Marjorie Susan Bennett, age 76, of Fox Lake, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Centegra Hospital in McHenry. She was born in Chicago on May 21, 1942 to Creston and Ruth (Hill) Newell. She was a corporate travel manager during her lifetime. Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Debbie (Anthony) Ruscitti; her two grandchildren, Jennifer and Anthony; her brother Larry Newell of Billings, Montana; her cousins, nieces and nephews; and her three basset hounds that she adored. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Kenneth E. Bennett, whom she married in Chicago on November 25, 1961. Sophie T. Michno, 96, passed away on November 11, 2018. She was the beloved mother of Christina Ritter, Ronald Michno, and Ron’s wife, Pauline; grandmother to Jessica and Alissa Ritter and Pauline’s children, Elizabeth, Connie and Ray; sister of Joanne Boratyn; nephew, James Boratyn and Bernadette (Jimmy and Melissa Boratyn and Jackie Boratyn); nieces, Linda, Marilyn and Carol, and their three children Maureen, Gerald and Christine. Forever friend Kathy Paavilainen and her daughter Bridget were angels who looked over her for too many years to count! Sophie was born on Christmas Day in 1921 and loved to play Santa on her birthday every year. Her Christmas decorations brought her much joy. A devout Catholic, she attended church all of her life. She, along with her deceased husband, Emil, ran Michno’s Inn in Gages Lake for over a decade. Lawrence “Larry” R. Fox, 86, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away November 6, 2018 at his home. He was born January 25, 1932 in Waukegan to Lawrence and Mary Fox. Larry was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean War, earning the Combat Infantry Badge, United Nations Korea Medal, Nation Defense Service Medal, and Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars. He was a member of the Operators Union 150 and a member of St. Mary of Annunciation in Mundelein. Larry was a lifelong workaholic and enjoyed boating. He was a loving man who was well liked by everyone he knew. He was always willing to give a helping hand and will be terribly missed by all. Larry is survived by his children Lori (Lee) Jurka, Larry A. (Linda) Fox, and Brenda R. Fox, his grandchildren Brad (Kathy) Fox and Rob (Elizabeth) Fox, with a great-grandchild on the way. Rita Maria Denison
Rita Maria Denison, age 88, of Grayslake, passed away Monday, November 5, 2018 at Winchester House in Libertyville. She was born September 12, 1930 in the province of Cosenza, Calabria, Italy to Alberto and Francesca Cappano. The oldest of three girls, Rita grew up in the Italian countryside with her sisters, Eda and Emma. She met her husband, Malcolm, on a trip to England in 1957. They fell in love and married on March 29, 1958 without being able to speak each other’s language. Together they welcomed their only child, Maria, in 1959. Maria married Michael Kennedy and gave Rita three grandchildren, Marty (Andrea), Michelle (RJ), and Mandy (Charles). Rita had four great-grandchildren, Madelynn, Kiley, Lillyana, and Scarlett. Rita enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her great-grandchildren. She was known for her jokes and pranks. She would gladly reminisce about the mischief she had been a part of in her youth (usually she was the ringleader). Rita and Malcolm followed their daughter to the United States in 1987. Rita is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, and sisters. She will always be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. Michael Herman, 45, of Gurnee passed away on Friday, November 2, 2018 at his home. He was born on September 27, 1973 in Lake Forest, IL. He was a laborer for the Warren Township Highway Department. Jacquelin J. Schippers
Jacquelin J. Schippers (née Liautaud), 87, of Grayslake, Illinois, formerly of Northbrook, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home with her family at her side on November 3, 2018, fittingly on the feast of St. Martin de Porres; the Patron Saint of mixed race peoples. She was born April 17, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois, to John Numa and Ethel May Liautaud (née Johnson). She married the love of her life, David P. Schippers Jr. on April 19, 1952. David preceded her in death by thirty six days. Jackie graduated from St. Scholastica Catholic High School in 1949. As a lifelong learner, later in life, she received a Bachelor’s Degree with honors from Northeastern Illinois University . She published Happy Warm Yesterday’s dedicated to future generations. She devoted her life to her husband and family. Jackie, also known as Granny to all who knew her, gave the most incredible hugs. She loved hosting great big parties with family and friends. Granny cooked a mean batch of red beans and rice. Her New Orleans roots defined who she was and what she loved. She is survived by ten children, Kathleen Mavourneen (Michael Batka), David Phillip III (Pat Connor), Antoinette (Tiyi) (David Bunce), Ann Lyons Winter (Robert), Colleen Margolis (Louis), Honorable Thomas More (Carol), Kevin (Elizabeth), Dr. Mary Angela (Mimi) (Robert Scott Bullock and Marc Pagani), Patrick (Trisha), and Peter (Dr. Laura Taylor). She is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. One great grandchild preceded her in death. Muriel M. Martin, age 74, of Grayslake, passed away Monday, October 22, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston. She was born January 18, 1944 in Fall River, MA. Muriel was a member of St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church. She was a retired teacher who had taught at Lake Shore Catholic Academy. Muriel was an avid, passionate educator in the Catholic school system of the Archdiocese of Chicago for more than two decades. She loved to garden and read in her spare time. Richard A. Novak, age 83, resident of Madrona Village, Round Lake, IL, passed away October 8, 2018 in Advocate Condell Hospital, Libertyville. He was an only child, born August 14, 1935 at Oak Park Hospital to Anton and Josephine Novak. It was a life filled with laughter, love, varied interests, challenges, sprinkled with bouts of stubbornness and courage of his convictions. He was a man with many interests and talents. He golfed, played volleyball, racquetball, and softball, traveled and played in numerous bowling leagues with his father throughout the years. He, family and friends enjoyed many weekends boating and fishing on Lake Geneva. He served stateside in the military during the time of the Korean conflict and was an active member of American Legion Post 626 in Hillside. He is survived by his wife, Judi of 35 years, two daughters Lisa (Brad) Sampson, and Alison (Steve) Wesolek. His extended blended family includes grandchildren Brittney (AJ), Branden (Krystal) Matthew (Cindi), Steven (Crista), Jason along with great grandchildren, Chase, Cayden, Evie, Josh, and the newest member, Josie, born on his birthday this year. Preceding him in death were his parents and extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. A private Celebration of Life Memorial was held Oct 12. Rosalind M. Schmies (Hess) was born on August 25, 1926 in Milwaukee, WI. Beloved daughter of Harry and Eva Hess, loving sister of Daniel Hess and wife of William W. Schmies passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 surrounded by love. Rosalind is survived by her loving children, Cynthia Holm (Bob), Lynda Turney (Dee), Karla Donohue (Michael) and Sarah Gerdes (Neal); her twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Rosalind attended the University of California, Berkeley for one year prior to returning home, meeting William Schmies and raising a family together in Des Plaines, IL for the majority of their lives. Rosalind was a selfless, loving mother who loved to travel, garden and cook, always putting her family first. She was a nurturing soul who greatly enriched all of the lives that she touched and will be missed greatly.
