Scott Fleischmann

Scott Thomas Fleischmann, age 66, a resident of Grayslake, passed away Monday, December 29, 2014 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He was born July 30, 1948 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Vernon and Virginia (nee Kosick) Fleischmann. Scott was an avid Packer and all-around Wisconsin sports fan. He liked golfing, biking and traveling. Scott was also a spiritual mentor and friend to many. Scott is survived by his wife, Lynne, whom he married 15 years ago on April 10, 1999 in Gurnee; his mother, Virginia Fleischmann; his children, Lora (Paul) Conrad of Franklin, Tenn., Katy (Perry) Jarka of Orland Park, Liza (Jeremy) Good of Round Lake Beach, and Joshua Turcotte of Chicago; grandchildren, Levi, Caleb, Elijah, Flynn, Greta, Grant, Madison, James and Alyssa; and his sisters, Linda (George) Greenwald-Zach of Wales, Wisconsin and Jayne (Rich) Schaefer of Mesa, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon. Virginia Blume

Virginia Blume, 65, a resident of Grayslake, passed away Friday December 26, 2014. She was born August 13, 1949 in Chicago, to William and Tina Blume. Virginia was a member of the Vernon Hills Senior Club, Germania Club, the Red Hat Club, SPRED with Santa Maria in Mundelein, and SRACLC. She had worked for Columbus Hospital in Chicago for 24 years, volunteered at Countryside Center in Palatine, and participated in Special Olympics in Chicago. Virginia is survived by her sister Marge Blume and her friend Steve Desser. She was preceded in death by her parents. Wesley J. Ley

Wesley Jon Ley, 54, a resident of Grayslake, passed away Friday December 26, 2014.  He was born June 7, 1960 in Great Lakes, IL to Celestine “Frenchy” and Virginia (nee: Herbst) Ley.  Wesley was an Adjunct Professor at DePaul University, previous Board Member of the Prairie Crossing Charter School, and a proud owner of The Goddard School in Vernon Hills.  He was a graduate of Warren Township High School in 1978, a graduate of Northern Illinois University, and received his MBA from the Lake Forest School of Management.  Wesley was a loving husband to his wife of 26 years, Ellen (nee: May) Ley, whom he wed on April 30, 1988 in Waukegan, and a loving father to his children Virginia, Colin, Nathan, and Riley all of Grayslake.  He was also survived by his stepmother Betty Ley and his siblings Carol Ann (Stephen) Mackay of Seattle, WA, David (Lori) Ley of Thomasville, GA and Jeff (Gretchen) Ley of Kenosha, WI.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother James Ley.  A visitation is scheduled for Monday December 29, 2014 from  4:00pm until 8:00pm at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Jacqulyn G. Fogeltanz

Jacqulyn Gee Fogeltanz, 85, went home to be with the Lord at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2014, with great peace, in the presence of her loving family. She was born in Antigo, Wisconsin on June 4, 1929 to Watt and Louise Taylor Gee. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother John Andrews and infant sister Betty Louise; nephews David Jersey, Ricardo Harvey and Harold Harvey.

On April 8, 1951, she married Clarence Vernon Fogeltanz in Antigo at the First Baptist Church with whom she shared 55 wonderful years before the Lord called Clarence home in 2005.

She is survived by her two daughters, Clarice Gail (John) Karinja of Hendersonville, NC and Denise Carol(James) Kaar of Grayslake, Il.; three grandchildren – namesake Jacqueline Karinja, Taylor Kaar, and Andrew (Lindsey) Kaar; four siblings – Watt Palmer Gee, Nathalie Ruth Harvey, both of Antigo Wisconsin, Keith Leonard (Bea) Gee of Jennnings, OK, Gail Geraldine Gee of Foley, AL. She had many nieces and nephews and they all knew and loved their Auntie Jackie. Jacqulyn leaves behind her beloved pet, Koko.

Jacqulyn was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and aunt who was supremely proud of her family. She was a tower of strength, pushing forward through all adversity. She worked hard all of her life in the secretarial field and then forged a new career in real estate in Libertyville, Ill. She achieved great things in support of her family. Jacqulyn was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Waukegan, Ill , before she retired with Clarence to North Carolina. She loved the old hymns and in later years learned to play the organ, spending many hours with the hymnal. She knew the Bible inside and out and often quoted from it. Jacqulyn was a wonderful cook. She served up Sunday dinners, remembered to this day by all who enjoyed them. She made the best apple pies ever and always had a spare loaf of homemade bread to give away.

Jacqulyn walked in faith her whole life, accepting Christ at a young age. She fought the good fight; she finished the race; and she kept the faith. She will always be the heart of our hearts.

Alberta A. Sweetwood

Alberta A. Sweetwood, 96, of Wildwood, passed away Sunday December 21, 2014. She was born September 7, 1918 in Monroe, WI to Jay and Gladys Eaton. Alberta was a member of Wildwood Presbyterian Church and the Warren Township Senior Center. She loved crafting and doing crossword puzzles. Alberta is survived by her children Robert (Geraldine) Sweetwood, Kenneth Sweetwood, and Donna Bullock, her grandchildren James (Crickett) Sweetwood, Christine Sweetwood, Carleen Sweetwood, and Amanda Bullock, her great-grandchildren Jace Sweetwood and Kaili Sumonja, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray, her son Gary, and her brother Wilbur. Calvin Glen Cox II

Calvin Glen Cox II, age 19, of Wadsworth, went home to Jesus December 9th, 2014, at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, surrounded by family. He bravely battled NUT Midline Carcinoma, an extremely rare and fatal, adolescent lung cancer in non-smokers. Calvin was born March 19th, 1995 in Lake Forest, the third child of Calvin and Susan Cox. He attended College of Lake County pursuing a double major in Chemical Engineering and Music. He received “Semester Honors for Academic Excellence” for each semester at CLC and was in his fourth semester. Calvin had a beautiful voice and sang many genres. He was a member of the College of Lake County Choir, the Music Source Professional Rock and Roll Band and in a metal band with friends. He was an accomplished musician, accompanying his self with guitar and keyboard. He enjoyed classical, rock, and his favorite band “Iron Maiden” concerts. Calvin received “Renaissance Man Award” from teachers for his versatility. He wrote poetry, stories, music and acted in plays. His works were published in a school magazine. He was a lifelong tinkerer, delighting us with his contraptions and alternative ways of doing things. Cal had a keen sense of duty and carried his weight in every organization he joined. He was the secretary of the Psychology Club at CLC and received the Silver Circle of Achievement Award for his contributions to the club. A gentle soul, Cal conducted his life in a caring manner. He completed the American Red Cross program to help if needed in CPR and First Aid. He received a “Recognition Award” for his service to The N.E. Farmsteads growing vegetables for the food pantry. An animal lover, he received a “Recognition Award” from the Humane Society for caring for cats at the shelter. He lifted weights daily and was extremely strong. His other activities include Yoga, running 5 K races for charity, and snowboarding in the Green Mountains of New Hampshire. He was a member of the Warren High School Wrestling Team and also enjoyed archery, target shooting, fishing and Tai Kwon Do. Ralph Waldo Emerson said “It is not the length of life that counts but the depth.” In his short time Cal fathomed the depths of a life well lived. Calvin is sadly missed by his parents, Calvin and Susan; sisters, Kjersten, Susanne and Alyssa; grandmother, Vivian Gwaltney; a host of aunts and uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Russell Gwaltney; grandparents, Darius and Evelyn Cox; and cousin, Keith Cox. Robert M. Schlesser

Robert M. Schlesser, 49, a resident of Round Lake Beach, passed away Monday December 15, 2014 in McHenry. He was born August 16, 1965 in Highland Park to Robert and Adeline (nee: Warnke) Schlesser. Robert was an avid Bears and Cubs fan, loved to grill out, woodworking, and watching Dr. Who. Robert is survived by his wife of 25 years, Melanie, whom he wed on September 9, 1989 in Libertyville, his children Garrett, Rachael, and Samantha “Sam” all of Round Lake Beach, his sisters Pamela (Chris) Newmann of Madison, and Bonnie (Walker) Norniella of Waukegan, 4 nephews, and 3 nieces. Arthur J. “John” Corey

Arthur J. “John” Corey, age 89, a resident of Grayslake, passed away Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He was born September 23, 1925 to Charles and Helen (Schmarje) Corey in Woodstock, IL. John graduated from Woodstock Community High School in 1942 and later from the Lake Forest School of Management. He was the first person to legally join the Marine Corps at the age of sixteen. He was among the troops who initially landed on Bougainville and Guam during World War II. John retired from Deringer Manufacturing Company after 40 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion, a charter member of the Woodstock VFW, and the past president of  the Mark Twain Grade School PTA in Wheeling. John headed an effort that established a work co-op program between Libertyville High School and the industry in the area. He was a member of the group that got a vocational program started at the College of Lake County. John was a member of the group responsible for the development of the Chamber of Commerce in Madison County, North Carolina, where he served as master of ceremonies at two annual dinners before retiring. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing poker and cribbage, reading, watching Western movies and putting jigsaw puzzles together. John is survived by his sons, Scott (Barbara), Steven (Shelley), Keith, and Ross (Joan); his daughter, Stacy (Todd) Dalness; seven grandchildren, Melissa (John), Amy, David (Becky), Kathryn, Megan, Hannah, and Travis; and four great-grandchildren, Chloe, Zoe, Alexandra and Benjamin. Arthur’s parents, his wife Ida, and a brother, Leroy, preceded him in death. Ronald L. Nootbaar

Ronald L. Nootbaar, 78, a resident of Grayslake Carillon North and formerly of Park Forest, passed away Thursday December 11, 2014. He was born August 12, 1936 in Harvey, IL to Edwin and Frieda Nootbaar. Ronald had worked for Roberts Colonial House in South Holland. He was a vigil member of the Order of the Arrow and earned scouting’s Silver Beaver award. He pursued many hobbies especially stained glass. Ronald is survived by his wife of 55 years, Doris, his sons David (Sofia) Nootbaar and Mark (Karen) Nootbaar, his granddaughters Lisa, Laura, Lindsay, and Paige Nootbaar, and his siblings Gene (Vi) Nootbaar and Jane Nootbaar. Theresa C. Kepler

Theresa C. (nee: Orlando) Kepler, passed away December 8, 2014 at Manorcare in Libertyville. Arthur her beloved husband left her to join God on March 8, 2005. Arthur was a very good husband, father, and grandpa. Theresa was born in Crivitz, WI to Joseph and Concetta Orlando. Theresa was one of their 10 children. Her parents had a very big farm located 14 miles from the town of Crivitz. She helped on the farm even though she disliked it. When she finished Crivitz High School, she came to Chicago and lived with her dear sister Carmella (Dominick Orlando). She liked her time living there and worked for many places in and around Chicago. One day she met this handsome man with a big heart, Arthur. They were married October 8, 1949. In 1956 the became parents to a sweet special girl and named her Deborah Lynn. Deborah attended Waubonsee College in Sugar Grove, IL, where she met the love of her life, Michael. They were married in 1978. Theresa has two wonderful grandsons Jason and Brandon Davis. Theresa is also survived by her sister Rosemary Lanzortta of Elkhorn, WI, her sister-in-law Vera Morris of Wildwood, IL, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Theresa was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Vernon Hills for over 25 years. This is where Theresa met Pastor John Finnegan. Pastor John helped Theresa, especially when her devoted husband, Arthur, passed. Joyce A. Ronner

Joyce Arlene Ronner, aged 77, died peacefully on December 2, 2014 at home in Antioch, IL after a brief struggle with lung cancer. Joyce was born January 1, 1937 in Bronx, NY, the daughter of Herbert E. Ronner and Amelia Barbara Steimle. A consummate mother and homemaker, Joyce was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. She also loved to watch cooking shows and passed on her culinary talents to her children and grandchildren. Joyce’s passions were drawing, painting, and crocheting, and anything purple. She was also a sports fan who enjoyed Cubs baseball & Green Bay Packers football. Family and friends were Joyce’s passion and delight. She loved to travel and enjoyed many a road trip exploring the US. In addition to raising her four children, she also cared for other’s children in her later years. She is survived by her children Joseph Cutaia of Kenosha, WI, Dona (Fred) Beck of Sebring, FL, Paul Jaworski of Wildwood, IL and Barbara Ronner of Antioch, IL, her four loving grandchildren Brian (Jill) Lathen, Michael Schultz, Kellie Beck, and Allison Beck, and one great-grandson Gunner Lathen, her brother Herbert (Kathryn) Ronner, her sister Carol (Bill) Hatzmann, and loving nieces and their families. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends. Raymond Paul Van Ryckeghem, 48, a resident of Grayslake, IL passed away November 30, 2014 at his home. He was born April 8, 1966 in Madison Heights, MI to Raymond and Terry (nee: Beneteau) Van Ryckeghem. Raymond was a proud veteran having served with the Air Force Special Operations. He was a computer geek extraordinaire, avid rifle shooter, and loved b-movies, motorcycles, and dogs. Laura L. Pakosta, 58, a resident of Wildwood, IL passed away Monday December 1, 2014. She was born August 25, 1956 in Oak Park, IL to Albert and Clarice Johnson. Laura worked for Hollister Incorporated for over 5 years and for Temple Steel for over 13 years. She was devoted mother and grandmother. Ronald C. Bartoli, 74, a resident of Round Lake, passed away Friday November 28, 2014 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He was born January 30, 1940. Darrel D. Hamblin

Darrell D. Hamblin, age 49, a resident of Grayslake, passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 19, 2014. He was born in Kentucky on July 13, 1965 to Bert and Diana (nee Baker) Hamblin. Darrell loved to collect rocks, minerals, crystals and dragons. He also liked to fish and grow plants. He is survived by his daughter, Heather Seminary of Grayslake; his grandson, Michael Eduard Phillippe Seminary of Grayslake; his mother, Diana Hamblin of Kenosha; his sister, Edwina Epley of Kenosha; two nieces, Samantha Epley and Shaunna Epley; and a nephew, Alex Epley. He was preceded in death by his dad. Memorial donations may be made to the family. Rachel E. Robertson

Rachel E. Robertson, 20, a resident of Grayslake, passed away on November 23, 2014.  In spite of the years spent waging battle against her addictions, those addictions finally proved stronger than she.  Rachel’s life was cut short, but during her time her with us, she touched many.  May she find peace now.  Rachel was born on May 21, 1994 in Santa Rosa CA to Regan Robertson and Stephen Toleson.  Rachel is survived by her beloved son, Silas Sutton and Silas’s father, Jonathon Sutton, her parents, Regan and Stephen and sisters Ashley Perez and Shiane Toleson.  Also surviving Rachel are her aunts Donna (Robert) Johnson, Julie (Larry) Fletcher, Sally (Jack) Traughber, Suzette Norrbom, Sandy Toleson and her uncle Thomas Toleson.  Rachel is also survived by her many cousins who loved her dearly. Rachel is preceded in death by her grandparents Mary Ellen and Don Robertson, Juanita and Darby Brown, and her cousins Alexie Norrbom and Lisa Toleson
