Muriel M. Martin, age 74, of Grayslake, passed away Monday, October 22, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston. She was born January 18, 1944 in Fall River, MA. Muriel was a member of St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church. She was a retired teacher who had taught at Lake Shore Catholic Academy. Muriel was an avid, passionate educator in the Catholic school system of the Archdiocese of Chicago for more than two decades. She loved to garden and read in her spare time. She is survived by her son, Cameron Martin; her granddaughter, Lorelei Martin; and her siblings, Al Bussiere, Theresa Noel, Jackie Gates, and Diane Leonardo. Richard A. Novak, age 83, resident of Madrona Village, Round Lake, IL, passed away October 8, 2018 in Advocate Condell Hospital, Libertyville. He was an only child, born August 14, 1935 at Oak Park Hospital to Anton and Josephine Novak. It was a life filled with laughter, love, varied interests, challenges, sprinkled with bouts of stubbornness and courage of his convictions. He was a man with many interests and talents. He golfed, played volleyball, racquetball, and softball, traveled and played in numerous bowling leagues with his father throughout the years. He, family and friends enjoyed many weekends boating and fishing on Lake Geneva. He served stateside in the military during the time of the Korean conflict and was an active member of American Legion Post 626 in Hillside. He is survived by his wife, Judi of 35 years, two daughters Lisa (Brad) Sampson, and Alison (Steve) Wesolek. His extended blended family includes grandchildren Brittney (AJ), Branden (Krystal) Matthew (Cindi), Steven (Crista), Jason along with great grandchildren, Chase, Cayden, Evie, Josh, and the newest member, Josie, born on his birthday this year. Preceding him in death were his parents and extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. A private Celebration of Life Memorial was held Oct 12. Rosalind M. Schmies
Rosalind M. Schmies (Hess) was born on August 25, 1926 in Milwaukee, WI. Beloved daughter of Harry and Eva Hess, loving sister of Daniel Hess and wife of William W. Schmies passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 surrounded by love. Rosalind is survived by her loving children, Cynthia Holm (Bob), Lynda Turney (Dee), Karla Donohue (Michael) and Sarah Gerdes (Neal); her twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Rosalind attended the University of California, Berkeley for one year prior to returning home, meeting William Schmies and raising a family together in Des Plaines, IL for the majority of their lives. Rosalind was a selfless, loving mother who loved to travel, garden and cook, always putting her family first. She was a nurturing soul who greatly enriched all of the lives that she touched and will be missed greatly. Thomas George Strang, 86, a lifelong resident of Grayslake, passed away October 12, 2018 at his home. He was born April 5, 1932 in Waukegan, IL to Harold and Gertrude (nee: Grandy) Strang. Tom faithfully served his country during the Korean War for the US Army, discharging in October of 1960. He retired from Anchor Coupling of Libertyville and helped with the family funeral home all of his life. Tom was a lifelong member of the Grayslake Historical Society and a member of the American Legion Post #659 for 64 years. He was an avid train enthusiast and known for his love of animals especially boxers. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Arden Babcox, and his brother David G. Strang. Tom is survived by several cousins, and the devoted staff at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium. Theresa E. (nee Lenzen) Dietz, age 90, a Fox Lake resident and west Lake County resident for all of her life, died on October 13, 2018. Michael B. Scholz, 73, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2018 at his home. He was born July 9, 1945 in Chicago to Bernard and Josephine Scholz. Michael was a Purple Heart Veteran having served for the US Army as a Sergeant during the Vietnam War. He was an avid Bears fan, volunteered at the Captain James A. Lovell VA Hospital, and loved telling stories. Sheryl Lynn Morrell (nee Smith), known by many as “Shar,” age 63 of Round Lake Beach, Illinois passed away Sunday, September 30, 2018. She was born May 11, 1955 in Wiesbaden, Germany to the late Robert and Mary Ann Smith. Sheryl was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend. Her hobbies included camping, fishing and drawing. She was always ready to have a good time and cherished time spent with her family and friends. She loved her fur babies Dusa and Angel as well as her grand-fur babies Lilah and Rex. Sheryl completed 25 years at Kmart Supercenter in Round Lake, Illinois where she met many of her closest friends. She spent many years as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader for Super Pack 199 (“Hey”) as well as a Girl Scout Leader. Sheryl is survived by sons JR and Douglas and her daughter Nancy (Jim); her grandchildren A.J. (Rachel), KayCey (John), Curtis (Rachel), Lauren, Shannon, and Logan; Great Grandchildren Lee, Adeleigh, Effie, and Colton; Siblings George (Laura), Richard (Becky), Debra (Tom), Susan, and sister in law Diane, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her mother Mary Ann, daughter Mindy, brother David, husband Alton Sr., father Robert, and son Charles. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.
