Georgeanna M. Ott

Georgeanna M. Ott, age 94, a resident of Chicago, passed away on March 25, 2023 at her home.  She was born October 6, 1928 to George and Anna Meixner.  She was born and raised in Chicago, living there for 60 years before moving to Grayslake for 31 years.  She most recently resided in Chicago for the past 3 years.  Georgeanna was the past president of the Grayslake AARP.  She was also a member of St. Gilbert Catholic Church and previously of St. Andrew.

Georgeanna is survived by her children, Kathleen (Richard) of Chicago, Joseph (Cynthia) of Davenport, IA, John (Gwen) of Union Grove, WI, and Barbara (Dennis) of Minocqua, WI; her grandchildren, Peter (Rosa) of Tallahassee, Fl, Christopher (Kelly) of Hoffman Estates, Josef (Lindsay) of Ft. Worth, TX, Daniel (Jennifer) of Billings, MT, Anna of Hoffman Estates, Benjamin of Ventura, CA, Erin of Minocqua, WI, Jeremy (Angela) of Milwaukee, WI, Erik (Elizabeth) of Hayward, WI, Caleb (Danielle) of Davenport, IA, and Jacob of Davenport, IA; and her great grandchildren, Christopher, Joshua, Everett, Abigail, Ethan, Caiden, Andrew, Madison, Reagan, Vivian, and Rio.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph and her parents. 

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Gilbert Catholic Church, 301 E Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030 on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 11am.  A visitation will be held on Thursday at Church from 10am until the time of Mass.  Interment will be held at Ascension Catholic Cemetery in Libertyville, IL.  All funeral arrangements were entrusted to Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Patricia Figge

Patricia Figge, 92, a resident of Lindenhurst, Illinois, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2023 at her home in the Village of Victory Lakes.  She was born December 20, 1930, to Sadie and Richard Whiting in Chicago, Illinois. 

Patricia grew up in Chicago and attended Taft High School. Pat met the love of her life, Walt Figge, and they were married December 23, 1950 while he was stationed overseas in Europe with the Army for two years. They were married just short of 70 years. Pat was a devoted and loving mom to her two daughters, Theresa and Cynthia, and raised them in Des Plaines, Illinois. Patricia was beloved by her four grandchildren. Patricia was an early pioneer in outside sales for a specialty steel company. She was a beautiful person, with an unfailing spirit of love and kindness, and a tender disposition. Patricia was a member of the United Church of Christ. She is survived by her daughters, Theresa Bell (Warren Bell), and Cynthia Figge (Steve Zuhl), and her four grandchildren, Warren Bell, Marissa Bell, Jessica Zuhl, and Ross Zuhl. Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Christian Figge, her mother, father, and brothers, Richard Whiting Jr. and Kenneth Whiting.

Doris M. Craig

Doris M. Craig, 91, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away March 15, 2023 at her home. She was born December 3, 1931 in Chicago, IL to Stanley and Edna Hansen.

Doris was a teacher for the Waukegan Public Schools District for 25 years.  She was a member of the United Protestant Church, Women’s Christian Fellowship, and Friday Knights.  She enjoyed volunteering for the Grayslake Historical Society, being a band parent and Cub Scout leader.

Doris is survived by her sons Dennis, Dean (Carol), and David (Linda), her grandchildren Matthew, Emma, Rose (Dustin), Shannon (Brian), Bryan (Kaitlyn), Justin, Brandon, and Jason, and her 6 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband Dale Craig, her parents and her sister Mildred Miltonberger.

A visitation and funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at United Protestant Church, 54 S. Joan C. Franzen

Joan C. Franzen, 70, a resident of Fox Lake, passed away on March 8, 2023 at Journey Care in Barrington. She was born on November 1, 1952 in Chicago to Jessie and Joan Spoto.

Joan is survived by her sons, Aaron and Nicholas Franzen; her siblings, Michael Spoto and Jessica Bohl; niece, Michelle Sanfillipo; and former husband. Terry Franzen.

A memorial visitation will be held at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Belivdere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030 on Friday, March 17, 2023 from 5pm until 7pm.  Interment will be held privately.

Harold W. Holden

Harold Wayne Holden, age 80, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away on March 14, 2023 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.  He was born on September 7, 1942 to Howard Henry and Madeline Bernice Holden.  Harold was born and raised in Perrysville, Indiana and was a resident of Grayslake for the last 55 years.  He served his country with the United States Navy.  He was a master cabinet maker and wood worker.

Harold is survived by his son, David Wayne Holden; his grandsons, James Wayne Holden and Jacob Summers; his great grandchildren, Avery, Kayden, and Brooklynn Holden.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Carmel Kay Holden; his daughter, Joanne Lynn Johnson; and his parents.

Erick R. Domain

Erick R. Domain, 35, a resident of Lake Villa, IL, passed away March 12, 2023 at his home.  He was born September 14, 1987 in Lake Forest, IL.

Erick attended Lakes High School.

Erick is survived by his father William (Cathy Butts) Domain, his brothers Ryan Domain, Kevin (Sarah) Domain, and Kyle Domain, his grandmother Sue Domain, his nephew Ethan Domain, and his many aunts and uncles.  He was preceded in death by his mother Nannette Domain and his grandfather Raymond Domain.

Daniel T. Witikka

Daniel Todd Witikka, 81, of Gurnee, IL, passed away in Fox Lake on March 11, 2023.  He was born November 23, 1941, in Waukegan, IL. to the late Edgar and Alvina Witikka.  He is survived by his children, Robin Witikka, Scott (Rebecca) Witikka, his grandson Declan Witikka, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He grew up in Waukegan and graduated from Waukegan Township High School.  After high school, he enlisted in the Army and served overseas from 1961 to 1963.  When he returned home from the Army, he met Donna Livingston.  Daniel and Donna got married and had three children: Robin, Scott, and Heidi.  The family moved to Gurnee in 1978 and, in 2012, he became a grandfather to Declan Michael Witikka, whom he enjoyed watching movies with, eating popcorn, and devouring lots of candy and sweets.

Daniel worked at Com Ed for over 28 years as a lineman and crew leader.  During this time, he earned the nicknamed “Mad Dog” due to his quick temper and strong work ethic.  When he retired from Com Ed, he worked at Omni Printing in Waukegan, and made several friends along the way.

Daniel always enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  He loved to cook, ride his motorcycle, fish, dine out, and socialize with all his friends and family.  He loved to tell jokes and would argue about anything just to be funny and make people laugh.  Everywhere he went, he always seemed to know someone and would always strike up a conversation whenever approached.

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents Alvina and Edgar Witikka, his sister Marilyn, his brothers Thomas and John Whitaker, and his daughter Heidi Witikka.

A funeral service will be held at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030 on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 1:00pm. A visitation will be held on Saturday at the funeral chapel from 11am until the time of service.  Interment will be held at Northshore Garden of Memories in North Chicago, IL.

Kenneth John Wodek, Sr.

Kenneth John Wodek, Sr., 84, a resident of Wildwood, IL, passed away March 10, 2023, at Advocate Condell Medical Center.  He was born June 3, 1938 in Chicago, IL to Stanley and Rose Wodek.  Ken served his country with the United States Army.  He retired as a printer from OMC Johnson Motor.  He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Alberta, of 63 years whom he married on June 28, 1959 in Grayslake; his children, Kenneth (Sandra) Wodek, Jr. of Crystal Lake, William (Angie) Wodek of Grayslake, Richard (Michele) Wodek of Grayslake, Janet Albert of Grayslake, and Thomas (Lisa) Wodek of Leesburg, FL; his grandchildren, Robert Wodek of Grayslake, Kenneth (Emma) Wodek III of Wildwood, Jason Wodek of Crystal Lake, Louis (Kristi) Albert III of Chesapeake, VA, Eric (Brittany) Wodek of Ft. Patricia “Patt” Hines

Patricia M. Hines, 86, a resident of Grayslake passed away on March 7, 2023 in Libertyville, Illinois. She was born on March 8,1936 to Richard and Lenore Collins in Chicago, Illinois.

Patricia “Patt” Nanner Hines, beloved mother and grandmother to family and friends. She welcomed all she met Patt was a waitress at the Golden Bear, and worked 30 years for Jewel food stores.  Patt enjoyed living near the water, having homes on the Fox River, Silver Lake, and Vacation Village.  Her motto in life was “It’s 5 O’ Clock somewhere” as she skippered her pontoon boat on the chain o lakes. She loved her children and grandchildren, most of all she will be missed dearly by her family and friends epecially Jan Winters and Rosemary Nebergall, Kendall Krug, and Robert Domek, and by her tea cup Pomeranian Clancy.

She is survived by her children Robert (Debbie) Hines, Linda (Tom) Hourihan, Lisa (Donnie) Sloan, Pattie (Ted) Ziarkowski, her grandchildren Matthew May, Amanda May, Daniel (Taylor) Hourihan, Timothy (Angie) Hourihan, Bryan Wiora, and her 5 great-grandchildren.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents,her sister Clare Zern. and her grandson Scottie Wiora.

Heidi Witikka

Heidi Witikka, 46, passed away on July 19, 2022, in Peoria, Arizona. She was born on July 3, 1976, to Daniel and Donna Witikka in Waukegan, Illinois.

She grew up in Gurnee, graduated from Warren Township High School in 1995, and attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. After working several office positions in the Gurnee area, Heidi decided one day in 2001 that she had had enough of the cold winters and headed west to Arizona. In 2003, she was certified from the Arizona School of Massage Therapy and worked as a massage therapist on a cruise ship and at various hotels and spas in the Scottsdale area. From the moment Heidi was born, she was always smiling and happy. She definitely was a brave person — nothing really scared her. She was the life of the party and always stated her view point and stuck with it even if it was not accurate. Heidi loved to dance and play volleyball. Her father and brother would take her on their trips to Colorado where they would ski and fish. Heidi always enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was a strong, energetic, and happy little sister who would brighten her older sister’s day with her quirky ways.

Heidi was predeceased by her mother, Donna Witikka. She is survived by her father Daniel Witikka, her older sister Robin Witikka, her older brother Scott Witikka, her sister-in-law Becky Witikka, her nephew Declan Witikka, and many aunts and cousins. Christopher A. Schaffner

Christopher Alexander Schaffner, 28,the beloved son of Andrea (Jed) Gerstein and Chris (Cherise) Schaffner. Christopher is also survived by his sisters Kayla Campillo, Isaly Schaffner, and Haley Gerstein. Christopher lost his long battle with Type 1 Diabetes on Wednesday, March 1, 2023. He will be remembered for his very kind and nurturing ability to make those around him feel loved and special.

Jack R. Bredahl

Jack R. Bredahl, 83, of Grayslake, IL, was born April 21, 1939 in Milford, IA and passed away on March 2, 2023.  Jack was the loving husband of Ann for 64 years, loving father to Michael (Joan) and Mark (Lourdes); grandfather to Lyndsay (Scott) Felix, Gwendolyn and Christian Bredahl; great-grandfather to Anabel, Isaiah, Antonio, and Lorenzo Felix.  He was found by and acquainted to his half-brother Wayne Smith in recent years.

He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Mabel Bredahl, his grandparents Ernest and Alene Reed and Minnie Bredahl, and assorted aunts, uncles, and cousins

Jack was a credit manager of Quill (later Staples) for the last 28 years of his working career.  He achieved his lifetime goal of living on the water by acquiring a home in Three Lakes, WI area on Planting Ground Lake where he spent a decade or so after retirement fishing, boating, and enjoying living in the beautiful north woods.  He enjoyed having family and friends visit him there.

Raquel Rojas

Raquel Rojas, age 71, a resident of Round Lake Beach, passed away on February 24, 2023 at her home.  She was born on March 3, 1951 in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico to Dolores Casique and Josefina Balderas.

Raquel is survived by her husband, Rojelio Rojas; her children, Alfonso Rojas of Chicago, IL, Juana Gallegos of Chicago, IL, Jose (Alma Moreno) Rojas of Round Lake Beach, IL, Monica (Bruno Ruiz) Rojas of Chicago, IL, Ana Alicia (Nelio Patino) Rojas of Chicago, IL, Joaquin (Tania) Rojas of Chicago, IL, Omero Rojas of Chicago, IL, and Guadalupe Rojas of Round Lake Beach, IL; her 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; and her siblings, Antonio (Rosa) Casique, Elena Casique, Carolina (Carlos Montero) Casique, Trinidad Casique, and Moises (Lourdes) Casique, all of Celaya, Gto., Mexico.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law, Antonio Campa.

Judith A. Mavilla

Judith “Judi” A. Mavilla, 77, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away February 16, 2023, surrounded by family.  She was born March 16,1945 in Pittsburgh, PA to Donald and Lillian Hurley.

Her favorite pastimes were reading, playing cards, crossword puzzles and cardio drumming.  She was a great friend and a passionate supporter of her family.

Judi is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert Mavilla, her children Lisa (Ron) Shibovich and Ryan Mavilla, her grandchildren Kaitlin Shibovich, Ava Shibovich, Madison Mavilla and Joe Mavilla, and her siblings Dan (Rosario) Hurley and Michael Hurley. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Don and her sister Merrily.

Helen A. Sassen

Helen Ann Sassen, 88, a resident of Libertyville, IL, passed away February 7, 2023 at Story Point in Libertyville, IL.  She was born July 2, 1934 in Jackson, MI. 

Helen was a mother, teacher, and expert piano player.  She enjoyed playing the piano at St. Gilbert for services and at Story Point.

Helen is survived by her sons Timothy (Shelly) Sassen, Patrick (Betsie) Sassen, and Matthew Sassen, her grandchildren Trevor Sassen, Noah Montegue, Tierney Sassen, And Connell Sassen, and her sister Joan (the late Norm) Dewey.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James Sassen. Joseph F. Colletti

Joseph F. Colletti, 81, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away February 10, 2023 at Northshore Hospital in Highland Park, IL.  He was born June 29, 1941 in Chicago, IL to Frank and Katherine Colletti. 

Joseph was retired from his work as a pressman.  He enjoyed baseball, was a movie buff, was a real foodie, and loved his coffee.  He was a stock car racer and a great bowler.

Joseph is survived by his children Tony Colletti, Gina Colletti-Nechi, Frank (Kattie) Colletti, and John (Missy) Colletti and his grandchildren Angela, Lorenzo, Suzie, and John.  He was preceded in death by his father Frank Colletti, his mother Katherine Heinz, his step-father LeRoy Heinz, and his sister Shirley Wiegert.

James H. Lee

James H. Lee, age 85, a resident of Grayslake, passed away on February 6, 2023 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Round Lake Beach.  He was born on January 16, 1938 in Cotton Plant, Arkansas to Ben H. and Nannie Lou (nee Lamb) Lee.  He enjoyed reading, playing the guitar, gardening, bowling, and old cars. 

James is survived by his wife, Mildred, of 67 years whom he married on September 23, 1955 in Arkansas; his children, Debbie (Bill) Vanderborg of Grayslake and Jim (Vickie) Lee of Kenosha, WI; his nine grandchildren; his six great grandchildren; and Charles Lee of Arkansas.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Harold Lee, Imogene Bradley, and Lorine Bartley.

Debbie K. Harrington

Debbie Kay Harrington November 28, 1956 – February 4, 2023

Debbie Kay Harrington, age 66, and beloved wife of James C. Harrington, both longtime residents of Round Lake, IL passed away February 4, 2023.  The daughter of Donald and Kay Sauve of Bloomington, MN, Debbie graduated from Bloomington High School and later attended Normandale Community College.

Debbie first met her husband in 1974 while they were both working at the same White Castle restaurant.  Her husband James enlisted in the United States Navy in 1976 and they were married on December 3, 1977.  Being committed to her husband’s career, Debbie left her home in Minnesota and supported her husband’s military assignments in Virginia, Rhode Island, Minnesota and Washington, finally settling in Illinois. During her husband’s distinguished career, Debbie gave birth to their three beautiful children, Michelle, Donald and Mary Kay.   After the birth of their children, Debbie dedicated her life to being a mother and grandmother.

Debbie is best known for her devotion to family and providing care for children from families seeking a more traditional home environment. Her unconditional love resulted in Debbie being referred to as “Mom” by all those who knew her.

Debbie is survived by her husband, James and their three children, Michelle Harrington, Donald Harrington, and Mary Kay & Husband Mario Lopez as well as her grandchildren, Jason Kyle Harrington, Triston Harrington, Preston Moland and Gavin Lopez. She is also survived by Steven Wilson, her father and mother, Donald and Kay Sauve, her twin brother Donald Sauve Jr., her sister, Lori & Husband Michael Edwards and her sister Stacy Wilson, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 East Belvidere Rd, Grayslake, IL 60030 on Sunday, February 12, 2023 from 2 – 6 pm followed by a funeral service at Saint Gilbert Catholic Church, 301 East Belvidere Road, Grayslake, Illinois 60030 on Monday, February 13, 2023 at 10 am with a brief viewing at 9 am at the church.  Committal will follow at Ascension Cemetery, 1920 Buckley Road, Libertyville, IL 60048

Elisabeth Sarmiento-Betancourt

Elisabeth Sarmiento-Betancourt, 38, a resident of Carpentersville, IL, passed away February 3, 2023 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin, IL. She was born April 5, 1984 to Javier and Teresa Arellano.

A memorial visitation is scheduled for Friday, February 10, 2023 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030. A memorial mass is scheduled for Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 11am at St. Maria de Popolo 116 N. Lake St. Mundelein, IL 60060. Interment will be held privately. Robert W. Wickersheim

Robert W. Wickersheim, 74, a resident of Round Lake Beach, IL, passed away February 7, 2023 at Captain James A. Lovell Federal health Care Center in North Chicago, IL.  He was born   April  28, 1948 in Waukegan, IL to Roy and Delores Wickersheim.

Bob was a graduate of Grayslake High School, and he was a member of United Protestant Church of Grayslake. He was a veteran and served in the Army and was a resident of Grayslake and Round Lake his lifetime.

Bob is survived by his siblings Roy (Louise) Wickersheim Jr., Pamela Wickersheim, Roger (Diane) Wickersheim, Diane (Calvin) Ellison, Karen (Kevin) Small, Shirley (Michael) Fier, Donald Wickersheim, and Joseph Wickersheim.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Joseph Wickersheim.

A memorial visitation and service will be held at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030 on Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 1:00pm until 3:00pm with military honors at 3:00 pm.
