Charlie Plescia

Charlie was born at Lake Forest Hospital and died in Round Lake Beach, IL. He was a character for sure, a fun-loving guy with a quick wit who was always fun to be around. He knew how too live for the moment. Charlie worked as a landscaper and more recently doing roofing. He was an outdoorsman, enjoying archery, canoeing, hiking, and working with his hands. He was a big bear of a man who was tough as nails, riding his bike all around Lake County regardless of the weather. Charlie could be very sensitive to others and was always willing to help a friend in a pinch. He was Brother Charlie, or Chuck, or Daryl.

Charlie is preceded in death by his grandparents: John and Mary Lorang, Vincent Plescia, and Jack and Anne Brinkerhoff. He will be sorely missed by his parents Perry and Julia Plescia, Grandma Lucille Plescia, brothers, John, Pete, and Michael, sisters Mariko, Jenny, and Ya Jing, along with their significant others, and many close aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. As well as his faithful dog Khama who put in many miles at his side.

Saul Hernandez Rios

Saul Hernandez Rios, 64, a resident of Round Lake Beach, IL passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, IL. He was born December 19, 1953 in Mexico to Francisco Hernandez Martinez and Aurora Rios. Saul loved to work and being outside close to nature. He loved corn, was a very social person, and most of all loved his family. Saul is survived by his wife of 38 years, Ofelia, whom he wed on December 8, 1979 in Mexico, his mother Aurora Rios, his father Francisco Hernandez Martinez, his children Soledad (Julio) Calderon of Round Lake, Mayra (Editomas) Rivas of Round Lake Heights, Ariana Hernandez of Round Lake, and Saul Hernandez of Round Lake, his 14 grandchildren, and his siblings Pire (Maria del Refuguio) Hernandez, Pedro (Maricela) Hernandez, Francisco (Leticia) Hernandez, Leonel (Maritza) Hernandez, Gloria (Hector) Mendoza, Hortencia Hernandez, Josefina (Juan) Puga, Isela (Rigoberto) Torrez, and Angelica (Rogelio) Lopez. He was preceded in death by his nephew Rogelio Lopez, and his grandsons Jesus Calderon and Juan Diego Calderon. James “Jim” K. Olson Sr.

James “Jim” K. Olson Sr.,age 77, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at his home. He was born January 23, 1941 in Chicago, IL to Henning and Ruth Olson.  Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carol, his children Julie (Bill) Klicka and James K. Olson Jr., his grandchildren Tyler, Maggie, and Jaimie Klicka and Garrett Olson, his siblings Richard (Tiffany) Olson and Sharon (Sergio) Pierluissi, his brother-in-law Ronald (Barbara) Staats, and his niece and nephews Cathy Blais, Rickie Olson, James Olson, and Steve Towers.  He was preceded in death by his parents.  A visitation is scheduled for Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E. Margaret Santori

Margaret Santori, age 88, of Huntley passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2018 in Gurnee. She was born December 1, 1929 in Chicago to Peter and Helen (Molski) Sempetrean. Margaret is survived by her husband, Leo whom she married 69 years ago on January 15, 1949; her children, Jim (Colleen) of North Mankato, MN, Nancy of Huntley, Sue of Grayslake, Cathi (Bob) of Chehalls, WA, Mary (Michael) of Grayslake, and Betsy (Jim) of Lindenhurst; grandchildren, Michael, Luke, Matt, Chandra, Emily, T.J., Magge, Katie, Samantha, Danielle, Dawud, Alex, Jenny and Betsy; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother Ron (Judy) of Libertyville. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Katie, and son-in-law, Vern. We all know how difficult it can be raising children, but Midge made it look like a stroll in the park. Not only her husband and children, but her grandchildren and great-grandchildren adore her to this day. We are blessed. Steven Robert Gnarro

 Steven Robert Gnarro, age 59, a resident of Ingleside, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2018 at his home.  He was born November 5, 1958 in Libertyville to Edward M. and Gloria (Schaffer) Gnarro.  Steven is survived by his mother, Gloria I. Velma M. Bobrick

Velma M. Bobrick, 80, a long time resident of Wildwood passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018 in Waukegan, IL. Velma was born on April 27, 1937 to Mabel Hoffmeyer in Palatine, Illinois. Velma was a member of Warren Township Senior Center where she loved to play bingo and socialize. Velma also loved to knit in her spare time, her famous knitted slippers were given to many friends and family throughout her years. She made a lasting impression on everyone she met, with her kind yet spunky personality. Velma religiously made sure the children of Woodland Schools were safely driven to and from school everyday as she was a school bus driver for 33 years. Velma is survived by her sisters Ethel (Darwin) Hallenbeck and Linda (Larry) Fox, her children William (Charla) Bobrick, Debra Hall and Kenneth (Susan) Bobrick, her grandchildren Jennifer (Robert) Kniskern, Kimberly (Benjamin) Davis, Adam Petlak, Brandi (David) Marienau, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Josephine “Josie” Grubb

Stevensville, MT – Josephine “Josie” Grubb, 99, of Stevensville, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2018 at The Living Centre.  Josie was born on June 6, 1918 in Chicago, IL to Wojchek “Albert” and Anntoinette (Skotnicki) Nykaza.  Josie was married to Joseph Burke in 1940. He died in 1944 in a truck accident. She then was married to Albert Edward Grubb in 1946. He died in 1964 when he accidently drowned while on vacation.  Josie enjoyed baking, crocheting, oil painting, the outdoors, fishing, camping, traveling and bingo. She had a great sense of humor and loved joking. She loved God and her church and loved her family very much.   In 2007 she moved to Montana to be with her daughter and then in 2009 moved into The Living Centre in Stevensville.  She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joseph Burke and Albert Grubb; a son, Albert A. Grubb; a son-in-law, Philip Catalano; great-grandson, Matthew Heiland; sisters, Louise Szaflarski, Mary Swiech, Helen Karpiel, Charlotte Hovorka; brother, John Nakaza. Survivors include her daughter, JoAnn Catalano of Stevensville, MT; grandson, Thomas (Kelly) Catalano of Gillette, WY; grandson, Russell Catalano of Missoula, MT; great-grandchildren, Meranda and Philip Catalano of Payson, UT and Kameron Catalano of Billings, MT; great-great-grandson, Kyden Catalano of Payson, UT.  Visitation/Vigil service will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2018 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. John Brandstetter

John Brandstetter, at rest December 27, 2017.  John was born in Waukegan on October 21, 1929 and was raised and spent most of his life in Grayslake.  He was a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran serving before and during the Korean War and was a Life Member of both The American Legion and The Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was the Quality Services Manager at Sara Lee Bakery retiring in 1996 after 30 years of service. He was our beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and nephew.  He was renowned for his sense of humor, his loyalty and his love of family, country, the Cubs and the U.S. Marine Corps.  A diehard Cubs fan his entire life he was so excited he lived long enough to see the Cubs win the World Series.  He made a lasting impression on all that were blessed to know him and he will be deeply missed.  He is survived by his wife Susan Nied; his children Leslie (Jim) Kaiser, Brian (Alisa) Brandstetter and Barbara Brandstetter; his grandchildren Nicholas (Christine) Read, Philip Read, Tyler (Samantha) Brandstetter and William Brandstetter; his great-grandchildren Kiana-Rae Read, Tyler Read, Allison Brandstetter, Andrew Keahey, AnnMarie Read and Vivienne Read; his sisters-in-law Jane Brandstetter, Theresa Brandstetter and Carol (Chris) Thompson; his nieces Cathy (Dave) Ott and Anna Kay (Randy) Kutz; his nephews Rob (April) Thompson and Ryan (Erin Wallace)Thompson; his great-nephews Bryan (Katherine) Ott, Connor Thompson and Kyle Thompson; his great-nieces Lauren (Stuart) Steenhoek and Lindsay Ott. Donna M. Powell

Donna Mae Powell, 78 of Grayslake passed away Sunday, January 7, 2018 in Libertyville, IL.  Donna was born on May 22, 1939 in Chicago, a daughter of Maynard and Ethel Stull Powell.   Donna attended Foreman High School in Chicago and graduated in 1957.  She had a long career in the publications industry doing graphic arts. Her talents in art lead her to a love for watercolor painting.  She painted beautiful pieces with numerous paintings entered in local art shows. This is a talent and craft she shared with her late sister Ellen.  Donna had a fine appreciation for antique furniture.  She loved cats and was an avid birder who enjoyed nature and spotting a special bird.  She supported the World Wildlife Federation and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.  A Cubs fan for years, she was thrilled when the Cubbies won the World Series.  Donna enjoyed reading and learning and the internet opened up a whole new way to discover.  She had an interest in her ancestry and was able to trace back many generations.  She was a social media user who enjoyed reconnecting with family and friends.  Donna was a strong woman with a good sense of humor, a fight to live and enjoy life. She will be missed.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Maynard Powell, Jr., and four sisters, Anne Yokem, Enid Johnson, Ellen Powell and Virginia Kvorka.  She is survived by many nieces and nephews.   Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Strang Funeral Home in Grayslake, IL.  Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. with a service at 2:00 p.m.

Carole Kathryn Koykkari

Carole Kathryn Koykarri, 81, a resident of Fox Lake, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2018, at her home. She was born in June of 1936 in Aurora to Earl and Ceclia Leighty.
Carole is survived by her children Ryan (Margaret) Pendergast of Antioch and Michael Pendergast of Tacoma, WA; her grandchildren Dan Pendergast of Trevor, WI, Kevin Pendergast of Lindenhurst, Kelly (Michael) Jandl of Racine, WI, Danielle Pendergast of Syracuse, NY and Michelle Pendergast of Annadale-on-Hudson, NY. She was preceded in death by her husband, Neil Koykkari; sister, Lois Bay; and her parents.

Julie Davidson

Robert F. Kuziel

Robert F. Kuziel, age 83, died peacefully while in hospice care at Resurrection Hospital on January on January 9, 2018.  He was the son of the late John and Mary Kuziel.  He was the devoted husband of the late Stella F. Linda J. O’Neill

Linda J. O’Neill, 69, a resident of Round Lake Beach, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2018 surrounded by her family at her home in Round Lake Beach, IL.  She was born May 28, 1948 in Kenosha, WI to Robert and Jean Burke.  Linda worked for American Fluorescent Corporation for 23 years.  She enjoyed swimming, bingo, and was a great baker and cook.  Linda loved spending time with her family, the outdoors, and fishing, especially in Northern Wisconsin.  Linda is survived by her children Lori O’Neill and Michael P. Nancy A. Bracher

Barry T. Adler

Barry Tore Adler, 71, a resident of Lindenhurst, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Condell Hospital in Libertyville, IL. He was born October 10, 1946 in Chicago to Stanley and Eleanore (Larson) Adler. He was a member of Crossway Community Church in Bristol, WI.
Barry is survived by his wife, Vicky, of 45 years. They were married on December 1, 1972 in Wheaton, IL. He is further survived by his daughter, Tara (Robert) Henevich of Fort Riley, KS; his sister, Laurie (Ken Minkowski) Adler of McHenry, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Robin Lynn Niemi

Robin Lynn Niemi, age 63, of Wauconda, passed away Monday, December 25, 2017 in Colorado Springs, CO. She was born November 16, 1954 in Limestone, ME. Robin graduated from Warren Township High School in 1972. She moved to California shortly after graduation to pursue her dream of being a singer. Although her group did cut one album and was the opening act for the Turtles, she went the conventional route and started a family. Robin loved staying in touch with her friends and family on facebook. She was a champion at puzzley words, spades and every kind of game ever invented. But, her greatest joy was her family. She loved spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and her beloved pooch, Odie. She was much loved by everyone who knew her. She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Len, whom she married in Long Grove on March 15, 1998; her children, Jessica Randall of Elgin, William Randall of Wauconda and Jessy (Matt) Tarquino of Colorado Springs, CO; her grandchildren, Sydney, Emma and Leona; and her siblings, Bruce Stone of Baltimore, MD, Mark Peters of California and Brett Peters of Waukegan. Anna D. Zarlenga

Anna D. Zarlenga, 86, a former resident of Fox Lake and most recently of Elk Grove Village, passed away Monday, January 8, 2018 at Avanti Wellness in Niles, IL.  She was born February 17, 1931 in Puerto Rico to Felipe and Juana Negron.  Anna was a very loving and giving person.  She was a member of the American Medical Association for over 25 years.  Anna was an avid gardener and will be remembered for caring for her pets and dedication and hard work in all she did.  She moved to Chicago from Puerto Rico in 1948 and married her husband John A. Zarlenga on July 8, 1961 in Springfield, IL.  Anna is survived by her daughters Connie M. (Milorad) Antich and Elizabeth M. Kilani, her grandchildren Heather A. Kilani and Michael R. Teresa Aubain

Teresa B. Aubain, 82, a resident of Round Lake, passed away Monday, January 8, 2018, at her home. She was born in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands on December 5, 1935.
Teresa is survived by her children Deborah (Kaj) Gotterup of Crosby, TX, Michael (Christine) Aubain of Houston, TX and Renee (Garland) Pugh of Round Lake, IL; her grandchildren Rohan (Jalissa) McKenzie of Wisconsin, Rashaun McKenzie of Round Lake, IL; Chanel Pugh of Iowa City, IA and Hannah Aubain of Houston, TX, and her great-grandchildren Ka’Maria McKenzie, Nevaeh McKenzie, Kya McKenzie, and Elijah McKenzie.
A visitation is scheduled for Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 1:00pm until 2:00pm with a funeral service commencing at 2:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd. Daniel F. Griffin III

Daniel F. Griffin III, 69, a resident of Volo, passed away Monday, January 08, 2018 at Journeycare Hospice in Barrington, IL.  He was born February 16, 1948 in Denver, CO to Daniel Jr. and June Griffin.  Daniel was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served for the US Army.  He loved the Beatles, working on computers, and movies.  Daniel is survived by his children, Justin (Tina) Griffin, Natalie (Tony) Adams, and Melissa (Colin) Gaffney, his grandchildren Ann, Connor, Logan, and Teagan, and his sisters Patricia Griffin and Katherine (Mark) Dennis.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Delcie Griffin. A memorial service will start promptly at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at The Chapel, 330 S. Old Rand Rd. Lake Zurich, IL 60047.  Following funeral services, all will be invited for fellowship and refreshments at The Chapel.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Daniel’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society.  Arrangements were entrusted to Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E.
