Ronald G. Baxley
Ronald G. Baxley was born in Plant City, Florida in 1932 to Dewey and Ollie Baxley and passed away at home in Grayslake, Illinois on May 10, 2021. He leaves behind his wife, Chorine, his sons Daniel Baxley and Andrew (Fiona) Baxley, his daughter Valerie (Eric) Powley, his grandchildren Braden, Kristen, Joe, Haley, Meghan, Jason and Matthew and great grandchildren Echo, Cooper, LeeRoy, Aurora and Maisley. He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Sandra, his parents, and many dear friends.
Ron went to the University of Florida and was a lifelong Gator fan. He served in Army Intelligence as a Cryptographer in Naples, Italy and was honorably discharged in 1956. Early in his radio broadcasting career, Ron was DJ “Mack Sanders,” a radio broadcaster with his own fan club who also held “record hops” for teenagers in many southern states including TX, LA, AL, GA and FL. Ron loved working in radio as a broadcaster, music director and station manager for many different radio stations in several states and also did play by play for the Atlanta Hawks basketball team and the Northwestern University Football team in Chicago. Eventually, Ron and his family moved to Illinois where the Satellite Music Network hired him as their “morning man” and he was heard on radio stations across the U.S. on the “Stardust” music format. That job moved him to Texas in 1990, and he continued working mornings as the network was bought by ABC and then Disney. While at ABC Radio he was able to take many great trips, including broadcasting live from Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World and taking several cruises with his listeners. Ron retired in June of 1998 and spent his days fishing, cheering for (or cursing at) the Gators, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Ron moved back to Illinois to be closer to family, settling in Grayslake with Chorine.
Ron’s memorial visitation will be held at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL on Saturday, June 5, 2021 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. Elderwerks is a fee-free not-for-profit organization helping families to find assisted living or any type of senior housing or elder care solutions. They helped our family sort through all of the options for Ron and recommended Transitions Hospice to us who treated our dad with excellent care, dignity and compassion. We are so happy to provide donations to Elderwerks so they can continue their amazing work to support families when they need it most.

Dustin Keefe
Dustin Keefe passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2021. He was born on January 22, 2004 to a loving family with two older brothers, Kyle and Trevor Keefe. He was on the Grayslake Colts tackle football team at a young age and learned endurance quickly. He played soccer with the AYSO, Grayslake H.S. and FCLC. This was his love and we went to numerous tournaments. He was strong and fast, always on the field.
With great grades, he schooled at home through the pandemic. He worked at Portillo’s and enjoyed the fast pace. Dustin planned on practicing and reentering the soccer tournaments since Covid was allowing sport activities. He was excelling at basketball and was a good challenge to try to beat! He wanted to be a dentist since he was young, and we had a plan ready along with other options. Everything was extremely positive for Dustin.
He was a member of St. Gilbert church where he was baptized and first communion and last rites. He made his confirmation through St. Paul the apostle church. He volunteered at Feed my starving children, and PADS in Grayslake setting up sleeping areas for homeless.
In middle school he was in band and played trumpet, his instructor was amazing and at the competition the group performed Superman concerto. Dustin picked up music by ear and played on his digital piano.
Dustin had a kind heart and would give to others first, even if it took from him. He will be sadly missed by so many. Our baby, friend, brother, and young man is in peace now.
He is survived by his parents, Roark and Renee Keefe; brothers, Kyle (Malarie) and Trevor Keefe; grandmother, Antoinette Habas; uncles and aunts, Patrick and Carolyn Keefe, Clarence and Kathleen Scherich, Edward Habas; and numerous loving cousins!
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marjorie and Patrick Keefe and Joseph Habas.

Kirk C. Stateler
Kirk Channing Stateler, 48, a resident of Ingleside, IL, passed away
Wednesday, April 7, 2021 in Round Lake, IL. He was born August 2, 1972 in Libertyville, IL.
Kirk enjoyed an IPA and toke of the bud whenever possible. This young man loved his heritage. Being of the Campbell Clan he had a deep love for his Scottish Tartan Kilt.
He had recently begun teaching himself to play the violin. He had about 5 violins that he used to learn on over the recent years.
Kirk loved the theater so much he went to Western Illinois University to get a degree in theater lighting. He did lighting set up for different venues across Northern Illinois from time to time.
He loved to play Dungeons & Dragons and other role playing games for the past 30 years with his friends.
He was an avid frolfer. For those who don’t know that is Frisbee Golf.
Kirk was a special part of the Renaissance Faire in Bristol, Wisconsin. He had many rolls and loved them all. His last roll was at the Candlelight Rocks shop. He was the loveable pirate that showed you the importance of sharing the “flame”. One of the special moments for Kirk while working at the Ren, was learning the craft of leather material from his former Ren-mate “Murph”.
Additionally, Kirk was an intrical part of the Realm of Terror, a well-known haunted house in Round Lake Beach, Illinois. He was the scary pirate at the entrance that transformed into a burn victim and then transformed into a beautiful woman by the end of the season.
He loved his time with 60 to Escape in Gurnee where he used his talents and patience to help teach the younger staff the ropes of being a great host.
Kirk was also a manager at Anam Cara Cafe, a coffee shop in Libertyville, Illinois. In case you’re not aware, the family recently learned that Anam Cara is Gaelic in origin and translates to “soul friend”. Many of you, who knew Kirk well, may consider him to be just that. If you have not yet checked out the cafe, you should. You will find it where the old DMV was located on 137 in Libertyville. You may even feel his presence as you sip your coffee. Kirk loved coffee so much so that he went to a school in Chicago to learn how to roast coffee beans and produce the best coffee imaginable. That being said, we know he would love for you to support this local business if you happen to be in the area.
He was very happy being the co-pilot to his brother Kevin while storm chasing in tornado alley every spring.
Kirk is survived by his mother Karen Besaw, his father Sterling Stateler, aka Tony, his siblings Pamela (Jack) Walbrandt, Kevin Stateler (Ruthann Montez), Andrea (Don) Weber, Keith (Darcie) Stateler, Fred (Heidi) Troy, Scott (Melissa) Besaw, Lisa Troy Bown (David Bown), Charlene (John) Hedges, Dawn Bower, and Jon Stateler, his aunt Marie Troy (Bruce Chartier), and numerous nieces and nephews.
