Sol Speno, 77, of Round Lake Beach, Il, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Condell Hospital, in Libertyville, Il. Sol was born to Vito, Mary Speno nee Bingham on May 27, 1936 in Harlem, Ky. Sol loved to fish, he was an avid Bears fan, he enjoyed computers, and all things electrical. He was very proud to have graduated electrical school. Richard M. Lucille Bauer, 79, passed away peacefully at home with her family in Grayslake, IL on Tuesday April 29, 2014. She was born February 27, 1935 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada to Joseph and Erma Lang. Lucille was a member of St. Phillips Church in Northfield. She had retired from Dominick’s Grocery Store, loved to work on crafts, and loved her home in Florida. Lucille is survived by her sons Wayne (Cynthia) of Grayslake and Douglas of Wauconda, her grandchildren Jennifer, Jessica, Matthew, Megan, and Brittany, her sister June, and her sister-in-law Jane. She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin in April 2011, her brother Norman, and her sister Florence. Jeffrey M. Damore, 38, of Grayslake, passed away on April 24, 2014 at home. Jeffrey was born on October 27, 1975 to Vincent, and Margaret Damore nee Robidou. Jeffrey was an avid Chicago Blackhawks fan, he loved fishing, and cooking, he liked listening to loud music, but most of all he cherished his family, especially his son Gavin. Survivors include his son Gavin, his mother Margaret, his sister Nicole(Mike)Hanna of Ohio, brother Joseph of Lake Villa, niece Katlyn, Ohio, nephew Dominic, Ohio, grandmother Helen Damore of Kenosha, grandmother Elaine Robidou of Deadwood South Dakota. Braun, Leo B. Jr., age 87, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband for 46 years of Laura I. Braun, loving father of Edrita M. Carole Renz, 83, of Grayslake, passed away Sunday April 20, 2014 at Sedgebrook Health Center in Lincolnshire, IL. She was born September 6, 1930 in Northbrook, IL the daughter of Donald and Thorun (nee: Einarson) Clavey. Carole loved to play cards, cook, and in her younger days dance. She was an avid reader and was always interested in current events. Carole loved animals and loved to laugh. Jane Lee

Jane Lee, age 62, of Grayslake, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. She was born June 25, 1951 in Chicago to Quon and Wai Ying Wong. Jane was a faithful, loyal, and active Jehovah’s Witness. She loved birds, cats, gardening, and especially her ministry work. She is survived by her husband, Harvey, whom she married 42 years ago on June 3, 1972 in Chicago; son, John, of Grayslake; her mother, Wai Ying Wong of Libertyville; and her siblings, Sue (Owen) Lowrey of Elgin, Matthew (Sharon) Wong of Antioch, and Richard (Trisha) Wong of Lake Villa. She was preceded in death by her father, Quon. John Charles “Jack” Midler

John Charles “Jack” Midler, 85, of Grayslake, IL passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014 in Libertyville, IL. Jack was born December 4, 1928 to Charles and Margaret (Duffus) Midler in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He grew up in Southern Minnesota, and graduated from Eyota High School, Eyota, Minnesota, in 1946, part of a class of 5.

Jack served in the Army Air Force Reserve in Biloxi, Mississippi after high school at the end of World War II. After his time in the Reserve, he attended Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he graduated in 1953.

Jack spent his entire professional career in two companies: General Mills, based out of Minneapolis, MN and Archer Daniels Midland based out of Decatur, IL. Jack was an avid reader throughout his life, and enjoyed playing cards, spending time at the family cottage in northern Wisconsin, and fly fishing.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Janice (Kinney); son Scott (Zoe) Midler; daughter Gayle Midler, and grandchildren Griffin Midler, Miranda Midler, and John Sison.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030 at 11:00AM. George C. Rosene

George C. Rosene entered eternal life on January 28, 2014 at Oak Crest (Dekalb Area Retirement Center) in Dekalb, IL at the age of 86 years. George was born to Elmer Carl Rosene and Fannie Wallace Rosene on May 31, 1927 in Princeton, IL. He moved with his family to Grayslake when he was two years old. George served in the US Navy from 1945 to 1946 at the end of World War II. On September 4, 1948 he married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Poeske in Waukegan, IL. George was a family man and truly enjoyed cheering on his sons at their high school athletic events including taking 8mm movies of their games. He served in several capacities at his church and was faithful in his attendance at services. George was predeceased by his brothers, LaVern and Lowell and his sister Genevieve Beck as well as a new-born brother, Carl E. Rosene. He is survived by his wife of 65+ years, Dorothy Rosene, his sons Stephen C. Rosene of Shabbona, IL and Michael C. (Pamela) Rosene of Carbondale, IL. His grandchildren, Jonathan C. (Megan) Rosene of Picton, New Zealand, Jeremy (Amanda) Rosene of Carbondale, IL and Krista (Jonathon) Hunzicker of Fayettville, NC; also his step grandchildren Pammela (John) Cooper of Yorkville, IL and Richard (Jennifer) Sweeney of Malta, IL and by nine great-grandchildren. Bernard McGeever

Bernard “Bernie” McGeever, 79, formerly of Ingleside, IL passed away peacefully on April 11, 2014, surrounded by his family. Born February 19, 1935 in Cloontia, Co. Mayo, Ireland, Bernie worked alongside his brothers for ten years, in London, England before coming to the United States in 1960. he met his beloved wife, Teresa (nee: Clifford), in Chicago, IL and they married in 1965. Bernie was a longtime member of Ironworkers’ Union Local No. 1, and he worked for several years in the construction of several Chicago buildings, including the Sears (Willis) Tower, and the Dirksen Federal Building. Always a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Bernie is survived by his children, Eileen (Troy) McCabe, of Rockford, Josie (Sean) Morrisroe of Crystal Lake, James (Jana) of Hawthorn Woods, Sean (Diedra) of Grayslake, and Brian of Ingleside; grandchildren Morgan and Devin Morrisroe, Shannon, Ryan, and Katelyn McGeever, and Riley and Logan McGeever; his brothers Patrick (Mary) of Cincinnati, OH and Tom (Stella) of Kendal, England, and sisters Bridget Battersby of London, England and Teresa (Bill) Black of Crestwood, IL; his uncle Thomas Finn of Cloontia, Co. Gerald M. Roszkowiak, 73 , A resident of Grayslake, passed away at Condell Hospital on Sunday April 6, 2014. Gerald was born on February 28, 1941, to Martin and Phyllis Roszkowiak nee Smiertka. Gerald was a graduate of Arch Bishop Weber High School class of 59. He was a past School Board President of Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr School, He loved to golf, at the Hickory Noll Golf Course. Gerald was an electric model, and train enthusiast, he was also an avid cubs fan. Gerald most of all loved, and cherished his family. Survivors include his wife of 51 years Diana, they were married on August 25, 1962 in Chicago at Our Lady Of Grace. Maria Strauss

Maria Strauss, a resident of Grayslake, passed away Thursday April 3, 2014, at the age of 78. She was born July 11, 1935 in Verovitisa, Yugoslavia Croatia to Johann and Katarina (nee: Spoljaric) Hermann. Maria was a member of the St. Mary of Annunciation Church. She loved to cook, bake, and gardening. Maria like to watch sports with her husband, but most of all she loved spending time with the family and especially her grandchildren. Maria is survived by her husband of 57 years, Stefan, whom she wed on October 4, 1958 in Chicago, her children Helga (David) Brand of Wauconda, Richard (Laurie) of Grayslake, and Josef (Nancy) of McHenry, her grandchildren Jonathan Brand, Heidi Strauss, Maria Strauss, Dan Strauss, and Ken Strauss, and her siblings Aloisia Hermann of Chicago, Anna (Mathew) of Germany, Katarina of Austria, and Johann of Australia. George Schlung

George William Schlung, age 77, of Antioch lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on Monday, April 2, 2014.  George was born July 28, 1936 to Jack Schlung and Peggy Molidor.  He was raised in Round Lake, IL and attended Allendale.  He met the love of his life Carol Johnson.  They were married for 49 years and together they had four children: Ron (Lori) Schlung, Tyanna (Jeff) Cannata, Charlene (Jack) Rabey and Denise (Jeff) Greinke.  He was blessed with nine grandchildren: Jennifer and Michelle Schlung, Alec, Jake and Paige Cannata, Jaime and Ashley Utter, Nicole Lidstrom and Jakob Greinke and one great-granddaugther, Vanna Lidstrom.  George is also survived by his sister, Judy (Ray) Richardson and many nieces and nephews.  George was a former resident of Round Lake, Fox Lake, and Hainesville.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Carol.  George worked at Spinney Run Farms, Ziegler Construction, General Iron and Lake County Grading  Company.  He also served many years as Trustee and Police Commissioner for the village of Hainesville and was a volunteer at Condell Hospital for many years.  He was a die-hard sports fan, avid snowmobiler, and loved playing cards.  Most important in his life was his family as he cherished attending all of his children’s and grandchildren’s school and sporting events.  Friends of the family may visit from 12:00pm to 4:00pm Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 East Belvidere Road (Route 120), Grayslake, IL 60030.  There will be a visitation from 9:00am until 10:00am Monday, April 7, 2014  at Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church, 265 East Washington Street, Grayslake, IL 60030, with the funeral service commencing at 10:00am at the church. Freeda V. Starovich, age 87, of Leesburg, FL passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. She was born in Waukegan on August 21, 1926 to Alex and Hilda (nee Kahara) Makinen. Freeda loved to bowl and golf and liked to make dolls and doll clothing. She also enjoyed crafts of all sorts. She was a member of the Red Hat Purple Dress Society and the Hawthorn Woods Stock Club.
