Ruth A. Woodruff

Ruth Alice Woodruff: 07/25/1936 – 03/26/2024

Ruth Alice Woodruff passed away quietly, at home, surrounded by her family and dogs on 03/26/2024. Born on 07/25/1936, Ruth grew up in Grayslake, IL, and raised her family in Libertyville, IL. Ruth’s life was filled with hobbies, adventures and in the service of others. She was a life-long educator, helping hundreds of children start their learning journeys and others achieve their dreams via adult education. Ruth loved anything colored Red, Square Dancing, Camping, Computers, Genealogy, Sewing, Parades, Musicals, Marching Bands, and every tune that John Philip Sousa wrote or inspired. Ruth attended Northern Illinois University, graduating in 1958 and later earned her master’s in education from National Louis University, sharing that adventure with her daughter and friends.

She is preceded by her husband of 61 years CL “Woody” Woodruff, her parents, Adolf and Helen LeDain, her sister Jean, nephew Rick Irvine and grandson Barry Woodruff.

Surviving her are daughter Tammy (Leo) Lowy, her son, Steve Woodruff, her brother John (Wanda) LeDain, her sister Donna (Ed) Slavik, grandchildren Samantha Lowy, Lee Woodruff, Sean (Tami) Shubin, and 2 great-grandchildren Hannah and Alex Shubin as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Strang’s Funeral Home in Grayslake, IL on 04/06/2024 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, with a service following at the same location, at 1:00 pm. A time for refreshments and remembering will be held afterwards, at Hope Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 32475 N Alleghany Rd, Grayslake, IL 60030. Interment will be private.

Beverly DeQuaker

Beverly DeQuaker, 85, was taken to be with the Lord on March 26, 2024.  She was the devoted and loving wife of Donald for over 64 years.  She was born September 1, 1938 in Mt. Horeb, WI to Richard Sr. and Eleanor (nee: Opsal) Plzak.

Bev’s legacy is honored by her 6 children, multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.  She was loved by her brothers: Richard and John, as well as many nieces and nephews.  Bev’s intelligence and caring nature, earned her a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing, working as a Registered Nurse.  She was beloved by her patients who were sorry to see her retire.  Bev enjoyed vacations with Don.  Together they traveled on cruise ships to Alaska, Bermuda, and the Caribbean on several occasions; and vacation flights to Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Singapore and China.  With family they took annual vacations.  The most memorable sight seeing trips were via motor home: A trip of 15 days traveling from Illinois to Arizona; and a 14-day trip through Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee and Ohio.  Wife and husband enjoyed fishing.  Bev was a Eucharistic Minister for many years, in church and to the homebound.  Her husband, her family, and her Catholic faith were the main focus of her life.

Bev is survived by her husband, Donald DeQuaker, her children Steven (Cathie) DeQuaker, Donna (David) Cameron, Lori DeQuaker, Judith L. DeQuaker, Amy DeQuaker, and Patti (Michael) Dean, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, and her brothers Richard Plzak Jr. and John Plzak.  She was preceded in death by her parents and in-laws.

A visitation is scheduled for Friday, April 12, 2024 at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm.  A visitation and funeral mass is scheduled for Saturday, April 13, 2024 at St. Mary of Annunciation 22333 W. Judith A. Pivonka

Judith A. Pivonka, 80, passed away March 15, 2024 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL. She was born February 6, 1944 in Libertyville, IL to Jerry and Ann Unger.

Joyce E. Hanlon

Joyce E. Hanlon passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024 at the age of 99 in Round Lake Beach, IL.

She was born on October 22, 1924, in England, the town of Woolwich to Minnie Maud Meyers and Sydney Albert Rayner. She attended Kings Warren (Brown School) boarding school.

She lived in Zion, IL for 60 plus years and was an Illinois Bell Operator for 30 years, in Waukegan, IL. Joyce was a member of Zion’s Women’s Auxiliary, Kiwanis, Modal A Club, Women’s American Legion, Grace Missionary Church bible study group, volunteer tutor at Zion-Benton High School and election judge.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, John of 51 years.  She was a devoted mother of seven children, Eric (Libby), Donna, Mark (Wendy), Stephen (Judy), Valerie, Trudi (Benny Preslar), Cherylann (Greg Herman); Proud Grandmother to, Michael (Paula), Rabecca, Sonja (Corey), Amy, Matthew, John, Jeremy, Glen, Maxx and Maggy; Great Grandmother to, Sheyenne (Cody), Maesa, Chance, David, Stephanie, Laylah, Kailani, Caleb, Halia; and Great-Great Grandmother to Shylloe.

Richard H. Schultz

Richard H. Schultz, 68, a resident of McHenry, IL, passed away March 17, 2024 at his home.  He was born July 18, 1955 in Lake County, IL to Lois and George Schultz.

Richard is survived by his children Kelli Stanley, April Putwen, Michelle Anderson, and Denise Carlson, his grandchildren Devin Edwards, Alyssa Edwards, Jayden Shannon, Zack Anderson, Jack Anderson, Mack Anderson, Chloe Carlson, Camrin Carlson, Kiara Stanley, Maya Stanley, Olivia Stanley, William Stanley, Alannah Stanley, and great grandchildren Levi Carlson and  Brinley Gersch, and his siblings George Schultz, Joanne Harvey, and Adam Schultz.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Patricia Schultz, and his sisters Barb Schultz and Jeannine Jacobson. 

A celebration of Richard’s life will be held on April 1, 2024 at the Lighthouse Church 2742 Barney Court McHenry, IL 60051 from 4:00PM until 6:00PM.  Proceeding this will be a memorial service in his honor at 6:00PM. Interment will be held privately following the memorial service.

Cole W. Adkins

Cole William Adkins, 24, a resident of Chicago, passed away March 13, 2024 at his home.  He was born April 28, 1999 in Grayslake, IL to Amy and Ted Adkins.

Cole was a member of St. Gilberts Church.  He was a graduate of Grayslake Central High School where he played on the Rams football and lacrosse teams.  He was a black belt in Shotokan Karate and was a member of the Phi-Gamma-Delta Fraternity and the Future Business Leaders of America. Cole lived a full life in his short time and lit up every room he walked into. He traveled the world, and had the most memorable and infectious laugh. He never met a stranger that didn’t become a friend.  He will be missed by everyone dearly. 

Cole is survived by his parents Amy and Ted Adkins, his sister Isabella Adkins of Hainesville and his grandparents Mary Ann DuFour, Nancy Bohr, Paul Crawley, and Theodore Adkins.  He was preceded in death by his grandfather George DuFour.

Srinivas Gollapudi

Srinivas Gollapudi, age 72, a resident of Lindenhurst, IL, passed away on March 12, 2024 at his home.  He was born in India.  He was a member of Chinmaya Mission.

Srinivas is survived by his wife, Lakshmi, of 43 years; his 2 children and their spouses; and his 3 grandchildren.

James H. Tamraz

James Herbert Tamraz, 74, a long-time resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away on March 11, 2024, at his home.  He was born September 4, 1949, in Great Lakes, IL to John P. and June (nee: Horn) Tamraz. 

Jimmy drifted peacefully to the other side smiling after stating he was called for his next epic adventure. He was a “one in a million person” who would find the best in any situation.  Jim was a true optimist and guiding light. He was an outstanding leader, during his military service and at home. Jimmy was a magnificent husband, incredible father, wonderful grandad, valued friend, talented author, enlightened philosopher, a bit of an eclectic (top-hat), trusted mentor for those in need, an avid historian, and a decorated true Vietnam war hero.  Jimmy was always out and about on the forest preserve trails embracing the beautiful gifts of nature. He truly celebrated every single day. 

James is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gale, whom he wed on June 23, 1973, at Fort Sheridan, IL, his children JuliAnna Cimaglio of Third Lake and Gretta (Jeffrey Buff) of Johnsburg, his grandchildren Katelyn Cimaglio, Ellen Cimaglio, and Cameron Buff, and his siblings Jeanne Pirc, Jeff Tamraz, and Jack (Aneta) Tamraz.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Joel Tamraz.

Robert W. Chism

Robert W. Chism, 81, a resident of Lindenhurst passed away Friday March 8, 2024 at 2403 Carmen Court in Lindenhurst, IL. He was born September 26, 1942 in Kenton, OH to Donald and Hildred. Robert was a Christian and a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his children and grandchildren. Margaret Guskey

Margaret Guskey, 88, of Oshkosh, WI, passed away peacefully on February 29, 2024.  She was born in Chicago, IL on March 9, 1935.

She is survived by her sister Linda Groh, daughters Pamela Ipsen, Kathleen Guskey and Monica Guskey.  Grandchildren Benjamin, Ryan and Kyle Crane, Lisa Parker, Susan Cassacio, Erica Ipsen, Mathew Ipsen, Jessica Winkler, Nicholas Cauley, Holly Guskey, Jackson and Samual Krombos, Levi, Corey, Dallas and Lydia Culver.  In addition, she is survived by 31 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Robert Guskey.  Brother John Charles, sister Audrey Heineman, sons Robert and Scott, daughter Christine Ede, grandson’s Daniel Crane and Adam Ipsen.

She loved to volunteer her time at nursing homes and many church activities.  She was a tremendous animal lover and adopted many strays.

A mass will be held in her honor at St. Raphael The Archangel Catholic Church in Oshkosh, WI on Wednesday March 6, 2024 at 11:00 am. Interment will be private in IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Margaret L. Gerchar

Margaret L. Gerchar was born in Cloudcroft, NM on July 26, 1933 to parents Frank and Agnes Carroll. She grew up in Holbrook AZ and after high school, she joined the Navy as a hospital corpsman. Eventually, she was stationed at Great Lakes where she met the love of her life, Rudolph Gerchar.  They married at Mother of God Church and built a home in Waukegan IL where they had and raised two daughters. 

Margaret continued her education, earning a bachelor degree in Nursing and later a bachelor’s degree in Marketing.  She worked at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan for over twenty years before retiring in Grayslake, IL. She enjoyed her grandchildren and family, loved gardening and was an avid reader. She passed away peacefully at 90 years of age on March 2, 2024, surrounded by her family and their dog. 

She was preceded in death by Rudolph Gerchar (husband) and is survived by her daughters Dawn (Elissa) Roman and Devon (Ken) Olzewski and eight grandchildren; Hailee Moore, Rauol Moore, Mardi Roman, Sophie Roman, Rand Roman, Katie Olzewski, Kerri Olzewski and Kenny Olzewski. 

Memorial service will be held at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Esther D. Cruz

Esther Dianna Cruz, 43, of Round Lake Beach passed away on Monday, February 26th, 2024. Her memory will live on through her children and her family. She will be missed dearly.

Rachael R. Genelin

Rachael Rene Genelin, 37, a resident of Gurnee, IL, passed away February 24, 2024, peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born June 2, 1986, in Westerville, OH to Michael and Reneé (Stueber) Genelin.

Rachael attended St Gilbert School, Carmel High School and St. Mary’s University of Winona, Minnesota, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

Her professional work life began as a behavioral therapist for troubled youth and children with autism. She later changed careers and worked with her father and grandfather at Industrial Packaging Corp.

Rachael had a true appreciation for life and self-improvement. She enjoyed exercising and hiking, educating herself and others on nutrition, and gardening. She and her boyfriend met at the Rooftops of Wrigley field where they shared a die- hard interest of the Cubs. Her faith, caring for others, and generosity was of precedence for her. Rachael loved family and friends with a passion, a genuine love that was felt by all who knew her and will never be forgotten.

She fought a long and courageous battle with cancer and was always upbeat and positive. Rachael was a role model for others seeking alternative avenues for health and wellbeing. She brought inexplicable joy to the hearts of many with her warmth and contagious laugh. Rachael will be dearly missed by all.

Rachael is survived by her father, Michael Genelin, her mother, Reneé (Patrick Patterson) Genelin, boyfriend Michael Ranvestel, her siblings Michael (Khadija) Genelin, Matthew Genelin (Christine Berry), Molly Genelin (Colin Stiefer), her niece and nephew Aliya and Bashir, her Godmother, Amy Abel, Godfather, Brian Genelin, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and her crazy dog Remi. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Jim and Pat Genelin and Roman and Arlene Stueber, and her uncle Kevin Genelin.

Heather S. Danielson

Heather Sutherland Danielson, a virtuous woman and wonderful wife, dedicated mother, cherished grandmother, great-grandmother, eldest sister and committed friend, peacefully passed away on February 22, 2024, where she is now “Alive in Heaven”.  Heather was born on November 17, 1940, in Puerto Princesa, Philippines, to Alexander “Sandy” Millar Sutherland and Mary “Maisie” (née Robertson) Sutherland.  Heather is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Philip Paul Danielson, of a blessed 60 year marriage beginning October 26, 1963 in Asheville, NC; her children, Dana (Kelly) Danielson, Thryn (Scott) Slawin, Lynn (Michael) Davis, Douglas (Sandy) Danielson, Thay (Mero) Guirguis, and Paula (Corey) McKinney; her grandchildren, Robert, Rebecca and Kyle; Kelsie (Zachary); Kimberly (Robert), Alexis and Rayna; and Eryn, Fiona and Keegan; her great-grandchildren, Lyanna and Aerith; her siblings, Alastair (Mary), Glen (Marie), Craig (Margaret), and Hazel (Donald) Schaeffer; her sister-in-law Renee (Hood); and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Keith.

Heather was a WWII survivor and evacuee from the Philippines island of Palawan.  She graduated high school at Ben Lippen in Asheville, NC and college at Columbia Bible College in Columbia, SC. She served the Lord in West Paris, ME before being commended by Palm Bible Chapel in FL to missionary work in the Philippines.  As a pastor’s wife and missionary, she raised her children in ME, the Philippines, FL, IL, NY, WV and OH.  Heather provided specialized foster care and respite for children with medically complex needs for several decades.  Mandy, Bobby and Ciara were specific foster children special to her heart.  Heather’s life is an example of gladhearted dedication and service to others without need for adoration.  Heather was humble and her grace to others has been transformative and impactful to others, even into her last few days before being called to Heaven.  Heather did have enjoyments with gardening, canning, crocheting, creating, researching anything from plans to building homes and knowledge of nature and plants.  In all of Heather’s life, she has “kept the faith”.

Visitation and Funeral Service will be held at Trinity Community Church, 1190 W Winchester Road, Libertyville, IL 60048.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 9:00am to 11:00am.

The Funeral Service will also be on Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 11:00am to 12:00pm.

Interment will be held privately another day at Avon Centre Cemetery, 21300 W Shorewood Rd, Grayslake, IL 60030.

Joan Bellamy

Joan Bellamy, 79 of Grayslake, Illinois, formerly of Lake Bluff, Illinois passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.

Joan was born on February 3, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois. She is the daughter of the late Elmer Staufenbiel and Morelle (Hasenburg) Staufenbiel.

Joan was a bookkeeper at Academic Tutoring Center for many years in Highland Park, IL. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She enjoyed watching New York Yankees baseball games and singing along to her favorite music. Everyone who knew Joan would tell you she was funny, smart and proud of her family. She will be truly missed by all.

She is survived by two children, Tricia (Greg) Vanover, of Windermere, FL., and Michael Bellamy, of Mechanicsburg, PA. Her brother, Russ (Kathy) Staufenbiel of Mundelein, IL. Her five grandchildren, Lauren Vanover, Emily Vanover, Makenna Bellamy, Benjamin Bellamy and Joshua Bellamy and many loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brother Michael Staufenbiel.

Shirley Neshek

Shirley (Beaudoin) Neshek, 95, formerly of Libertyville, IL and Green Valley, AZ died February 16, 2024, in Lincolnshire, IL. Shirley was born April 13, 1928, in Coleman, WI to Edward and Julia (Woulf) Beaudoin in her father’s cheese factory. She attended school in New London, Pound, and Goodman, WI and graduated from Messmer High School in Milwaukee, WI. She then attended a nursing program at St. Vincent’s Hospital in
Chicago receiving a nursing certificate in obstetrics and pediatrics. She worked at St. Michael’s in Milwaukee, eventually becoming a private duty baby nurse on the north shore of Milwaukee. Shirley married James A. Neshek on June 2, 1951, at Marquette-Chapel of Gesu in Milwaukee, WI. They lived in Marinette, WI, Rock
Island and Libertyville, IL, finally retiring in Green Valley, AZ and their cottage on Lee Lake, WI. Shirley worked as a Kelly Girl eventually being hired by Rust-Oleum in Vernon Hills in Human Resources. While living in AZ, Shirley was a docent at the Titan Missile Museum, member of the Lions Club of Green Valley and worked spring training for the White Sox even though she was a life-long Cubs fan! She was an avid bridge player, reader, traveler and member of URP, but family always came first. Shirley was Mom to her 6 children: Beth (Mark) Bobel, IL, John (Debbie) Neshek, CA, Mary Neshek, MT, Jean Neshek-Dowe, MO, Annie Sullivan, AZ and Laura (Paul) Pavlus, IL, Grandma to her 17 grandchildren and GG to her 14 great-grandchildren. Shirley is survived by her sister, Marilyn Fazer, many nieces and nephews and lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, her brother, Bill Beaudoin and sister Mary Nelson Charlier. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date at her WI cottage. Julie A. Jonas

Julie Ann Jonas passed away on February 11 in Chicago, Illinois. She was born on May 4th, 1967 at Highland Park Hospital and was the daughter of Marilyn and Joesph Jonas of Libertyville, IL.

To those who knew her, Julie was a strong presence; creative, adventurous, funny, smart, sharp witted, and a gifted artist and writer. Jul, as her friends and family called her, had a deep love for animals (cats in particular) and had a passion for travel, spending time at the beach, Mexican food and reading/writing literature. 

Julie worked as a travel agent throughout most of her life and studied creative writing at Roosevelt University in Chicago. She also traveled throughout Asia and taught English as a second language while living in Taiwan.

Throughout the many health challenges she faced during the latter years of her life, Jul always retained her fighting spirit and worked as an advocate for patients rights in the facility where she lived. She was stronger than anyone realized because she’d been through more than anyone could imagine- Julie had a genuine heart and a warriors soul.

She is survived by her Mother, Marilyn Jonas, her three brothers, Tim, Steve and Chris Jonas, her Aunt Lois Hart, her four Nephews Ian, Conrad, Adrian and Alex Jonas, and her long-time friend Susan Delphino. She was preceded in death by her grandmother Mildred Hart, her father Joesph Jonas and her aunt Dorothy Hart.

Frank T. White, Jr.

Frank T. White, Jr., 84, a resident of Round Lake Beach, IL, passed away February 10, 2024 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL.  He was born August 9, 1939 to Francis and Sophie White.  Frank co-owned and operated Dawn Enterprises which was a construction and woodworking company. 

Frank is survived by his children, Scott (Mindy) White, Sindy (Chuck) Duha, and Judy (Rick) Kretsch; his grandchildren, Linda (Jason) VanAcker, Ben (Kristen Berg) Robinson, Adam (Cynthia) Robinson, Danielle (Anthony) Duha-Terwall, Marcus (DreAna) Duha, Sarah (Jared)Miller, and Taylor (Molly) White; his great-grandchildren, Ethan (Carley), Matthew, Jonathan (Elaina), Allison, Delaney, Leland, Emerson, and Breyson; his great-great-grandchildren, Kaylee, and Alex.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; and his grandson, Christopher.

A visitation and funeral service is scheduled for Monday, February 19, 2024 from 10:00am until 11:00am with the funeral service commencing at 11:00am at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd. Rose Marie Shaver

Rose Marie Shaver, 99, a resident of Wildwood, IL, passed away February 8, 2024 at Thrive of Lake County in Mundelein, IL.  She was born December 11, 1924 in Farimont, WV to Louis and Catherine Schmidt.

Rose Marie was a member of the Mundelein Coin Club.

Rose Marie is survived by her son Dave Shaver, and her grandchildren Adam Shaver, Eric Shaver, Brennan Grosvenor, Morgan Grosvenor, Addison Grosvenor, and Kerry Shaver.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fay Shaver, her daughter Anne Marie Grosvenor, her son Daniel Shaver, her brothers Bob and Louis Schmidt, and her grandson Mark Shaver.

Yvonne J. Richards

Yvonne Jean Richards, age 85, a resident of Libertyville, IL passed away on February 7, 2024 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL.  She was born on June 13, 1938 in Nashville, TN to Charles and Ruth Mabry.

Yvonne is survived by her daughters, Brenda (Keegan) Sands, Karen (Mark) Dettloff, and Diane Johnson; her grandchildren, Jordan Knoll, Tristan Knoll, Maddox Sands, Zachary Dettloff, Ally Dettloff, Matt Johnson, and Cameron Johnson; and 2 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her grandson, Devon Johnson; her sister, Shirley Barnes; and her parents.
