Josefina Arias Sanchez

Josefina Arias Sanchez, 102, passed away on August 6, 2020 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Josefina was a loving homemaker and devote Catholic that treasured spending time with family, kids, and friends. She was a wonderful cook that made delicious authentic Mexican cuisine. Josefina created beautifully detailed pulled thread (drawn fabric) and cross-stitch embroidery items. She also enjoyed making baby garments for her kids and grandkids, crocheting, gardening, singing, storytelling, and had a delightful sense of humor. She truly loved the performing arts and liked going to plays and dance productions. Josefina also enjoyed going to the cinemas and watching Spanish telenovelas. She lived a happy, rich, long life and will be missed dearly by all those that loved her. Josefina was a loving mother to Catalina (Cathy), Esther, Victor, Alfredo and Jose Sanchez, Maria Waryck, Concepcion Murillo, and Carolina Martinez. Josefina especially adored holding infants and she got her fill with 31 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 54 great-great-grandchildren. Josefina was preceded in death by her husband Lorenzo Sanchez, Juan Arias (father), Joaquina Garcia Arias (mother), Ramona (sister), and her son Rigoberto and daughter Maria Christina Sanchez.

Janet K. Hannan

Janet K. Hannan, 76, of Grayslake, passed away peacefully at her home August 6, 2020. She was born in August 1943 to Victor and Francis Marek Kosilla in Tarrytown, New York.  Janet attended Sleepy Hollow High School in Tarrytown, NY before meeting her husband, Donald C. Hannan, while they both worked for General Foods. They had three children Mark, Donald and David. She was active in their children’s schools and athletics while growing up in Ossining, New York and Freehold, New Jersey. As well as being an active member of her parish teaching religious education classes. She especially enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting and school events.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years Donald C. Hannan; their children, Mark (Kristin) Hannan of Grayslake, Donald R. Hannan of Grayslake and David (Sherry) Hannan of Grayslake; grandchildren, John, Michelle and James all of Grayslake; her sister Joanne Knapp of Moresville, NC and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by both of her parents, Victor and Francis Kosilla as well as her grandson, William Hannan and brother in law, Jon Knapp.

A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, August 11, 2020 from 10:00am until 11:00am  with a memorial service commencing at 11:00am at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030.    Interment will be held privately.  In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation.

Julian J. Cordova

Julian J. Cordova, age 68, a resident of Round Lake Beach passed away Sunday, August, 2, 2020 in Libertyville.  He was born April 20, 1952 in Cotiro, Michocan, Mexico.  Julian loved to dance, sing, and watch Cinema Dinamita.  He also liked soccer, Cruz Azul, and the Green Bay Packers, his favorite teams.  He enjoyed Burger King and McDonald’s and coffee, one of the many fast food favorites.  Julian is survived by his wife of 37 years, Rosa Maria Cordova; his children Julian “Junior” Cordova of Bakersfield, CA and Argelia (Samuel) Arroyo of Round Lake; his grandchildren, Monica, Israel, Briana, Jimena and Felecity; his siblings, Consuelo Cordova of Cotiro, Michocan, Mexico; Imelda Cordova, Edecina (Hugo) Cordova of Fox Lake, Juan (Luz Maria) Cordova of Cotiro, Michocan, Mexico and Ninfa (Rafael) Tellez.  He was preceded in death by his parents.  A visitation is scheduled for Sunday, August 9, 2020 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 East Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030.  The funeral service will be held at the funeral chapel on Monday, August 10, 2020 at 10:00am with interment following at Ascension Cemetery, 1920 Buckley Road in Libertyville.  For information, please call 847-223-8122 or visit www.strangfuneral.org.

Terrell C. Miyamoto

Terry C. Miyamoto, 87, a resident of Gurnee, IL, passed away Sunday August 2, 2020 at Bickford of Gurnee.  She was born June 11, 1933 in Walker, IA to Lloyd and Cora Bellach.  Terry was retired from Dynapar in Gurnee after a 25 year career.  She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Wadsworth, enjoyed gardening and her family.  Terry is survived by her children Lisa Montpas, Elaine (Steve) Griffin, Sean Higgins, and Kelly (Susan) Higgins, her grandchildren Michele (David) Griffin, Matthew (Amber) Montpas, Amy (Josh) Miller, David (Teal) Griffin, Holli (Patrick) Rein, Alex Higgins, Kylee Higgins, Robbie (Rachel) Higgins, and Krista Higgins, her great-grandchildren Kaycie Griffin, Aurora Griffin, Grace Montpas, Olivia Griffin, Avery Miller, Finley Miller, Valentine Rein, and Tyler Higgins, and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Curtis Higgins, her husband Robert Higgins, her second husband Frank Miyamoto, her 3 sisters and her 2 brothers.  A visitation and memorial service is scheduled for Thursday August 6, 2020 from 2pm until 4pm  with the memorial service commencing at 4pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Leonard J. Stang Jr.

Leonard “Len” J. Stang Jr., 50, a resident of Lake Villa, IL, passed away Monday, July 27, 2020 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL.  He was born December 19, 1969 in Shields Township, IL to Leonard Sr. and Anna Dora Stang.  Len enjoyed bicycling and was an avid Notre Dame fan.  Len is survived by his daughter Kathleen Stang, his siblings George (Kirk Nagel) Graham and Phil (Amy) Graham, his nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his extensive network of close friends that were always willing to help.  A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday August 8, 2020 at 2:00pm at St. Patrick Catholic Church 15000 Wadsworth Rd. Wadsworth, IL. The church is only allowing 75 guests for the memorial service. Nancy M. Strangaritch

Nancy Marie Strangaritch (née McWilliams) beloved wife of John Strangaritch passed away on July 28, 2020.  She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings as well as her first born, and only son Patrick Leroy Strangaritch on August 3, 2013.  In addition to her husband, John, Nancy is also survived by her three daughters: Carol Grandolfo, Joanne (Keith) Ramirez-Polifka and Katherine Strangaritch.  She is the proud Grandmother to Ryan Ramirez and Rachel Ramirez.

Harold C. Alvin

Harold Carl Alvin, Hal to his multitude of friends, passed from this earthly plane on July 26, 2020, at the age of 93 in Lindenhurst, Illinois. An Eagle Scout, his love of the outdoors was apparent from the start. After serving in WWII, he earned a degree in horticulture from the University of Illinois and put his knowledge to work managing a nursery. Hal took an active role in the Soil and Water Conservation Board, the Grayslake Community High School Board, and at the United Protestant Church in Grayslake. His hands built furniture, carved wood, hoisted sails, planted trees, and held the hand of his “best companion,” Nancy, for more than 66 years. Most knew him as a man who could boom with laughter, who would tackle any project, and who was always ready to help—a man of integrity and ingenuity.

Hal and Nancy took road trips across the country to explore parks and camp, and later to visit far-flung family and friends. In 2014, he had the privilege of participating in Honor Flight with WWII veterans. A devoted husband, treasured friend, and wonderful Dad, Hal was forever grateful for all his blessings.

He leaves his four children: Deb Pihl, Beth Anderson, Dan Alvin, and Jane School; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother Walter; and cousins, nieces, and nephews, who will all greatly miss him. Information on a Celebration of Life is forthcoming, but for now, in this time of a pandemic, please share your memories of Hal, honor him with a kind deed, and cherish your loved ones as he did.

Burial will be at Memory Gardens in Arlington Heights. Johnathon P. Moreno

Moreno, Johnathon Paul of Mundelein. John was born October 4, 1976 in Kansas City, MO to Mary V. (Hunter) Meyer. He passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2020 in Wauconda, IL. He liked alternative, heavy, and power metal music, surrealistic art, horror stories, and horror movies. John is survived by his mother, Mary (Hunter) Meyer, brother, Micheal Moreno, step sister Lauren (Meyer) Alexander, and step brother Ian Meyer.

Memorial will be held Sunday, August 16th at the Moraine Hills State Park, 1510 S. River Rd., McHenry, IL at the Pike Marsh Picnic Shelter between 1PM to 4PM. Service at 2PM.

Ricardo Bernardo Quinto

Ricardo Bernardo Quinto, age 72, passed away peacefully in Illinois at Condell Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family on Wednesday, July 15 2020. He was born on November 03,1947 in Manila Philippines, to Alejandro Quinto and Miguela Bernardo. Ricardo worked as a Telephone Cable Splicer/ Technician at Saudi Telecom, Saudi Arabia for 23 years. On August 14,1966 he married Consuelo Feliciano. Together they had four sons and five daughters.

Ricardo and Connie enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His interests and hobbies includes cooking, listening to music, shopping, playing cards, video chatting. Most of his favorite times were watching his grandchildren play, and eating out.

He is survived by his beloved wife Connie for 54 years; sons Anthony, Ricardo Jr (Sally,) Alejandro (Annalyn,) Edrick (Joan,); and daughters Mary Ann, Marivic (Rob,) Esthelyn (Arwin,) Marie Cris, Tricia (Golden) and 20 grandchildren; Charles Marwin, Ivan, Jay R, Michael Ryan, Tristan Kyle, Arkinne, Jhianne, Riley, Patrick John, Daniel Charles, Cedrick John, Nicole, Amber, Caitlin, Abigail, Isabella, Ashley, Allison, Alicia, Ava Grace and great grandchildren Isabella, Xyuan, and Samuel Liam.

Barbara A. McCorkle

Barbara Ann McCorkle, 82, a resident of Gurnee passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2020 in Libertyville.  She was born on June 12, 1938 in Decatur to William and Elsie (nee Kistler) Robinson. She married Owen McCorkle on August 21, 1960 in Decatur, they shared 52 years before his passing in January of 2013.   Barbara was an elementary school teacher, who taught first through sixth grade throughout her career.  Most of her teaching career was spent in the Decatur Public School system. She enjoyed scrapbooking, genealogy, traveling and especially taking trips with her sister to research their family history. She traveled the US and the world, first in a camping trailer and then tours and hotels. Her most special time was spent with her 5 grandchildren.

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Robin (Bruce) Aoki of Grayslake and Karen (Bill O’Rourke) of Bartlett; her grandchildren, Ryan, Allison, Kathleen, Paige and Will; and her sister, Carol Weatherford of Avon, Indiana.  She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Dorothy A. Vogel

Dorothy Ann Vogel, age 89, a lifelong resident of Grayslake, passed away peacefully at her son’s home on Monday, July 20, 2020. She was born on November 26, 1930 to Frank and Katherine (nee Schmidt) Hertel in Grayslake.  She graduated from Grayslake High School and worked for many years at the Grayslake Gelatin Company.  She belonged to St. Gilbert’s Leisure Club and Prime Timers.  She married Gerhart Vogel on August 12, 1950, they shared 57 years together before his passing in February of 2007.  Dorothy loved to bake and cook.  She was a kind hearted animal lover, whose top priority was spending time with her family. 

Dorothy is survived by her children, Donna (Bob) Lindh of Grayslake, Don of Oklahoma, Cindy (Mark) Stolz of Grayslake, and Rick (Sharon) of Grayslake; her grandchildren, Christi Lindh of Grayslake, Jason (Valerie) Lindh of Grayslake, Brian Vogel of Oklahoma, Tyler Vogel of Oklahoma, Sarah Stolz of Chicago, Lauren (Nick) Preston of Volo, Teagan Vogel of Grayslake, and Zack Vogel of Grayslake; her great grandchildren, Max, Samantha, Jaxon, and Leo; and her brother, Norman Hertel of Grayslake.  She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 sister, Marian; and 1 brother, Ralph.

Scott W. Harrington

Scott W. Harrington of Cape Coral, FL passed away on July 10, 2020 at the age of 62. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Stephany Christiansen-Harrington, and daughter, Meg M. Harrington. Scott is lovingly remembered by his sister Linda Harrington-Croft, cousin, Daryl Johnson, brother, Andy Tsengouras and family, Karen Pond, cousin, and many more. Scott was born on September 24th in Chicago to Edward and Marilyn Harrington. He had two siblings, Eddie Harrington and Linda Harrington-Croft. He graduated from Niles West High School in 1976. Soon after, he joined a new start-up company, Enterprise Services Inc (ESI) where he started his customer service and IT career.  Through this company he met many great friends and traveled to most states.  In 1989 he married his love, Stephany Christiansen.  In the 1990’s, this company was acquired by McKesson, where Scott moved up to management and led the customer service department for many years. In 2013, he joined CDW Inc., as a Configurations Supervisor. However, after a move, in 2016, to Cape Coral Florida, he joined 21st Century Oncology, where he worked as a level one Tech. Advisor. 

His pride and joy is his daughter, Megan and his love for Stephany.  Scott loved technology, music, scuba diving, cooking, charity and most of all people. He was a positive, warm person who loved everyone he met. There was hardly a person who did not love Scott upon meeting him. He was the life of the party and pushed people to try new things. He was active in the Exchange Club of Grayslake for many years, as well as helping at events through the Grayslake Lions Club and Cape Coral Irish Club. It was his dream to move and retire in Florida. He touched many lives through his 62 years and will continue to be lovingly remembered. 

There will be a virtual service in the coming weeks. Please watch social media or reach out to family for the date. A celebration of Scott’s life will be announced at a later date. 

Charles J. Kramer

Charles “Jerry” Kramer, 85, a resident of Round Lake, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at his home.  He was born March 25, 1935 in Chicago, IL to Arthur and Mary Kramer.  Jerry was a veteran having served with the US Air Force.  He worked at the Cook County Courthouse for many years.  Charles enjoyed bowling, was a die hard Cubs fan, and was well known for his sweet tooth especially Jolly Ranchers, jelly beans, and chocolate.  Jerry is survived by his daughters Debbie (James) Bruebach, Beth (Larry) Padilla, and Angie (David) Padilla, his grandchildren Monica Daletski, Jessica Daletski, Jamie Bruebach, Emma Bruebach, Avery Bruebach, Morgan Padilla, Jaden Padilla, Manuel Padilla, Madison Padilla, and Landen Padilla, his great-grandchildren Brody Padilla and Bentley Padilla, and his sister Fran Schatz.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Maureen Kramer, and his sister Elsie Mitchnick.   A memorial visitation and memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, July 25, 2020 at 1:00pm until 3:00pm with the memorial service commencing at 3:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Connie Henderson

Connie Henderson died peacefully on July 12th, 2020 in Chicago, IL.  She was 92 years young. Connie was born on February 17th, 1928 in Flint, MI to parents Forest and Norma Fournier.  She grew up in Sebewaing, MI and later attended Berea College in KY.  After marrying David Henderson, Connie worked in the medical and educational fields before turning her focus to homemaking.  In subsequent years, Connie gave freely of her time teaching others to knit, dance and appreciate the music of the Big Band era, where she loved showing off her encyclopedic knowledge of the American Songbook.  She was also an avid traveler, whitewater kayaker, beauty queen, teller of naughty jokes and the baker of the best sourdough bread on the planet. Throughout her life, Connie was blessed to have many devoted family members and friends.  She used to say this often; “There are friends, there is family, and then there are friends that become family.” Connie is survived by her son Scott Henderson of Grayslake, IL; his wife Susan Henderson; their children Tyler Waugh, Max Henderson and son in-law Al Carlson. She is preceded in death by her husband David Henderson; her son Michael Henderson; her brother Richard Fournier; her father Forest Fournier; her mother Norma Fournier and her brother Douglas Fournier.

Elizabeth Pulaski

Elizabeth “Bette” Pulaski, age 72, of Wadsworth, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at The Sheridan at Green Oaks.  She was born on April 26, 1948 to the late Anthony “Tony” and Violet (Kasper) Rukstales in Waukegan, Illinois.

Bette was a graduate of Waukegan High School and St. Francis School of Radiology in Evanston, Illinois.  She worked for more than 25 years at St. Therese Hospital as an X-ray technologist before later retiring from Lake Forest Hospital.

She was an animal lover who especially loved dogs.  Bette was also an avid Chicago sports fan who enjoyed watching the Bears, White Sox, and Chicago Bulls.  She often remarked that she felt closest to God while working in her yard where she kept rock gardens and explored her passion for flowers.

Bette is survived by her four children: William Pulaski, Jennifer (Karl) Lorenz, Matthew (Dawn) Pulaski and Christopher (Sondra) Pulaski; five grandchildren: Seanna, Ryan, Isabella, Mason and Jacob; her sister, Debbie (Gerrit) Milks and brother-in-law, Larry Bukantis.

In addition to her parents, Bette was preceded in death by her ex-husband, William David Pulaski and her beloved sisters: Vincenta Brown and Dorothy Bukantis.

A celebration of Bette’s life will take place from 1PM-4PM, with service to begin at 4PM, on Saturday, July 11, at Strang Funeral Home, 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL, 60030. Attendees are asked to wear a face mask, per current Covid-19 Illinois State Public Gathering Guidelines.

Remigio M. Payawal

Remigio M. Payawal, age 80, of Gurnee, passed away Saturday June 27, 2020 at 12:17am, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born July 4, 1939 in Sta. Ana, Pampanga, Philippines to Santiago and Catalina.  In 1973 he came to America and worked as an accountant until retirement in 2003.  He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Connie, whom he married on January 25, 1970 at Sta. Rita de Casia Phil-Am Life Parish, Quezon City, Philippines; his children, Paul (Judy), Allan (Mary Grace), Marjorie, Joseph (Liezl), John James (Alexa); his grandchildren, Jessica, Jaison, Ryan, Trinity, Brennan, Bethany, Calvin, Vanessa, Carson, Vivian, Adelyn, Everly, Otis; his brother Nicanor (Onita), and sisters, Concepcion, Victoria.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Felicidad and Rosita.  His life will be celebrated in memory of the love for his family and his happiness around them.   A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am on Friday, July 3, 2020 at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 6401 Gages Lake Road in Gurnee, IL 60031 followed by a visitation from 12:00pm until 3:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E. Susan Freda

Susan Freda (nee Schneider), age 86, a resident of Grayslake passed away on June 18, 2020.  She was born on November 4, 1933 to Henry and Anna Schneider in Chicago. 

Susan was a woman with a loving heart.  She was the cherished mother of Carolynn (James) Badger, Roger (Margaret) Richter, Gloria Richter, Jewel Richter, Randolph (Anita) Richter, Reynold (Jane) Richter, Raymond (Barbara) Richter, Ronald (Cherie) Richter; loving mother-in-law to Donna Richter; loving grandmother of 10 dear grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Carl Schneider and Leo Schneider; two husbands, Reynold Richter and Henry M. Freda; and two sons, Richmond Richter and Russell Richter.
