Shirley Lee Murray was born on August 11th, 1935, in Baltimore City, Maryland, and died on April 8th, 2024, in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Shirley grew up in Maryland with her parents, four sisters, and two brothers. As an adult, she started working as a waitress at the Mary-Bo Restaurant &Truck stop and met the love of her life, Edward G. Murray. Eds’ family owned that truck stop, and when he came in to eat, Eds’ eye was caught by a beautiful young lady who devoted her life to him for the next 47 years. It was indeed love at first sight. The two married in 1953 and had their first child, Debra, in 1954. Edward Jr followed in 1956, Billie in 1958, Pamela in 1962, and Cindy in 1966.
She was the biggest cheerleader of her five children and a nephew who lived with them. Shirley always had their backs! After having moved around- from Maryland to California to Michigan, the family settled in Round Lake Park. While raising her family, she worked for the Canteen Corporation at the College of Lake County in Grayslake and Baxter in Round Lake.
Shirley kept herself busy with hobbies such as sewing, making ceramic pieces for years, and entering them into the Lake County Fair. She won many ribbons, some first-place ones! She loved scrapbooking family events and making beautiful books about the whole family. She loved quilting and made lovely quilts for her children and grandchildren. However, one thing she spent over 20 years on was her Genealogy research, and she left behind a beautiful family history that dates to 1878.
Shirley is survived by her children: Debra (Jay) Tumulak of Grayslake, IL; Edward (Cheryl) Murray of Somerset, KY; Billie (Mary) Murray of Delavan, WI; Pamela (Rob) Cecchini of Antioch, IL, and Cindy (Randy) Feldkamp of Kenosha, WI; her grandchildren: Jim (Christy) Arrajj, Shannon (Eric) Fender, Aaron (Leann) Arrajj, Marlone Louie Tumulak, Joshua (Jackie) Murray, Melissa Gensel, Alicia (Stephen) Cole, Brandon (Sarah) Murray, Chaz (Mallory) Whetstone, Tyler Whetstone, Lacy Lanciloti, Vincent Lanciloti, Blake Lanciloti, Lisa Sparks, and Jaylene Sparks; her 26 great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Donna Hollingsworth, Marion DuFour, Bonnie (Jim) Thompson, Bo Goad, and many nephews and nieces.
Her husband, Edward Sr.; sister, Patricia Sargent; brother, Robert Jones; two brothers-in-law, Buddy Hollingsworth, and Billy DuFour; and two grandchildren, Doug Sparks and Louis Lanciloti, preceded her in death.
All will enormously miss her.
