Betty J. Swenson

Betty J. Swenson, a resident of Park City, passed away Friday June 28, 2013 at the age of 81. She was born July 15, 1931 in Chicago to James and Grace (nee: Selix) Ecklund. Betty loved the American Indian culture and collected Indian memorabilia. Betty is survived by her children Candy Alesi (nee: Stoneking) of Park City and Ray (Jackie) Swenson of Kentucky, her grandchildren Steve Bartousek of Schaumburg, Christina Crop of Beach Park, Hank Stoneking of Park City, Hayley Stoneking of Park City, Gina Hubbard of Park City, and Amy Davis of Kenosha, and her 4 great-grandchildren. Dorothy E. Giernoth

Dorothy E. Giernoth, a resident of Round Lake, IL, passed away Friday June 28, 2013 at the age of 86. She was born in Chicago, IL. Dorothy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Round Lake and had retired from Walmart. Dorothy is survived by her children Mary Lee (James) Anderson, Andrew (Diane) Giernoth, Walter (Corinne) Giernoth, and Dan (Karen) Giernoth, her grandchildren Mark (Tracy) Anderson, David Anderson, Susan (Ramiro) Berreles, Carol (Robert) Berreles, Lee (Erin) Giernoth, Greg (Stacia) Giernoth, Kim (Josh) Kinard, Matt Giernoth, Robin (Shawn) Rossmann, Melissa Giernoth, and Michael Giernoth, her great-grandchildren James, Brandon, Autumn, Emily, Cody, Desiree, Jacob, Nickolas, Tiffany, Heather, Josie, Paige, Dan, Madelyne, Sara, Tyler, and Caleb, and her sister Lorraine Sisson. Iva Anderson

Iva Anderson passed away June 28, 2013 at the age of 96. She was born March 3, 1917 in Hennepin, IL. She was a member of the Ivanhoe Congregational Church. George C. Schechner

George C. Schechner, Age 92, beloved husband of Margaret J. Schechner nee Trillschoen, who preceded him in death in 2004, longtime residents of Grayslake and parishioners at United Protestant Church of Grayslake, died on June 28, 2013 at Manor Care of Libertyville after a long fight with COPD. Born in Chicago, grew up on the near west side with brother Robert (who died in 1953), served in the Civilian Conservation Corps, served in the Army Signal Corps during WWII in Italy, served the City of Chicago as a firefighter for 30 years before retiring as a Battalion Chief in 1984. Many remember his service to Chicago as a first responder to the fire at Our Lady of the Angels, and his pride for his service in 1980 when other firefighters left to strike and he remained with other officers to conduct critical fire and rescue operations under police protection for 23 days.
After marrying in 1956 George and Margaret enjoyed 47 years of marriage that included European vacations to visit Margaret’s many relatives , long road trips in powerful cars before radar detection, and dining at all the German restaurants they could find with many friends and family members. Survived by maternal cousins, Thelma Gontesky of California and Judy Meyers of New York. Internment private. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. George J. Klindera Jr.

George J. Klindera Jr., a resident of Grayslake, passed away Thursday June 27, 2013, at the age of 84. He was born June 18, 1929 in Waukegan, IL, to George J. Sr. and Antoinette Klindera. George had retired from Volkswagen after having worked for over 20 years. He was a veteran of the US Air Force having served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Gagewood Lions Club and the Methodist Church in Camdenton, MO. George was an avid sportsman and fisherman. George is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty, his children Kathryn Walter and Mike (Lisa) Klindera, his grandchildren Justin Walter and Jana Klindera, and his siblings Elaine Spokas and Carole Roy. He was preceded in death by his parents. Blanca M. Gonzalez

Blanca M. Gonzalez, a resident of Grayslake, passed away Thursday June 20, 2013 at the age of 72. She was born January 31, 1941 in Mexico to Juan and Diamantina Morales. Blanca was a longtime volunteer at St. Joseph the worker in Wheeling and a member of the Women’s club at Our Lady of the Brook in Northbrook. She was also part of the Women’s auxiliary at Thorek Hospital in Chicago. Blanca is survived by her children Blanca (Pat) Gonzalez-Dunsmore, Virgil (Tina Beckham) Gonzalez, Lorena (Paul) Risinger, and Sandra (Andrew) Gonzalez-Low, her grandchildren Drake, Briana, and Mason Dunsmore, Grant Gonzalez, Liliana (Jason) Bober, Cameron, and Alecia Gonzalez, Chase, Aubrey, and Hannah Risinger, and Eliana, Carissa, and Sarina Low, her great-grandchildren Madelynn, Echo, Ella, and Jason Jr., and her brother Juan Morales Garza. Melinda F. Alcantara

Melinda F. Alcantara, a resident of Gurnee, IL passed away Sunday June 9, 2013 at the age of 50.  She was born May 27, 1963 to Miguela Flores.  Melinda was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Gurnee.  Melinda was actively involved in the music ministry at St. Anastasia, and a fundamental driving force in establishing the annual Simbung Gabi tradition celebrated by Filipinos of Lake County during the Christmas season.   She last worked for Sunrise Assisted Living in Gurnee.  Melinda is survived by her husband of 30 years, Rodrigo Alcantara; her mother Miguela Flores; her children Minnie Rose Alcantara, Charlene Alcantara, Christian Alcantara; her granddaughter Mikaelyn Joy Domingo; and many cousins.   Friends of the family may visit Friday June 21, 2013 from 4:00pm until 8:00 pm at STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, 410 E. Nancy E. Nadia Begin

Paul “Duffy” A. Schlicht

Paul “Duffy” Schlicht, a resident of Gages Lake, passed away at Advocate Condell Medical Center on Tuesday June 4, 2013, at the age of 58. He was born December 29, 1954 in Libertyville, IL at Advocate Condell Medical Center. Duffy attended St. Gilberts Grade school, Carmel High School, and the College of Lake County. He most recently worked for his lifelong friend Matt Wantola. Duffy is survived by his son Dylan A. Schlicht, his fiancée Colleen Murphy, his mother Julia Schlicht, his siblings David (Nancy) Schlicht, Susan Schlicht, Lorraine (Chuck) Butterfield, Edward Schlicht, Joseph (Janine) Schlicht, Julie Schlicht, Margaret Schlicht, Jayne Onan, Catherine (Mike) Morrison, and Therese (Greg) Skarbalus, many nieces, nephews, and friends, and his brother-in-law Bill Roberts. He was preceded in death by his dad Joseph Schlicht, his brother Charles, and his sister Mary Roberts. Duffy was an organ donor. Michele A. Trudeau

Michele A. Trudeau {nee Wolf}, a 60-year-old Grayslake resident, passed away unexpectedly at home on May 28, 2013.  She was born in Waukegan on January 6, 1953.  Michele grew up in Wildwood and graduated from Warren High School, class of 1971. She lived much of her adult life in Antioch.

Michele was brought up in the family’s establishment, Pierre’s Village Inn, where her passion for the restaurant business was born.  She made a name for herself as Event Coordinator at The  Tower Room, Food Service Manager at Antioch High School, and her life time working and personal relationship with John Steitz and Steitz’s Resort.

Michele was also a member and Treasurer of the UDLL Dart League, loved to cook, paint and read and always loved boating on the Chain of Lakes, a place that held many childhood memories for her.  She will be lovingly remembered for her smile and twinkling eyes, her sense of humor and her overall kind-hearted spirit.

Michele is survived by her daughter, Rachel Wolf; her mother, Anna “Toots” Trudeau; her brothers Steve (Sharon)  Trudeau and George (Ronnie) Trudeau; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews as well as a host of dear friends.  She was preceded in death by her father, Andrew “Pierre” Trudeau.

James L. Villiard

James L. Villiard, a resident of Grayslake, passed away Tuesday May 21, 2013, at the age of 84. He was born October 23, 1928 in Ladysmith, WI to George and Esther Villiard. James was a veteran of the US Army and he was employed with Copper Cartage for 18 years before retiring from Keller Trucking after working for them for 18 years. James is survived by his children Alayne Bartlett, Myron (Donna) Bartlett, and Cheryl (Greg) Ehlers, his grandchildren Daniel (Lorinda) Bartlett and Jared (Karla) Bartlett, his siblings Lilah Hall, Mary Brandt, Margie Gapinski, Doris Ostic, and Roger Villiard, and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death his wife Lucille and his siblings Jerome Villiard, Gene Villiard, Alma Mae Swan, Lynn Villiard, Duane Villard, and Lucille Marie. Stanley Q. “Bud” Maloney

Stanley Quentin “Bud” Maloney, a 91-year-old Grayslake resident, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, May 26, 2013 after receiving wonderful care at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.  Bud was born in Louisville, KY to the now late Samuel and Vivian {nee Reed} Maloney.  He served his country proudly as a U.S. Marine for four years in the Pacific Theater during WWII, ultimately attaining the rank of Sergeant.  Bud was the beloved husband of 69 years to Norma {nee Templeton} Maloney; the loving father of Cindy (the late Beverly) Waterstradt; dearest grandfather of Heidi Lynn (Brock) Gohlinghorst; the fond great-grandfather of Sydney Ann and Jessica Jane Gohlinghorst; doting master of his furry pal “Bear”.  His son Michael Reed Maloney preceded him in death.  Friends of the family may join them for memorial visitation at St. Andrew Episcopal Church, 31 Park Avenue, Grayslake, IL 60030 on Thu. Robert E. Schloneger

Robert E. Georgia Norlin

Georgia Bettes Norlin, Lake Barrington resident, formerly of Deerfield, (Northwestern Class of ’47) the beloved star of stage, radio, television, her family, and an entire audience of fabulous friends, passed away with her children Eric and Nancy at her side on Wed. May 8, 2013 at the exquisite age of 89 years and 11 days. She was preceded in death by her accompanist and husband Lloyd B. Norlin, her sisters, and parents. A toast to her past and a toast to her future was an on-going production by her family including Eric and daughter-in-“love” Dee; Nancy and son-in-“love” Kurt, along with her “grands” Kimberly, Nicholas, Jeffrey, Ben, Kyle, and Timothy. A memorial service is being planned for a yet-to-be-determined date in the near future. In a typically unselfish gesture, Georgia donated her earthly remains (as did husband Lloyd) to the Anatomical Gift Society, immediately upon her death. She has finally succumbed to technology, posthumously, with the creation of the “Georgia B. Geraldine “Dean” Haddon

Geraldine “Dean” Haddon, a resident of Bristol, WI and formerly of Wildwood, IL, passed away Tuesday May 7, 2013 at the age of 87. She was born May 25, 1925 in Hurley, WI to Leroy and Leila Leichtnam. Dean loved bingo, playing cards, visiting the casinos, and enjoying time with her kids and grandkids. Dean is survived by her children Marilyn “Boots” (Paul) Portegys, Dean (Cathy) Haddon, Bill (Carol) Haddon, Beth (Jeff) Sinesh, her 6 grandchildren, and her 3 great-grandchildren. Eugene L. “Les” Werhniak

Eugene L. “Les” Werhniak, age 85, of Gages Lake, passed away at home on Sun. May 5, 2013.  He was born in Highland Park on April 24, 1928 to the now late Anton and Emma Werhniak.  Les served his country proudly as a U.S. Marine.  He was a lifelong member of the V.F.W. in Lake Villa, a retiree from Abbott Labs, and loved to ride his Harley.  Les is survived by his Wife Georgie, whom he wed on April 24, 1981 in Gages Lake; his children Kris (Leon) Somers of Nekoosa, WI, Raymond (Jody) Njust of Wildwood, and Robert (Carri) Njust of Gwinn, MI; his nephew Jeff Vesecky of Montello, WI; seven grandchildren whom he loved to spend time with: Kristin, Kimberly, Katelyn, Nicole, Anthony, Karly, and Cheyanne; three great-grandchildren Kendall, Grayson, and Drew.   His sister Elyse, brother-in-law Rudy Vesecky, and sister-in-law Emma Vesecky preceded him in death.  Friends of the family may visit at STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, 410 E.
