Donald L. Hintz

Donald L. Hintz, age 72, a resident of Wauconda, passed away on June 7, 2022 at Journey Care Hospice Center in Barrington.  He was born on April 6, 1950 in Chicago to Willis and Eveleen Hintz.  Don graduated from Grayslake Community High School Class of ’68 and thereafter the College of Lake County.  He retired at age 66 from Tredegar in Lake Zurich.  Don was a kind, loving and benevolent person.  He repeatedly showed love by his ongoing commitment and dedication to his family, friends and neighbors.  He was a relentless giver; an earth angel.  He was as sharp as a tack and could fix anything, to say the least, from cars to toys! He was truly loved and admired by all who knew him, and will be dearly missed.

Don was survived by his wife, Chris, of 19 years whom he married on March 15, 2003 in Kona, Hawaii; his children, Amanda (Jon) Thomas of Colorado Springs, CO, Jessica (Dan) Zimmerman of West Palm Beach, FL, and Jeremiah (Sabrina) Hintz of DeSoto, IL; (his step-children), Aimee (Tom) Renkes and Kevin Lindh; his grandchildren, Nolan, Harry, Quinn, Rosalindh, Bob, and Tara; his siblings, Dianne Daley of Rochelle, IL, Judy (Gary) Boyd of Trempealeau, WI, Jeanette (Bert) Adams of Waynesburg, KY, Sue (Dave) Janusz of Fox Lake, IL, and Sandy (Bob) Kofoed of Gurnee, IL.  He was preceded in death by his father, Willis Hintz and his mother, Eveleen Hintz who was 98 years old, and who also recently passed away just 3 hours after Don.

As Don requested, a “Celebration of  Life” outdoor event will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at his favorite place, Larry and Stefanie Scott’s farm at 33008 N Fairfield Rd. in Round Lake. Domenica Tucci

Domenica “Dee” Tucci 1924-2022 Domenica “Dee” Tucci, age 97, passed away peacefully on June 8th, 2022 due to natural causes. She was born in New York City on August 25th, 1924 to Cologida and Ernesto Tricarico. Her parents immigrated from Palermo, Italy in 1900. She married Jerry Tucci, while he was in the service, on June 6th, 1943, who preceded her in death in 2013.

Dee was an energetic, creative, loving person with a bright smile. She was a compassionate spirit whose passion was her family. Her energy was infectious. Dee instilled in her children a sense of purpose, honesty, and creativity. She loved music and art, and was herself talented in many ways. Dee worked as a Beautician, for almost 50 years. She moved to Florida in retirement and was an avid tennis player well into her 80’s. Dee had many hobbies including ceramics, needle-point, sewing, and crocheting filling her home with dolls dressed in various crocheted outfits of her own design. In 2014 she traveled to Italy to experience her ancestral culture and attend a Papal mass. She moved to St Catherine’s Commons in 2013 where she enjoyed an active life even after her stroke in 2016.

She is preceded in death by her 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and Daughter, Geraldine. Dee is survived by her daughter, Lorraine and son -in-law Alfred Robinson, Son, Mark and daughter-in-law Krystyna Tucci, 9 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. All of whom she loved and touched deeply.

Neil S. Margeson

Neil Stephen Margeson passed away on June 1, 2022 after a short illness.  Neil was born on December 4, 1978 in Gurnee, IL.  He held a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia College.

He was husband to Amy Margeson (nee Dietz) and proud father to Ava and Parker Margeson.  He was a beloved son to Kevin and Jaye Margeson and brother to his sister Jenna (Dan) Madia. 

His endless love for his family came through in everything he did for them.  He was an avid fan of all sports, especially watching his kids’ sports; however, none more than his love for the Green Bay Packers.  Between going to Packer games with his family and doing podcasts about the team, he was the ultimate fan.  He loved to travel, especially to the ocean, and was always up for new experiences.  Neil lived life to the fullest and was always there for his family and friends.  He was a part of many local and extended communities and always willing to donate his time.

In addition to Amy, Parker and Ava, Neil is survived by his sister Jenna (Dan) Madia, sisters-in-law Christina (Brian) Zalewski, Megan (Ray) Moresi, Melissa (Steve) Alberts and nieces and nephews (Vincent, Bella, Connor, Ray, Stephen, Wyatt, and Ryan) and in-laws, Robert and Adrienne Dietz.

Kathleen M. Friend

Kathleen M. Friend, 72, passed away May 30, 2022, at Journey Care Barrington, IL. She was born September 7, 1949, in Chicago, IL to George and Dawn (Baber) Totino.

Kathleen is survived by her sisters; Sharon Pfister, Debra Vesecky, Laurie Totino-Rohl (Michael) Rohl. Her nephews: Andrew, Scott, Jeff, Michael, and Nicholas, her nieces: Jennifer, Jill, Bethany, and Brittney, her great-nephews: Cameron, Calvin, Henry, and Zachary, and her great-nieces: Allison, Sydney, Addie, Finley, Taylor, Julie, Hailey and Alessandra.  Kathleen is preceded in death by her parents George and Dawn Totino.

Our sister, Kathleen Friend, has ended her struggle with ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Kathy passed quietly and peacefully May 30, 2022 within the guiding hands and love of Hospice. It’s been a long journey for all of us but we smile when we know she is free of her confining body. She said when she recently dreamed, she was running free.

Kathleen’s favorite holiday was Christmas and was a Hallmark Channel fanatic. She loved the Chicago White Sox, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and listening to music especially The Letterman, Clay Aiken, The Buckinghams, The Ides of March, and The Raiders.

A visitation will be held at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E  Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030 on Thursday June 2, 2022 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Words of Celebration will be at 7:00 pm. Pentti Kulmala

Pentti Kulmala went home to be with the Lord on May 27, 2022 at the age of 93 years. Pentti was born in Hollola, Finland in 1929. He married Anja Pollä in 1951, and came to America with a wife and 3 children by way of Canada in 1963. He established himself as a notable carpenter and contractor, eventually leaving his mark of excellence on neighborhoods all over the North Shore by the time he retired (gradually) in the early 2000s. Pentti was a man of great Christian faith and charity, supporting several causes and offering kindness wherever he found need. He is preceded in death by his wife of nearly 70 years, and survived by his four children, Kitty Andert (Josh) of Seattle, WA; Dr. Henrik Kulmala of Third Lake, IL; Kai Kulmala (Ruth) of Rantoul, IL; Dr. Ruth Kulmala (Robert) of Lake Bluff, IL; and Jonina Weisz of Portland, OR. He is also survived by several grandchildren; Dr. Faith Grzesik (Alexander), Kai Kulmala (Janelle), Hope Kulmala, Andrew Repp (Lisa), Finn Repp, Ori Weisz, and Elan Weisz. Vijaya Ramchandra Soni

Vijaya Ramchandra Soni, a resident of Mumbai, India, passed away on May 28, 2022. She was born on March 23, 1943 in Bihar, India. She was one of four siblings. She had a Master’s degree in Hindi and a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She moved to Mumbai after her marriage to Late Prof. Ramchandra Soni, in December 1969. She taught Hindi, for almost a decade, at a school in Mumbai. Her interests were varied – while on one hand she had deep knowledge about Hindi and its etymology, on the other hand, she was well versed on plants, foods, and their medicinal values. She was an avid reader and one of her favorite author’s was Meena Prabhu whose travelogues she enjoyed reading. She also spent time translating English books to Hindi. In her later years she had developed an interest in cricket. Her two favorite films were Lagaan & M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story. Her other hobbies included gardening, music, and spending time with her loved ones. 

Vijaya cared deeply for her family and friends. She had tremendous grace and patience to accept whatever life brought her way. With Covid restricting her travel to the US for almost 2 years, she was finally here to visit with her children & her grandchildren. Vijaya is survived by her sons, Anabhra and Anshuman and their families. A visitation will be held at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd. Ora I. Mills

Ora I Mills 90, a resident of Winthrop Harbor, IL, transitioned to paradise on May 22, 2022 in Kenosha WI. She was born February 19, 1932 in Itawamba County Mississippi to Thomas and Cora Davis. Ora was raised in Red Bay Alabama where she met and married Edward Mills on July 2,1950.  That unity brought forth six children, Beverly, Wanda, Danny, Douglas, Lori, and Lynn. Ora will always be remembered as a devoted wife and mother, and women with a multitude of talents she was a writer, excellent cook, seamstress, barber, gardener, decorator, and a talented crocheter. She had a heart of gold, a was a devoted friend and prayer warrior for anyone in need. Left to mourn and cherish her memory are her children Danny, Douglas, Lori, Lynn, and two grandsons Alex and Andrew. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward of 55 years, her daughters Beverly and Wanda, her parents Thomas and Cora, her sisters Juanita and Verdie Mae, and her brother Gilbert.

Elizabeth D. Lencioni

Elizabeth D. Lencioni, 81, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away May 26, 2022, at Evanston Hospital, in Evanston, IL. She was born January 18, 1941, in Chicago, IL to Harold and Marion (nee: Farley) Brentlinger
Elizabeth was a positive person with a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed many years working at Culligan where she developed numerous friendships. She was an avid reader, loved to cook, but most of all loved being with her grandchildren and family.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 59 years, John Lencioni, whom she wed on May 25, 1960, in Glenview, IL, her daughter Tami Finegan of Montana, her grandchildren Ben Finegan of Montana, and Melissa Finegan of Montana, and her sister Maryann Buchanan of Oregon. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son Kevin.
A funeral mass will be held at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church 502 S. Park Blvd. Streamwood, IL on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at 12:00 pm. A reception will take place on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at 3:00 pm at the Lake House in Saddlebrook Farms.

Robert K. Wegge

Robert K. Wegge passed away on May 25, 2022 at Charter Memory Care Facility. Robert was born in Burlington, WI on February 23, 1927 to Stella Emmerling Wegge & Herbert J. Wegge. He received a BA in Science from Marquette University. He was inducted into the Army in 1950. After his discharge from military service, he attended the University of Wisconsin, earning a Master’s Degree.

He married Mary J. Ori on June 18, 1955. In 1960 he established an accounting & tax firm. He moved his family to Grayslake in 1964. The accounting firm ATC Wegge, Ltd., is still in Grayslake today with 3rd generation of family serving the community.

Bob was a past post commander of both American Legion Post 659 & the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2245. He was also a past president of the Exchange Club of Grayslake & the Exchange Club of Round Lake. He served on the Grayslake Police Pension Board & Highland Lake Property Owners Association Board. His hobbies were flying, classical music & golf.

He was proceeded in death by his wife Mary in 2017 & his above mentioned parents. He is survived by his daughter Linda Wegge (Robert Slipke) sons Kurt (Sandra Carlson) & Mark (Victoria Smock). Grandsons Bryan Slipke & Sean Wegge. Granddaughters Sarah, Michelle & Dana Wegge. He is survived by his brother Russell Wegge, niece & nephews of Burlington, WI.

Funeral mass will be held at St. Gilbert Catholic Church 301 E. Belvidere Rd.Grayslake, IL, Thursday June 2nd at 12PM. Family will greet family & friends from 10-12. A Catholic burial will be held privately.

Phyllis M. Stickels

Phyllis M. Stickels, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Lake Forest Hospital.  She lived independently in her own home and enjoyed an active full life until she passed.  She was born on April 20,1929 in Townsend, WI to Jennie and Walter Kilman. Her parents, and five loving siblings all preceded her in death.

Phyllis moved to Grayslake at the age of 14, and was a lifelong resident. She graduated from the first class of Grayslake High School, and was the first Homecoming Queen – “Miss Football” 1948. She owned a business in town – “Bob’s Delicatessen” with her first husband, Robert J. Hook. With Robert, she had two daughters; Debra (Hook) Claxton and Tamien (Hook) Lustig.

Phyllis later married Milton Stickels, also of Grayslake, and together they enjoyed a very large combined family; which included Milton’s beloved children: Steven Stickels, Douglas Stickels, David Stickels, Michael Stickels (deceased), and their families.
Phyllis worked for many years at Rockenbach Chevrolet in Grayslake, and then later at Abbott Laboratories. She was a lifelong member of the Grayslake Exchangettes, the Grayslake Historical Society, an active bridge player, and a formidable Scrabble opponent.  She cared deeply for family and friends and brought joy to all who knew her.
Phyllis is survived by her daughters; Debra (Hook) Claxton and husband Paul; Tamien (Hook) Lustig and husband Sheldon, and by her grandchildren: Katie (Claxton) Valdovinos & husband Mark of Brookfield, WI; Kevin Claxton of Los Angeles, CA; Erin Claxton of Chicago; and Emiline Lustig of Chicago; She also had two beloved great-grand-children; Cadence and Dane Valdovinos.

A visitation will be held at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030 on Sunday, May 29 from 2-4 pm. There will be a brief eulogy at the conclusion of the visitation. Interment will be a private event at a later date.

James M. Syler

James M. Syler, 66, a resident of Grayslake, IL, peacefully passed away May 24, 2022 at home surrounded by loved ones. He was born February 5, 1956 in Chicago, IL to James and Arlene Syler.

Jim along with his dad, “JR” owned and operated Mohave Trucking in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jim’s greatest passion was fishing and cheering on the Chicago White Sox and Blackhawks, although nothing outweighed the passion and love that he had for his family.  

Jim is survived by his wife Kim, his mother Arlene, sister Jill and niece Leah. He his also survived by his children Jacob (Nicole), Jordyn, Lesley (Zach), Michael (Heather), and Kelly.  He was Papa to Riley and Alexis, Papaw to his Sox loving buddy Clayton and Grandpa Jim to Beatrix “B.B.”.   He was preceded in death by his father, James Richard.

John P. Reese

John P Reese, 77, passed away the morning of May 19. 2022 at the home in Wildwood that he shared with his wife, Alyce, for almost 30 years. He was born in Seattle, WA, to Otto and Marjorie (nee Wheeler) Reese on January 6, 1945 and raised near Decatur, IL.

He proudly served in the Army during the Vietnam war and supported Veteran’s groups including the VFW, Marine Toys for Tots, Paralyzed Veterans, DAV and the Wounded Warrior Project. As a self-employed salesman for most of his career, he took pride in maintaining the tools and equipment he used to maintain his home including his 1996 Jeep, harvesting the crops in his garden, building creative furniture and looking for natural solutions to combat the effects of modern living.

John is survived by his wife Alyce, his step-son Luke, daughter-in-law, Heidi, and grand-daughter, Symone.  His quirky sense of humor and passion for life will be missed.

Brenda R. Fox

Brenda R. Fox, age 65, a resident of Waukegan, passed away on May 20, 2022 at Lake Forest Hospital in Lake Forest, IL after a three year battle with cancer.  She was born on July 3, 1956 in Waukegan to Lawrence and Bernice (nee Neva) Fox.  Bren retired from Cardinal Health after a 30 year career.  She worked very hard to create a comfortable life for herself.  She loved horseback riding, when she was younger she had her own horse, Midnite.  She loved all animals and will be missed dearly by her kitty, Marley.  She enjoyed boating and owned her own boat for seven years.  Bren and her entire family love boating on the Fox River. Thanks to her father, the entire family became boaters. Her favorite song to listen to and karaoke to was Crazy by Patsy Kline.   She had a beautiful townhome and loved decorating.  She enjoyed all her family and friends.  She was a wonderful sister and sister-in-law. Bren will be deeply missed by all.

Sammy Swanson

Sammy Swanson, age 84, a resident of Round Lake Beach, IL, passed away on May 19, 2022.  He was born on January 16, 1938 in Lenoir, NC.  Sammy served in and retired from the United States Navy.  He was an avid outdoorsman and loved working on wood projects. 

Sammy is survived by his wife of 59 years, Merialice, whom he married on December 1, 1962 in California; his children, Jimmy Swanson of Hawaii, Carla Swanson of Washington, Sarah Swanson of Illinois, and Matthew Swanson of Illinois; his grandchildren, Lana (Alison) Swanson of North Carolina, Cory Swanson of Washington, Kayla Kowalski of Illinois, Amanda Swanson of Ohio, Megan (Mikal) Bijelic, Cecily (Seth) Sims of Illinois, Shania Kowalski of Illinois, and Makanzi Kowalski of Illinois; and 5 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Swanson; his mother, Mary Frances Swanson; and his sister, Helen Miller.

John W. Ingoglia

John William Ingoglia, age 75, of Richmond IL, passed away Tuesday May 17, 2022 in North Chicago. He was born in Waukegan IL, on July 19, 1946 to Salvatore and Lydia Ingoglia. John proudly served in the Vietnam War and was a member of Northshore Rods since 1994 and retired from the City of Highland Park. He enjoyed his cars, motorcycles, and loved his family. He is survived by his wife of 42 years Rosemarie Ingoglia; his children Teri (Craig) Tisdale, and Karl (Sherry) Johanesen; his brother Tom (Donna) Ingoglia; sister Angie Walther; his brother in law Frank Merlo; brother in law Louie Paparigian; and sister in law Melba Ingoglia; his grandchildren, Aaron Donovan, Lindsey (Scott) Kaminski, Elizabeth Donovan, Kaylee Halmstad, Alicia Johanesen; his great-grandchildren, Rory Rothenberg, and Jaxton Halmstad. Karen J. Russo

Karen J. Russo, 67, a resident of Round Lake Park, IL, passed away May 18, 2022 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL.  She was born February 21, 1955 in Ohio to Raymond and Jean Russo.

Karen enjoyed making hook rugs.

Karen is survived by her daughter Tammy (Carl Deprima) Morrison, her grandchildren Amber, Travis, Ashley, Rachel, and Megan, her great-grandchildren Aubree and Aiden, and by her siblings Nancy Santucci, Rick Russo, and Donna Doebler.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Gertrude M. Schulz

Gertrude Marie Schulz, 92, passed away May 13 at the Village of Victory Lakes in Lindenhurst, IL, a senior living community where she had resided the past eight years. 

She was born Dec. 5, 1929, in the Town of Meeme, WI, to Arno John and Martha (nee Wessel) Schulz. A 1948 graduate of Kiel High School, she played drums with the municipal band. The band traveled to South Milwaukee, Chicago and Canada to play in festivals and competitions.

She was employed at the Leverance Shoe Factory in New Holstein before moving to Des Moines, IA, to teach ballroom dancing for Arthur Murray Dance Studios. In 1960, she moved to Waukegan, IL, to work at Abbott Laboratories. A few years later, she traveled to Los Angeles, CA, and worked in accounting for a collection agency and later at Royal Globe Insurance Company. She went back to Abbott Laboratories in 1968, retiring there after 26 years.  

Although she preferred to be called Gertrude or Gert, family members all knew her affectionately as Gertie.  She had an independent spirit, a generous soul, and traveled extensively around the world. She was an avid reader and crafter, donating much of her handiwork and books to charities.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arno John and Martha; step father Herman Lukesh, brothers Robert, Carl and Arno John; sisters Dorothy Diefenthaler and Marian Piper; sister-in-law Doris Schulz and brothers-in-law Willard (Lefty) Diefenthaler and Jack Piper.  She is survived by sisters-in-law Dolores Schulz and Jean Diefenthaler, as well as 12 nieces and nephews.

A graveside service for Gertrude will be held Saturday, June 4, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s UCC Schwarzwald, W3401 Orchard Road, Elkhart Lake, WI. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to their favorite charity.

Ollie Ray Ferrell

Ollie Ray Ferrell of Spring Grove, IL, passed away on May 13, 2022 at Condell Hospital in Libertyville.  He was born in Park Ridge, IL on January 4, 1969 to James Ferrell and Jeanette Collins. 

Ollie never met a stranger and had no filter. He will always be remembered for his big heart and his love for his children.  He was extremely excited to be a Grandfather this year.

Ollie is survived by his mother Jeanette Collins, his children Jared Reed Ferrell, Chelsi Ferrell, his brothers Marvin Ferrell, and Mike Coleman, his nieces Angelica Ferrell, and Paige Ferrell, and nephews  James Ferrell, and Eli Coleman.

He was preceded in death by his father James Reed Ferrell, his Aunt Connie Coleman, and his uncle Herold Coleman.

Bart E. Bielecki

Bartosz E. Bielecki, age 37, a resident of Round Lake, passed away on May 14, 2022.  Bart was born on November 1, 1984 in Poland to Erwin and Violetta Bielecki.  He was a funny, loving, kind person who loved making people smile.  He was a loving son and brother.

Bart is survived by his parents, Erwin and Violetta; and his brother, Radek.

Charles E. Scholl

Charles E. Scholl, age 84, a resident of Wildwood, IL,  passed away on January 6, 2022 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.  He was born on October 3,1937 in Libertyville to Alfred and Harriet (nee Johnson) Scholl.  He was an avid bowler, a Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan, and loved playing the guitar.  

Charles is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda (nee: Meyer), whom he married on August 21, 1971 in Lake Forest; his children, Karleen (Jerry) Cockrum of Wildwood and Ellen Scholl of Lake Villa; his grandchildren, Cody Shields of Wildwood, Tony Shields of Lake Villa, Austin Cockrum of Wildwood, and Emma Cockrum of Wildwood.  He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bob, Eugene, and Don; and three sisters, Shirley, Nancy, and Beverly.

A memorial service will be held at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030 on Friday, June 24, 2022 at 7pm.  A visitation will be held from 6pm until the time of service on Friday at the funeral chapel.
