Dale R. Webster

Dale R. Webster, age 67, a resident of Round Lake Park, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Condell Hospital in Libertyville.  He was born on June 8, 1951 in Wellsboro, PA to Ransford and Mildred Webster. He served in the United States Army and retired from Baxter Health Care.  

He is survived by his children, Timothy Webster, Tracy (Joe) Nava, and Brandy (Juan) Ferreyra; grandchildren, Anthony Young, Nathan Young, Decoven Young, Tevaris Young, Ellie Young, Giana Webster, Jasmine Webster, Bryce Webster, Logan Webster, Ariel Ferreyra and Eragon Ferreyra; siblings, Daniel (Vernet) Webster and Dawn Webster.  He is preceded in death by his daughter, Nicole Young; and his parents, Mildred and Ransford Webster.

Dorothy E. Booton

Dorothy E. Booton, age 85, a resident of Round Lake Beach, passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 at her home.  She was born in Pennsylvania to Jacob and Hazel Newcomer.  She was a member of Indian Hill Bible Church.  She is survived by her daughters, Gail (Wayne) Gregory, Val Raica and Diane Webster; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Sally (Jim) Altman and Janet (Jed) Long.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Duane M. Booton; granddaughter, Nicole L. Young; and siblings, Naomi (Cliff) Garris, Florence (Ray) Franklin, Bob (Sandy) Newcomer and Bill (Leona) Newcomer.  A visitation and funeral service will be held at Indian Hill Bible Church, 36133 N. Lorraine J. Holm

Lorraine June Holm, age 93, a resident of Grayslake, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Hillcrest Retirement Village in Round Lake Beach. She was born on April 3, 1925 in Chicago.  She is survived by her three children, Donald (Renee) Holm of McHenry, Donna (Scott) Weigel of Tucson, AZ, and Roberta (David) Galla of Grayslake; her 11 grandchildren, Scotty (Esther) Wiegel, Cory Wiegel, Kelsey Holm, Damen (Mindy) Holm, Aarron (Marrisa) Holm, Brittany (Fadi) Ladaa, Matthew (Lisa) Holm, Nathaniel (Aseel) Holm, Robert III (Dawn) Holm, Dawn (John) Wais, and Debby (Ray) Listman; her 11 great-grandchildren, Sophia Wiegel, Levi Holm, Benjamin Holm, Emma Holm, Ellenore Holm, Netanya Ladaa, Matthew Holm Jr., Lucas Holm, Robert Holm IV, Hunter Wais, and Taylor Wais. Walter (Wladyslaw) Malanowski

Walter (Wladyslaw) T. Malanowski, age 71, a resident of Harvard passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 in Barrington.  He was born on June 19, 1947 in Poland and came to America in 1960.  He attended St. Gilbert’s Catholic School and Grayslake High School. Walter married Cheryl Kemplin  on June 1, 1970.  He started his own business, J.W. Concrete in the Summer 1972 and continued working until his death.  He enjoyed his family and friends and his farm life.  Walter survived by his wife, Cheryl; his daughter, JoAnn (nicknamed Bozo); his sons, Jason and Adam; his brothers, Chet (Merrylee), Lester (Bernel); his sister, Donna; grandchildren, Dalton and Samantha Davidson, and Sophia and Morgan Stewart; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Kazimierz and Sophie Malanowski; and brother, Rich Malanowski.  A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Joan Margaret Young

Joan Margaret Young, age 88, a resident of Burlington, Wis, passed away Monday, December 24, 2018.  She was born April 15, 1930 in Chicago, IL to Fred and Catherine Hodgkins. She was a member of Al-Anon.    

Joan is survived by her son, Dan (Dona) Young of Mundelein; her grandchildren, Aaron Young of Chicago, Dever (Tanya) Young of Poplar Grove, Geoff Young of Volo and Kristie Greenfield Young of Mundelein; and six great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her sons, Timothy and Steven Young; and brother, Robert (Margaret) Hodgkins. A visitation and funeral service are scheduled for Saturday, December 29, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 East Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030. Trevor Michael Dertz

Trevor Michael Dertz

1984-2018

“Of my friend, I can only say this: of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most human,” – Captain Kirk’s final message to Spock (Star Trek). On Saturday, December 15, 2018, Trevor M. Dertz died suddenly at the age of 34. Trevor was born on November 10, 1984 in Chicago, IL. The family moved to Grayslake, IL when Trevor was 8 years old. He graduated from Grayslake Community High School and Columbia College Chicago. Trevor had a brilliant mind and especially loved researching history, politics, computers, and music. If Trevor didn’t know an answer (which was rare), he would intensely research until he could tell you everything about the topic from start to finish. He also loved caring for the family dog Kobi, video and computer games, Star Trek, cooking, craft beer, and spending time with his friends in Chicago. Trevor will always be loved and treasured by his mother Mary Dertz King (Don), sister Chelsea, grandfather Norman Dertz, and many dear aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and loving friends. Trevor is now reunited with his devoted father, Michael, who passed in 2004. The family will be having a small, private service. Karen R. Hook

Karen R. Hook passed away on December 18, 2018 at Advocate Condell Medical Center.  She was born April 4, 1942 in Waukegan, IL to Delbert and Helen (Sloncen) Hook.  She was a long time resident of Grayslake, IL and a member of St Gilbert Catholic Church until moving to Antioch, IL where she was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Parish-St Peter Catholic Church.  Surviving are her sisters, DelRaye (Robert) Bonfanti and Mary Hook both of Antioch, IL.  Her nieces and nephews Gina (Randy)Kenyon of Woodstock, IL, Keith (Lora) Bonfanti of Tucson, AZ, Jeffrey (Trisha)Bonfanti of Long Grove, IL and Nicole (Darryl) McPherson of North Aurora, IL.  She is also survived by her great-nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. Karen worked at Hook’s Walgreen Agency in Grayslake, IL, Fojtik Pharmacy in Fox Lake, IL and Cole Pharmacy in Richmond, IL.  She served on the Avon Centre Cemetery Board and a member of the Grayslake Historical Society.

The family wishes to thank her caregivers, Lisa and Lynn for their excellent care and thestaff at Fresenius Dialysis Center-Antioch.

Rose M. Bauer

Rose Marie Bauer passed away on December 16, 2018 at Travanse Living Residence in Grayslake, IL.

She was born on February 8, 1919 in Fremont Center, IL, the daughter of Cora and William Diebold. After being united in marriage to Charles Sumner Bauer on September 19, 1939, Rose moved to Grayslake where she lived her adult life.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Charles; her parents; two brothers and a sister.

Surviving are her five children: Dolores  Haynes, Gurnee, IL; Pat (Herb) Eldean, Macatawa, MI; Kay (Don) Saffold, Golden, MO; Donald Bauer, SR, Lake Villa, IL; and Lori Neff, Lake Villa, IL; seven grandchildren: Erik (Hang) Bowman, Alabama; Kori (Doug) Rentz, Connecticut; Wade (Kris) Eldean, Michigan; AmieBauer, Chicago, IL; Donald Bauer, JR, California; Jenna Bauer, Chicago, IL; Kelsey Neff, Lake Villa, IL; and five great grandchildren: Ryan Eldean;, Hunter Bowman; Alexander, Ella, and Lachlan Rentz; two sisters: LaVerne Langston, Godrey, IL and Marion Grinnell, Lindenhurst, IL.

Rose was an active member of St. Gilbert’s Catholic Church in Grayslake for all of years in Grayslake.

She will be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother, finding great joy in being with her family.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 21, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 22333 W. Erhart Road, Mundelein with a Mass following at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will be held at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Mundelein.

Leona M. Spurling

Leona M. Spurling, age 72, of Gurnee passed away on December 10, 2018.  She is survived by her husband, John of 52 years, whom she married on July 16, 1966 in Waukegan.  She is further survived by her children, Julia Anderson of Waukegan, Kathleen (Jessie) Alford of Mountain Home, AR, and John Jacob Spurling of San Francisco, CA; grandchildren, Bianca Morales of Waukegan and James Anderson of Grayslake.  All services were held privately by family.  Any correspondence can be sent in care of the Spurling family to Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Ronald H. Lauing

Ronald H. Lauing, 82, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL.  He was born November 4, 1936 in Chicago, IL to Harold and Pearl Lauing.  Ron was an avid Cubs and Bears fan.  He enjoyed vacationing, driving, going to the casino, and visiting with friends at the local Grayslake diners.  Ron loved spending time with his family and dear friend Helen Timan, and was known as a social butterfly.  Ron is survived by his children Ronald (Rosemary) Lauing, Jean (Jack) Korman, Richard (the late Geraldine) Lauing, his grandchildren Kristen (Derek) Wainwright, Kathryn (Jeff) Beck, Ronald Lucas, Kari (Kevin) Curry, and Holly (Brian) Curry, his great-grandchildren Aidan, Liam, Zoey, Delaney, Everett, Rylee, Jayden, Dylan, Kacey, Mallory, Charlotte, and Brian Jr., and his sister Janice (Frank) Ptak.  He was preceded in death by his wife Rhea, his parents, his brother Jim Ziebell, and his granddaughter Michelle Lauing.  A visitation and funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, December 18, 2018 from 11:30am until 2:30pm with a funeral service commencing at 2:30pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Orey L. Bingle

Orey L. Bingle, age 92, a former resident of Round Lake Beach and Burlington, Wis, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2018, in Northbrook.  He was born August 6, 1926 in Newburgh, Indiana and grew up there.  Orey served in the US Army infantry from January 1945 until November 1946.  Later, in 1960, he began working at Frank G. Hough in Libertyville, where he was employed in the gear shop as a welder for 30 years until his retirement.  Orey is survived by his daughter, Pamela J. (John) Finch of Vernon Hills, son, Michael L. Bingle of Mundelein, daughter, Debra S. (Lyle) Wright of Trevor, WI, son, Scott B. Dorothy M. Rosene

Dorothy M. Rosene, 89, a resident of DeKalb, IL and former long time resident of Grayslake, passed away Friday, December 7, 2018 at Oak Crest in DeKalb, IL. She was born April 9, 1929 in Wausau, WI, to Fritz and Hilda Poeske. Dorothy was a former member of the Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church in Grayslake and a current member of Salem Lutheran Church in Sycamore. Dorothy is survived by her children Stephen Rosene of Shabbona, IL and Michael Rosene of Carbondale, IL, her grandchildren Pammela (John) Cooper of Soddy-Daisy, TN, Jonathan (Megan) Rosene of Blenheim, New Zealand, and Richard (Jen) Sweeney of Melissa, TX, and her 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers Wilbur Poeske and Alfred Poeske, her sister Margaret Poeske, and her husband George. Donald P. Abbinanti

Donald Phillip Abbinanti, 78, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away at his home in Grayslake on December 7, 2018. He was born on Dec. 4, 1940 in Waukegan, IL, son of the late Phillip and Annette Abbinanti. He attended elementary and high school in North Chicago. Don was an Evans Scholar at Northwestern University, receiving his degree in 1963. He married Carol Gillespie in 1966 in Waukegan. Shortly thereafter Don served his country as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service. He was employed by Abbott Laboratories in finance, retiring after a 25+-year career. Among his other pursuits, he enjoyed golf and traveling.
Don is survived by his wife Carol, son Jack (Julie) Abbinanti, daughter Cathy (Peter) Greenlaw and son Michael Abbinanti, grandsons Daniel and Dale Abbinanti, granddaughters Lily Abbinanti and Jessie Greenlaw, great-grandson Chase Abbinanti, sister Mary Hollinger, and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jeanie D. Wiles

Jeanie D. Wiles passed on Thursday, December 6, 2018. She was born in Lima, OH on February 5, 1961. She lived most of her adolescent life in northwest Ohio. She came from a large family which include her brothers, Robert (Amy) Mohler and Michael (Cindy) Derrow; sisters, Dawn (Michael) Schilling, Laura Mann, Ginger Dempsey, Debra (Michael) Baker, Vicky (Dave) Knoth, Jodi (Richard) Schaffner, and Sue (John) Timms. She graduated from Put-In-Bay High School in 1979. Her greatest joy was having children. Jessica Klamm was born in 1980 and James E. Dunn III in 1982. She also has 3 grandchildren, Jason Carpenter, Helene Klamm, and Aurelius Dunn.
Jeanine loved children and ran a very successful in-home day care on the naval base. She later worked as a personal secretary, computer operator, paralegal and real estate closer. She retired with her husband in 2007. She was married to Timothy P. Wiles for 31 wonderful years.
She opened her home on occasion to family and friends who needed a safe place to stay. She became a member of the Gift of Hope Donor Program through the State of Illinois. She believed in recycling and even in death she continues to help others. She will be missed by all the lives she touched.

William T. Giova

William T. Giova, 92, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2018 in Libertyville, IL.  He was born October 26, 1926 in Italy to Tony and Nina Giovacchini.  William was a World War II veteran having served with the US Navy from 1944 to 1946 aboard the USS Walter X. Young.  He was a member of St. Mary of Annunciation Church.  William is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary Anne, his children William A. (Karen) Giova, Gene Anne (John) Speckman, and Kimberly Lobitz, his grandchildren Matthew, Lauren, Carolyn, Robert, Jarrett, and Jackson, his 3 great-grandchildren, and his sister Lee (Enzo) Berti.  He was preceded in death by his son Marc, his brother Al, and his parents.  A visitation is scheduled for Sunday, December 9, 2018 from 2:00pm until 6:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Marilyn R. Shaver

Marilyn R. Shaver, age 64, a resident of Lindenhurst, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville after a three year battle with liver disease.  She was born October 12, 1954 in Waukegan to Murlin (Bud) and Loretta Marshall.  Marilyn was an aviation enthusiast, who, earlier in life, had earned hours towards getting her pilot’s license. She also loved to travel, especially her trips to Hawaii.  She is survived by her domestic partner of 22 years, Scott Corlett; her children, Adam (Meagan) Shaver of Johnsburg and Eric Shaver of Lindenhurst; her brothers, Les (Carmella) Marshall of Grayslake and Bruce (Marilyn) Marshall of Port Orange, FL; and her beloved dog child, Pogo.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Daniel Shaver.  A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, December 9, 2018 from 1:00pm until 4:00pm at Lakewood Grove Clubhouse, 1653 Amarias Drive, Round Lake, IL 60073.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association (http://www.alsa.org) in honor of Loretta Marshall, Marilyn’s mother, who was diagnosed with ALS/Lou Gehrig’s Disease.  Arrangements were entrusted to Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E. Beverly H. Hubbard

Beverly H. Hubbard, age 67, a long-time resident of Grayslake, passed away November 23, 2018 after a hard-fought battle against breast cancer. Bev demonstrated her kindness, loving spirit and bravery until the end.  As a devoted member of the Lake County community, Bev worked 30 years at the College of Lake County, retiring in 2014 from the Foundation Office, where she helped raise scholarship money for students. She was also active in the Exchange Club of Grayslake, The Lakes Region Watercolor Guild as Membership Chair, Chicago Calligraphy Collective as Vice President, and a Lake County Election Judge volunteer. Bev was a member of St. Gilbert Church in Grayslake.  Bev enjoyed taking day trips to hiking destinations with her husband, Kurt, kayaking on Grayslake where she lived for 41 years, and running her business—Calligraphy by Bev—in which she both penned and taught calligraphy and cursive writing.  Born July 8, 1951 in Chicago, IL, Bev is survived by her husband of 46 years Kurt L. Hubbard, daughters Jennifer Hubbard and Kate Hubbard (Brian Heath), sister Bonnie Hollifield, as well as many other family members. Bev is preceded in death by her parents Rudolph Bartell and Bernice Bartell (Schroeder).  A visitation/mass will be held in Bev’s honor on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the St. Gilbert Chapel, 301 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake at 10:00am until 11:00am with the mass starting at 11:00am. Immediately following, the family invites attendees to join them at a lunch/open house at The Vine restaurant in downtown Grayslake from 12:00pm – 3:00pm. Katherine A. Hill

Katherine A. Hill, 62, a resident of Round Lake Park, passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the Grove on the Lake in Zion, IL. She was born June 3, 1956 in Waukegan, IL to Kenneth and Jane Henning. Katherine is survived by her children Michelle Hill and Brian (Heather Vesler) Hill, her grandchildren Miranda, Brody, Gabrielle, and Annabelle, and her siblings Bill Henning, Vickie (Kevin) Spagnola, Daniel Henning, and Michael Henning. David L. Campbell

David L. Campbell, age 65, a resident of Round Lake, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, November 27, 2018. He was born on March, 5, 1953 to Julian and Josephine Campbell. Born in Chicago, he moved with his family to Mundelein when he was two years old. David graduated from Mundelein High School and attended the University of Illinois majoring in U.S. History and Physical Education. He was employed by Penray Company, Inc. in Wheeling as a purchasing agent for 42 years before recently retiring in July 2018. Dave loved to golf and he especially enjoyed his annual golf trip to Florida. He also spent a great deal of time fishing with his twin brother, Michael, right out his back door on Highland Lake plus their annual fishing trip to Canada. David is survived by his brother Michael of Palatine; sister Cheri (Ron) Marander of Spring Grove; stepmother Mary Campbell of Pleasant Prairie, WI; step-sister Georgina (David) Buckley of Lake Villa; step-brother Patrick (Linda) Rodriquez of Viroqua, WI; niece Melanie (Rodney) Miller of Spring Grove and children, Tristen and Chace; and niece Michelle (Jim) Hart of Libertyville and children Elaina, Quinten and Halie. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Ron, a step-brother Michael Rodriguez, and a step-sister Kathleen Pfister.
A visitation and funeral service are scheduled for Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 East Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030. Krista M. Hook

On Sunday, November 18, 2018, Krista M. Hook, daughter, sister, and aunt, passed away suddenly at the age of 31 years.
Krista was born December 18, 1986, in Lake Forest, Illinois and grew up in Lake Villa, Illinois. She attended Grayslake High School and studied psychology at the University of Iowa and Northeastern Illinois University.
Krista was endlessly giving, adventurous, caring and lived in the moment. She loved trying new food, practicing yoga, and improving her fitness and health. She was a firm supporter of equal rights, and cared about family above all else.
Krista will be forever remembered by her parents Lawrence and Diane Hook, by her grandmother Ann Hook, by her brothers Nate (Kristi) and Brian (Christina) Hook, by her nieces Becca and Cami, and by her boyfriend Ron Heslop. Krista will also be forever remembered by her numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and dear friends.
A visitation is scheduled for Saturday, November 24, 2018 from 10:00am until 2:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030.
