J.
