Caren A. Ford

Caren A. Ford, 68, a resident of McHenry, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2017.  She was born February 3, 1949 in Waukegan, IL to Erhardt and Alice (nee: Biddick) William.  Caren was a Corvette fanatic.  Caren is survived by her children Patricia (Arthur) Schultz of Rockford, Sheila Vikre of McHenry, and Debra Ford of McHenry, her beloved grandchildren Richard, Aaron, Sami, C.J., Anthony, and Stephen, her great-grandchildren Jaxson and Jennifer, her brother Allen (Kathy) Mathiesen, and her friends Margaret and George Dukas, Tim and Patrice Evans, John and Frieda Hanson, and Gary and Jan Miller.  She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Ford, her brother Bill Mathiessen, her sister Brenda Robinson, and her parents.  A visitation is scheduled for Monday, October 30, 2017 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Sandra Jean Franzen

Sandra Jean Franzen, 60, a resident of Lake Villa, IL, passed away Sunday October 22, 2017 at Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan, IL.  She was born August 7, 1957 in Chicago, IL to Lawrence and Irene Chirchirillo.  Sandra is survived by her husband of 22 years, Terry Franzen, whom she wed on September 16, 1995 in Grayslake, IL, her daughters Rachael Franzen and Tarah Franzen, her step-children Nicholas Franzen and Aaron Franzen, her grandchildren Draegan Franzen, Lillian Franzen, and Sullivan Franzen, and her siblings Wayne (Jane) Chirchirillo, Jeffrie Chirchirillo, and Lynn (Bruce) Buschick.  She was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Irene Chirchirillo and her best friend Patricia Johnson.  A visitation and memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, November 11, 2017 from 12:00pm until 3:00pm with the memorial service commencing at 3:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Scott P. VandenBroek

Scott P. VandenBroek, 59, of Grayslake, died on October 15, 2017 with his family by his side.  He is survived by his wife Donna, daughter Alexandra of Tacoma, WA, brother Mark and family Aurelie, Max, Lala, and Victor of Sarasota, FL, nephew James Faircloth of Erwin, NC, cousins Lori, Troy, Braxton, Logan, and Tyler of Erwin, NC, several aunts and uncles from Donna’s family, and many family members in Holland.  Preceded in death by his parents Johanna and Antonius VandenBroek of Cleveland, OH.  Scott was a retired Major serving 23 years in the United States Army Aviation.  Awards include: Meritorious Service Medal (5th award), Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2nd award), Army Achievement Medal (2nd award), Korea Defense Service Medal, Army Superior Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal (2nd award), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd award), Master Army Aviator Badge, Master Aviation Badge, Parachutist Badge and Air Assault Badge.  One of Scott’s greatest joys was flying, he had great memories of all of his Army experiences and his most memorable was with the United States Army Parachute Team serving as the Team 6 leader for the aviation section.  After retiring from the Army Scott worked as a pilot with American Airlines; also, while on medical leave he worked part-time at ACE Hardware in Libertyville.  Scott was a Jeep enthusiast, Gold Wing enthusiast, and enjoyed many travels he and Donna have done over the years.  Scott was what a husband and father should be to the women in his life, his greatest joy were his girls: Donna, Alex, and Mallory the family dog.  A visitation is scheduled for Friday, October 20, 2017 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Karl S. Kane

Karl Sherman Kane, 57, a resident of Grayslake, IL passed away suddenly Monday, October 16, 2017 at his home.  He was born December 23, 1959 in Long Beach, CA to Jack and Denise (nee: Jackson) Kane.  Karl worked at Evanston Subaru.  He loved old movies, the TV show Star Trek, and loved to watch CNN and Fox News, but more than anything he loved his family.  Karl is survived by his wife of 26 years, Joanie, whom he wed on September 16, 1991, his son Kyle Kane of Grayslake, his father Jack (Ellen) Kane of Vancouver, WA, his brother Kent (Eliza Kiara) Kane of Hawaii, and his dog Kobi and his furry friends.  He will be missed by the entire SOWA family, friends, and coworkers.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Denise, his brother Kraig, and his son Kevin.  A visitation and memorial service is scheduled for Friday, October 20, 2017 from 10:30am until 11:30am, with the memorial service commencing at 11:30am at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Jacqueline M. Reckling

Jacqueline “Jackie” May Reckling, 88, a resident of Grayslake, IL passed away October 4, 2017 in Grayslake, IL.  She was born November 29, 1928 in Wilmette, IL.  Jackie was retired from work as an executive secretary.  Jackie is survived by her son Michael R. (the late Jaime L.) Reckling Sr., her step-daughter Margaret “Peggy” (Mike) Wargo, her grandchildren Michael R. Reckling Jr., Kyle W. Reckling, Haley M. Reckling, Jennifer Dollen, Christopher D. Reckling, Eric S. Reckling, Randi Wargo, and her great-grandchildren Zoey Dollen, Emily Reckling, and Daniel Reckling.  She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph T. Marie-Laure Koob

Marie-Laure “Mimi” Koob, 68, a resident of Ingleside, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at her home. She was born June 3, 1949 in Fontainebleau, France to John and Louise Dandino. Mimi worked for the Sterling Company for many years and most recently worked for Dr. William Dam in Ingleside, IL. Mimi leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 30 years, Patrick, her sons Kim (Kris) Aronson and Daniel Aronson, the father of her children Wayne Aronson, her beloved mother Louise Dandino, her brother Philippe (Natalie) Dandino, their children Christopher (Moira) Dandino, Jessica (Andrew) Garrison, and Gregory Dandino, her aunt Jacqueline Pomeroy, her cousin Patrick Masson, her best friend Shahnaz Hansen, her fur babies Buttercup and Eddie, and many loving relatives and friends. Mimi was a longtime resident of Ingleside, who loved to read, quilt, play games and have family dinners. Of all her accomplishments, Mimi’s greatest achievements have been in the lives of her boys. They were the light of her life, her heart and joy. Her creative mind, kind heart, and animated way of French speaking allowed her to make even a simple story sparkle. Her generous heart filled her home with love, fun, family, and friends. She leaves her children and family with the knowledge that they were truly loved. Her signature gift of love and joy, laughter and joking around will never be forgotten. She was preceded in death by her father. Carl Robert Peterson, Sr.

Mr. Peterson of Grayslake, Illinois passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017 at the age of 86. The son of the late Charles and Alice (Kotajarvi) Peterson was born August 22, 1931 in Calumet Township, Houghton County, Michigan. He was a member of United Protestant Church of Grayslake. Mr. Peterson was retired from the Frank G Hough Company (later known as International Harvester and Dresser) in Libertyville. Mr. Peterson was an active member of the church community and enjoyed traveling and camping with his family. He was known for his abilities to fix things around the house and he enjoyed working on cars, engines.

He was preceded in death by his wife Janice Peterson (Connolly) whom he married in 1969. He is survived by his children; Kathleen Baillargeon; Carl Peterson and Laura Choate (spouse); two grandchildren; Amber Baillargeon and Jessica Baillargeon, one brother and one sister; Alicemae Meyer and Charles Peterson and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by two brothers; Arthur Peterson and Raymond Peterson.

The family will be present on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the United Protestant Church of Grayslake located at 54 S Whitney St. to receive family and friends followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. At Mr. Peterson’s request cremation has taken place.

Harold J. Neeleman Jr.

Harold J. Neeleman Jr., 80, a resident of Wildwood, IL passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL.  He was born April 12, 1937 in Chicago, IL to Harold Sr. and Frances Neeleman.  Harold is survived by his children Ronald Neeleman of Spring Hill, FL, Russell (Wendy) Neeleman of Antioch, IL, and Dawn (Don) Winnick of Hudson, FL, his grandchildren Laura Mingione and Christine Neeleman, his great-grandchildren Evie Mingione and Steven Collins, his sister Yvonne Neeleman, and his fiancé Kay Walker.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert, and his grandson Russell Jr.  All funeral arrangements will be held privately and were entrusted to Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E. Robert T. Koehler

Robert T. Koehler, of Grayslake, passed away on September 26, 2017 at 74 years of age.  Robert was born in Dixon, IL the son of Albert and Loyola (Fitzpatrick) Koehler.  He graduated from Newman High School in Sterling, IL.  Robert went on to obtain an MBA from Loyola University in Chicago and had a long career working at Hollister in Libertyville.  Robert was a devout Catholic. He is survived by his wife, Sandra nee Adams of 46 years, they were married on August 21, 1971; daughter, Christina (Mike) Koehler-Gadawski; two sons, Michael (Tonnia) Koehler and William (Allison) Koehler, granddaughter Charlotte; grandson Landon; sister Kathy Manderscheid; nieces, Sarah (Chris) Irwin, Krista Koehler, Heather Vermette and Hillary (Joel) Morris; and nephews Jeff (Jennie) Manderscheid, Ted Koehler and Kurt Koehler.  Friends of the family may visit from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E. Janis M. Lecocq

Janis M. Infant Demaya Arielle Baxter was called to heaven on September 22, 2017. She was loved by so many especially by her parents, Alicia Davis and Devonte A. Dorothy ” Dee” J. Vlasak

Dorothy “Dee” J. Vlasak (nee: Stephens), 77, a resident of Grayslake, passed away peacefully with her family by her side Saturday, September 23, 2017.  She was born July 29, 1940 in Chicago, IL to George and Mary Stephens.  Dee was a past president of the Lake County Mothers of Twins Club and of the Woodland school PTA and was also active in the Wildwood Women’s club.  She was the best mom and grandma, volunteering as a room mother at Woodland school and as a den mother for her sons’ Cub Scout Pack 71, along with attending school and sports functions for her children and grandchildren.  Dee enjoyed crafting, sewing, playing the slot machines at the casinos and was an avid Bingo player.  She loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.  Dee is survived by her husband of 58 years, Floyd, her children Laura Lee (Henry) Tussing, Linda (Daniel) Bouma, Diane (Robert) Scheuber, Joseph (Kelly) Vlasak, John (Diane) Vlasak, and Sharon (Corey) Clark, her grandchildren Adam and Douglas Tussing; Kayla, Kasey, and Jessica Bouma; Michael and Christine Scheuber; Benjamin, Christopher, Matthew, and Anna Vlasak; Austin Clark; and her brother Glenn Stephens.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Betty Ann and Lester.  A visitation is scheduled for Friday September 29, 2017 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Strang Funeral Chapel and Crematorium 410 E. Cathryn L. Bormann

God smiled as he welcomed, Cathryn L. Bormann, 94, home.  Born in Parkridge, IL on June 29, 1923 the daughter of William and Anna O. Bormann.  After graduating from Park Ridge High School, Cathryn attended Ravenswood Hospital nursing school before enlisting the in the US Army.  As a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Medical Core she served as a nurse in the Pacific Islands until the end of World War II.  After her return she worked many years for Marshall Fields department stores where she became one of the first women to become floor department manager.  Cathryn lived most of her life in Park Ridge Chicago area but moved to Grayslake, IL after her retirement.  Cathryn loved adventuring in downtown Chicago, Christmas time at Marshall Fields, decorating her home and the Cubs.  She was a very talented artist with a passion for building miniature 1 inch scale doll houses and shadow boxes.  She enjoyed reading about the world, a good novel, needle point, photography, and was always ready to go antique shopping.  She enjoyed life to its fullest, her way!  Cathryn was devoted to her family and her very special Grayslake friends, especially Anita and Darlene.  She is survived by her nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by her beloved parents and three sisters Arlene, Marion and Patricia.  A private burial will be held at Town of Maine Cemetery in Park Ridge.  All funeral arrangements were entrusted to Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Agnes M. Poehler

Agnes Muirl Poehler, 95, formerly of Mundelein and Antioch, IL went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Friday, September 15, 2017 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Round Lake Beach, IL.  On June 13, 1922, a beautiful baby girl was born in a small house to Harry and Muirl Shimmin of Tryon, Nebraska.  Agnes spent her early childhood years in and around Tryon.  She also lived in Northern Wisconsin and Grayslake, IL before the family returned to Tryon.  She completed the 8th grade and discovered quilting at the age of 11, as well as canning vegetables and baking.  When she was almost 18 years old she moved to Illinois and found a job cleaning homes and worked for a couple of years when she met the love of her life, Walter Floyd “Fritz” Poehler.  They were married October 11, 1941 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Round Lake Beach.  He passed away November 20, 1977.  She has been a member and longtime volunteer of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church since 1941.  She taught many people how to can vegetables, make jam, bake and basic homemaking skills.  Agnes made the best doughnuts and baked goods and was best known for her beautiful quilts.  Two of her quilts hang in the Nebraska Historical Museum in Lincoln, NE.  She was devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.   Agnes is survived by her daughter Patricia (John) Fosdick; son Walter Thomas Poehler, son-in-law Edward Schroeder; half-sister, Dorothy; grandchildren Tracy (Collin) Bailey; Susan (Brian) Bako; John (Melanie) Poehler; Kathy Schroeder; great-grandchildren Nicholas, Nathaniel, Jayden, Ian, and Emma; great-great-grandson Adrian; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Muirl Shimmin; her husband Walter Poehler; her sisters Marian Simonsen and Mattie “Bee” Elizabeth Radke; brothers Allen and Roger Shimmin; and her daughter Elsie Marie Schroeder. Lewis R. Hoose

Lewis “Bud” R. Hoose, 69, a resident of Lake Villa, IL, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL.  He was born July 21, 1948 in Chicago, IL to Lewis and Elsa Hoose.  Bud was a veteran having served with the US Navy during Vietnam War.  He had retired from Oracle as Senior Project Manager.  Bud starred in “The Littlest Angel” in 1955 on WGN 🙂.  He served for the Boy Scouts of America for 35 years in various capacities and earned the Silver Beaver Award in 2006.  Bud is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia, his children Peter (Annie) Hoose, Nathan (Laura) Hoose, and Andrew (Jennifer) Hoose, his grandchildren Oliver and Juliette, and his siblings Harriet (Bob) Burns and Paul (Carolle) Hoose, and scouting family.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Ginger Miller.  A memorial visitation and service is scheduled for Saturday, September 30, 2017 from 1:00pm until 4:30pm with memorial service commencing at 4:30pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Freda L. Ratliff

Freda Lyvonne Ratliff, 75, a resident of Round Lake Beach, IL, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 9, 2017 in Libertyville, IL. She was born in Pike County, Kentucky on September 4, 1942, the daughter of the late Fred and Sarah Cox. She was married to Forrest Ratliff on December 24, 1959 to this marriage, two sons were born, Forrest G. Ratliff Jr of Salem, WI and Tim L. (Penny) Ratliff of Trevor, WI; seven grandchildren, Michele, Mickey, Derek, Jessica (who died at birth), Frankie, Sarah and Jon; and 1 great grandchild, Jackson. She is also survived by 2 brothers, Blake (Oda) Cox of Round Lake Beach and Gary Cox of Lake Villa, 7 nieces, 2 nephews, 3 sisters in law and 1 brother in law.
God and family were her top priorities and she felt like her grandchildren were special gifts from God. She was a member of Calvary Temple Christian Center for 47 years.

Herbert B. Lortz

Herbert B. Lortz, 84, a resident of Grayslake, passed away Monday, September 11, 2017 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL.  He was born March 4, 1933 in Chicago, IL to Bruno and Hedwig Lortz.  Herbert was an Indian Guide until he graduated from high school.  He served for the US Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of the Carpenter’s Union Local 250.  Herbert is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy, his children John (Linda) Lortz, Debbie (Ed) Kruk, Cathy Lortz, and Bob (Wendy) Lortz, his grandchildren Marilyn, Brian, Brad, Ann, Brittany, Sarah, Jason, Ryan, and Connor, and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Ruth Loose.  A visitation and funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, September 13, 2017 from 3:00pm until 7:00pm with the funeral service commencing at 7:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd. Stephen J. Sears

Stephen J. Sears, age 47, of Grayslake, passed away at his home on Friday, September 8, 2017 following a long, courageous battle with cancer.  He was born June 14, 1970 in Chicago to Gerald F. and Elizabeth (Jackson) Sears.  Stephen was passionate about his job at Midwestern Univeristy and proud that he helped students become health care professionals.  He loved the Sox, the Oakland Raiders, and was a Blackhawks fan. He was a huge Beatles and Marx Brothers fan, but, most of all, he loved and adored his family. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Victoria (nee: Heskin), whom he married on November 8, 1991 in Chicago; his parents; children, Christina (John) Franco of Connecticut and June of Connecticut; his grandchildren Rei and Aiden; his siblings, Gerald (Michelle) of Chicago, Kevin (Nicole) of Illinois, Delores (Jim) of Wisconsin; very special and loving friend, Tonya Jackson; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by many beloved family members.  Friends of the family may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E.
