Ray P. Powroznik

Ray P. Powroznik, 75, a resident of Wildwood, IL, passed away July 7, 2022 at his home. He was born March 29, 1947 in Evanston, IL to Raymond and Virginia Powroznik.

Ray attended St. Peter’s Grade School and graduated from St. George High School in 1965. He went to College of St. Michael’s which became the College of Santa Fe in New Mexico. After getting a draft notice in early summer of 1967, Ray joined the Navy with the help of the Carpenter’s Union and became a member of the Sea Bees in August of 1967. He attended boot camp in Gulf Port, MS and was home based in Davisville, RI in USNMCB-40. After doing 2 tours and spending almost 15 months Vietnam he was discharged in 1969.

 In October of 1970, Ray married Nancy Kolar and later divorced in 1979. Ray then met Helen Friesl on a blind date in June 1993, over a Chinese dinner, and was married 18 months later on December 3, 1994. Ray was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 1539 with over 40 years of building houses, a life member of the American Legion as Past Commander of Post 703 in Fox Lake, Past Commander of the 10thDistrict Lake County, and a life member of the VFW post 9655 as Officer and Quartermaster for many years.

 Ray is survived by his step-son Tim (Gina) Friesl and his siblings Mary (Glen) Lauer and his brother Shella Rader. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen and his step-daughter Vicki Miller.

A visitation and funeral mass is scheduled for Monday July 18, 2022 at St. Gilbert Catholic Church 301 E. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030 from 10:00am until 11:00am with the funeral mass commencing at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Ascension Catholic Cemetery in Libertyville, IL. Carole Lynn Olmsted

Carole Lynn Olmsted, age 60, a resident of Algonquin, IL passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at her home in Algonquin, IL.  She was born November 12, 1961 in Carpentersville, IL to James and Gladys (nee Carko) Carico.  She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Cary, IL.

Carole is survived by her partner of 22 years, William “Bill” Justinen; her children, Tiffany K.R. Olmsted of Algonquin, IL, and Noel Lynne (Ken) Grizely of Johnsburg; her grandchildren, Tristan J.L. Gustafson of Marquette, MI, Lillian K.R. Gustafson of Algonquin, IL, Gavin L. Grizely of Johnsburg, IL, and Brody R. Grizely of Johnsburg, IL; her siblings, Timothy (Cairie) Cariro of Fort Blackmore, VA, Pamela Carico of Morris Town, TN, and Jan Carico of Saxapahaw, NC; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Margaret Ann Radke

Margaret Ann Radke, 101, a resident of Grayslake, IL passed away on July 4, 2022. Margaret was born on April 21, 1921 in Litchfield Minnesota to Oscar and Katherine Anderson nee Reagen.

Margaret was a member of St. Andrews Church in Grayslake. She was employed for many years to the city of Grayslake and received a certificate of appreciation for her extra ordinary service from the mayor.

Margaret is survived by her son Jim (Donna) Radke, Viroqua, WI, her daughter in law Penny (George) Bailitz, Twin Lakes, WI, her grandchildren Kermit Radke, Kurt (Heather) Radke, Darek (Dawn) Radke, Bret (Rose) Radke, Grant (Mary) Radke, Robin (Doug) Nehls, Liz Radke, Chuck Radke. 15 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Edward Radke, her son Kermit Radke Sr., her step son Edward Radke, her brothers Edward Anderson, Bernard Anderson, and her sisters Mary Perisan, Kay Foley, Hanah Becker, Helen Winn.

Mark Zimmerman

Mark Zimmerman, 39, a resident of Chicago, IL, passed away June 23, 2022 at his home. He was born July 29, 1982 in Libertyville, IL to Deborah and Mark Zimmerman. Elizabeth ” Liz” A. Parkinson

Elizabeth (Liz)  A. Parkinson, 70, a resident of Grayslake, Illinois passed away on June 30, 2022, at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Illinois with her husband, Michael by her side.

Liz was born on February 14, 1952 in Chicago, Illinois to Raymond C. and Rosemary C. Wilkins. Liz and Michael married on November 24, 1973 at St. John Brebeuf in Niles, Illinois. 

With a Masters Degree in Education from Northeastern University and over 40 years of teaching, Liz was devoted to early childhood education. She taught at St. Isaac Jogues in Morton Grove and St. Francis de Sales in Lake Zurich, Illinois. She maintained her connection with some of her students throughout her life.

Liz was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. In addition to her husband, Liz is survived by her children Jeffrey Parkinson (Mande), Charles Parkinson (Jennifer), her grandchildren Brandon, Wilhelmina, Francis, and Theodore, her sisters Mary Lou Pier (Edwin) and Catherine Wagner (Randall) and her brother Joseph Wilkins.

A visitation will be held at St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 22333 W. Erhart Road, Mundelein, Illinois on Wednesday July 6, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. with a funeral mass to follow.  Interment will be held privately.

Heather Waldoch

Heather Waldoch, 70, of Grayslake passed away June 22, 2022, at home. She was born August 28, 1951, in Libertyville to the late Robert Gordon and Ruth (Larsen) Madsen. On May 22, 1976, in Chicago, Heather married the love of her life, Lee M. Waldoch. Heather loved animals, especially elephants, the outdoors, camping, nature, and swimming. She also enjoyed interior decorating. Heather is survived by her sister, Gail (Edward) Craddock; sister-in-law, Colleen Madsen; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Laura and Michael Luisi; nieces, Nicole, Trisha, and Miranda; nephew, Frank; cousins, Linda Ansell, Kristin Ansell, Joelle and Sam; and her best friends, Ron and Rose Page. In addition to her parents, Heather was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, Lee M. Waldoch; her brother, Robert G. “Chip” Madsen Jr.; and her nephew, Kevin Lee. Michael A. Boeckx, 31, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away June 26, 2022 at his home. Nivardo Alcaraz

Nivardo Alcaraz, 25, a resident of Detroit, passed away June 12, 2022 at his home.  He was born September 20, 1996 in Libertyville, IL to Lucrecia Alcaraz de Luna. 

Nivardo loved music and playing in his band “Puente Grande”.

Nivardo is survived by his mother Lucrecia Alcaraz de Luna, his children Ariadne Guadalupe Perez Saucedo and Ailin Guadalupe Alcaraz, his grandfather Daniel Luna, and his siblings Raymond Alcaraz, Daisy Alcaraz, Lupita Alcaraz, and Valentina Luna.  He was preceded in death by his girlfriend Jasmine Gutierrez, and his grandmother Endedina Castillo Prado.

Lidwina E. Hertel

Lidwina “Lindy” E. Hertel, 90, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away June 18, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family.  She was born February 26, 1932 in Libertyville, IL to Aloysius Sr. and Evelyn Elfering.

Lindy was a longtime member of St. Gilbert Catholic Church in Grayslake.  She worked as a nurse for Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for 35 years.  She enjoyed gardening.

Lindy is survived by her husband Irving, her children Yvonne (Mike) Piefer, Karen (Kim) Kobernick, and Deborah (Ken Miller) Hertel, her grandchildren Tara (Chris) Huebner, Clayton (Jessica) Kobernick, Clifton (Krystin McDermott) Kobernick, Chris (Quincy) Jenkins, Katelyn (Brian) Catalano, and Matt (Bridgette) Jenkins, her great-grandchildren Jade Huebner, Everly Huebner, Evert Jenkins, Elliott Jenkins, Maddie Jenkins, Brayden Jenkins, and Gemma Catalano. She is survived by in-laws Lucille Elfering, Diane Elfering, Pat Elfering, Richard Cankar, Sharon Elfering and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandchildren Jeremy Jenkins and William Kobernick, her sister AnnaMarie Cankar, brothers Aloysius, Francis, Joseph, and Edward, her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law LeRoy and Lillian Hertel and Urb and Lorraine Wagner. Elizabeth A. Olson

Elizabeth Ann Olson, 60, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away June 9, 2022 at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital in Lake Forest, IL.  She was born July 11, 1961 in Zion, IL to Curt B. and Nancy J. Olson .  

Elizabeth was a loving daughter, sister, auntie, and friend that left this earth too soon.  She will be greatly missed by all.

Elizabeth is survived by her mother Nancy J. Morgan, siblings; Mark (Vicki) Olson of Pleasant Prairie, WI, and Karen (Wendy) Olson of Key West, FL.

She was preceded in death by her father Curt B.Olson, grandfather Arthur L. Sawyer, and grandmothers Fern Sawyer and Ann Olson.

James Burk

James A. Burk, 81, a resident of Round Lake Beach, IL, passed away June 12, 2022 at his home.  He was born March 5, 1941 in Oneida, TN to James and Sally Burk.

James was a member Heartland Baptist Church where he enjoyed serving for the Lord.  He enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, watching wrestling, football, and the Chicago Cubs.

James is survived by his children Tracy Burk, Michelle Burk, and Rebecca (Donald) Deibert, his grandchildren Christopher Burk, Zachary Burk, Kaitlyn Deibert, and Brianna Deibert, his siblings Zola Brewster, Geneva Koger, and Arlie Burk, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Peggy, and his brothers Floyd, Cletus, Ethol, and Otis Burk.

Aloisia Hermann

Aloisia Hermann passed away on June 10, 2022 in Chicago IL

Aloisia was born in Croatia, Yugoslavia to Johann and Katharina Hermann.  She then immigrated to the United States in 1958,

Alosia is survived by her brother Johann (Rita) Hermann, sister Katharina Hermann, Brother in law Stefan Strauss.

She was preceded in death by her parents Johann and Katharina Hermann , her brother Josef Hermann, and sisters Anna Hutwagner, and Maria Strauss.

Merialice D. Swanson

Merialice Doretta Swanson (nee: Spaulding) passed away on June 12, 2022 in Round Lake Beach, IL.

MeriAlice was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved spending time with her husband, her children, and her grandkids whom she adored.  She spent her free time birdwatching, sewing, and solving crossword puzzles. MeriAlice also enjoyed time with friends and frequently traveled around enjoying the country. 

MeriAlice fondly recalled her favorite memory with her husband Sam as the day she married him. They met in California when he was in the US Navy and travelled around until finally settling in Round Lake Beach, IL, where they spent the remainder of their 59 years together.

MeriAlice is survived by her four children, Jim, Carla, Sarah, and Matthew. She has 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and her sister Helen Butterfield.  She was preceded in death by her parents Marion and Mary Spaulding, her husband Sammy Swanson, and her 2 brothers.

Cheryl A. Fisher

Cheryl Ann Fisher, 59, a resident of Wildwood, IL, passed away June 9, 2022 at her home.  She was born June 24, 1962 in North Chicago, IL to Arnold and Palma (nee: Alfonso) Jensen.

Cheryl enjoyed bingo, Card Sharks, poker, dogs, gardening, cooking, and going to the race track.  She loved the neighborhood she grew up in Wildwood.

Cheryl is survived by her significant other, Chuck Bojniewicz, her daughter Michelle (Eric) Raukohl of Colorado, and her siblings Joe (Barb Bys) Shepherd of Pleasant Prairie, WI, Kristine Jensen of Kenosha, WI, and John Jensen of Fox Lake, IL.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Bill Shepherd.

William E. Wollmuth

William Edward Wollmuth, 69, a resident of Waukegan, IL, passed away May 13, 2022 at his home.  He was born December 28, 1952 in Libertyville, IL to William and Eileen Wollmuth.

Bill was a renaissance man of many interests and talents.  He was a musician, mechanic, electrician, traveler, and truth seeker.  Bill enjoyed playing his guitar for family and friends and watching live music.  He loved his family and savior, The Lord Jesus Christ.

Bill is survived by his mother Eileen Wollmuth, his children Zora (Steve) Wasil of Estero, FL, Vance (Sheila) Wollmuth of Algonquin, IL and Rhiannon Leigh Wollmuth of Gastonia, NC, his grandchildren Evan Wasil of Estero, FL, Etienne Grey Wasil of Estero, FL, Austin Wollmuth of Waukegan, IL, Lucas Wollmuth of Algonquin, IL, Cadyn Wollmuth of Algonquin, IL, and Ziannah Wollmuth of Algonquin, IL, and his siblings Jerome Wollmuth of Grayslake, IL, Michael Wollmuth of Beach Park, IL, Kathy Wollmuth of Lake Villa, IL and Paul Wollmuth of Kenosha, WI.  He was preceded in death by his father William Theodore Wollmuth.

Donald L. Hintz

Donald L. Hintz, age 72, a resident of Wauconda, passed away on June 7, 2022 at Journey Care Hospice Center in Barrington.  He was born on April 6, 1950 in Chicago to Willis and Eveleen Hintz.  Don graduated from Grayslake Community High School Class of ’68 and thereafter the College of Lake County.  He retired at age 66 from Tredegar in Lake Zurich.  Don was a kind, loving and benevolent person.  He repeatedly showed love by his ongoing commitment and dedication to his family, friends and neighbors.  He was a relentless giver; an earth angel.  He was as sharp as a tack and could fix anything, to say the least, from cars to toys! He was truly loved and admired by all who knew him, and will be dearly missed.

Don was survived by his wife, Chris, of 19 years whom he married on March 15, 2003 in Kona, Hawaii; his children, Amanda (Jon) Thomas of Colorado Springs, CO, Jessica (Dan) Zimmerman of West Palm Beach, FL, and Jeremiah (Sabrina) Hintz of DeSoto, IL; (his step-children), Aimee (Tom) Renkes and Kevin Lindh; his grandchildren, Nolan, Harry, Quinn, Rosalindh, Bob, and Tara; his siblings, Dianne Daley of Rochelle, IL, Judy (Gary) Boyd of Trempealeau, WI, Jeanette (Bert) Adams of Waynesburg, KY, Sue (Dave) Janusz of Fox Lake, IL, and Sandy (Bob) Kofoed of Gurnee, IL.  He was preceded in death by his father, Willis Hintz and his mother, Eveleen Hintz who was 98 years old, and who also recently passed away just 3 hours after Don.

As Don requested, a “Celebration of  Life” outdoor event will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at his favorite place, Larry and Stefanie Scott’s farm at 33008 N Fairfield Rd. in Round Lake. Domenica Tucci

Domenica “Dee” Tucci 1924-2022 Domenica “Dee” Tucci, age 97, passed away peacefully on June 8th, 2022 due to natural causes. She was born in New York City on August 25th, 1924 to Cologida and Ernesto Tricarico. Her parents immigrated from Palermo, Italy in 1900. She married Jerry Tucci, while he was in the service, on June 6th, 1943, who preceded her in death in 2013.

Dee was an energetic, creative, loving person with a bright smile. She was a compassionate spirit whose passion was her family. Her energy was infectious. Dee instilled in her children a sense of purpose, honesty, and creativity. She loved music and art, and was herself talented in many ways. Dee worked as a Beautician, for almost 50 years. She moved to Florida in retirement and was an avid tennis player well into her 80’s. Dee had many hobbies including ceramics, needle-point, sewing, and crocheting filling her home with dolls dressed in various crocheted outfits of her own design. In 2014 she traveled to Italy to experience her ancestral culture and attend a Papal mass. She moved to St Catherine’s Commons in 2013 where she enjoyed an active life even after her stroke in 2016.

She is preceded in death by her 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and Daughter, Geraldine. Dee is survived by her daughter, Lorraine and son -in-law Alfred Robinson, Son, Mark and daughter-in-law Krystyna Tucci, 9 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. All of whom she loved and touched deeply.

Neil S. Margeson

Neil Stephen Margeson passed away on June 1, 2022 after a short illness.  Neil was born on December 4, 1978 in Gurnee, IL.  He held a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia College.

He was husband to Amy Margeson (nee Dietz) and proud father to Ava and Parker Margeson.  He was a beloved son to Kevin and Jaye Margeson and brother to his sister Jenna (Dan) Madia. 

His endless love for his family came through in everything he did for them.  He was an avid fan of all sports, especially watching his kids’ sports; however, none more than his love for the Green Bay Packers.  Between going to Packer games with his family and doing podcasts about the team, he was the ultimate fan.  He loved to travel, especially to the ocean, and was always up for new experiences.  Neil lived life to the fullest and was always there for his family and friends.  He was a part of many local and extended communities and always willing to donate his time.

In addition to Amy, Parker and Ava, Neil is survived by his sister Jenna (Dan) Madia, sisters-in-law Christina (Brian) Zalewski, Megan (Ray) Moresi, Melissa (Steve) Alberts and nieces and nephews (Vincent, Bella, Connor, Ray, Stephen, Wyatt, and Ryan) and in-laws, Robert and Adrienne Dietz.

Kathleen M. Friend

Kathleen M. Friend, 72, passed away May 30, 2022, at Journey Care Barrington, IL. She was born September 7, 1949, in Chicago, IL to George and Dawn (Baber) Totino.

Her nephews: Andrew, Scott, Jeff, Michael, and Nicholas, her nieces: Jennifer, Jill, Bethany, and Brittney, her great-nephews: Cameron, Calvin, Henry, and Zachary, and her great-nieces: Allison, Sydney, Addie, Finley, Taylor, Julie, Hailey and Alessandra.  Kathleen is preceded in death by her parents George and Dawn Totino.

Our sister, Kathleen Friend, has ended her struggle with ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Kathy passed quietly and peacefully May 30, 2022 within the guiding hands and love of Hospice. It’s been a long journey for all of us but we smile when we know she is free of her confining body. She said when she recently dreamed, she was running free.

Kathleen’s favorite holiday was Christmas and was a Hallmark Channel fanatic. She loved the Chicago White Sox, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and listening to music especially The Letterman, Clay Aiken, The Buckinghams, The Ides of March, and The Raiders.

A visitation will be held at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E  Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030 on Thursday June 2, 2022 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Words of Celebration will be at 7:00 pm. Interment will be held Friday at 11:00 am at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery  1400 S. Wolf Road, Hillside, IL. 60162. Please meet directly at the Cemetery Office. Pentti Kulmala

Pentti Kulmala went home to be with the Lord on May 27, 2022 at the age of 93 years. Pentti was born in Hollola, Finland in 1929. He married Anja Pollä in 1951, and came to America with a wife and 3 children by way of Canada in 1963. He established himself as a notable carpenter and contractor, eventually leaving his mark of excellence on neighborhoods all over the North Shore by the time he retired (gradually) in the early 2000s. Pentti was a man of great Christian faith and charity, supporting several causes and offering kindness wherever he found need. He is preceded in death by his wife of nearly 70 years, and survived by his four children, Kitty Andert (Josh) of Seattle, WA; Dr. Henrik Kulmala of Third Lake, IL; Kai Kulmala (Ruth) of Rantoul, IL; Dr. Ruth Kulmala (Robert) of Lake Bluff, IL; and Jonina Weisz of Portland, OR. He is also survived by several grandchildren; Dr. Faith Grzesik (Alexander), Kai Kulmala (Janelle), Hope Kulmala, Andrew Repp (Lisa), Finn Repp, Ori Weisz, and Elan Weisz. He also has four great-grandchildren: Kail, Emma, and Alexis Kulmala and Simone Repp. All funeral arrangements were held privately and entrusted to Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E.
