Patricia A. Hoffman

Patricia Ann Hoffman, 80, a resident of Grayslake, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at her home. She was born November 16, 1934 in Milwaukee, WI to Victor and Hattie (nee: Popowski) Gutsch. Pat was a certified master gardener, a very good tennis player, loved arts and crafts, and was devoted to her husband and children. Pat is survived by her husband of 57 years, J. Thomas Hoffman, whom she wed on January 18, 1958 in Cudahy, WI, her children Kurt of Savannah, GA, Laurie of Powder Springs, GA, and Karl (Julie) of Acworth, GA, her granddaughter Carley of Acworth, GA, and her sister Jean (Del) Wagner of Milwaukee, WI. Kenneth F. Maslana

Kenneth Frank Maslana, 65, a resident of Hainesville, passed away Monday, May 4, 2015, at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He was born February 15, 1950 in Chicago, IL to Frank and Evelyn (nee: Winter) Maslana. Ken liked to feed the ducks in the dark and being in nature. He loved movie night with the grandkids and his biggest hobby was his family. Ken is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda, whom he wed on May 1, 1971 in Chicago, IL, his children Debbie (Steve) Genc of Hainesville, Kenneth Jr. (Wendy) of Topeka, IL, and Michael of Hainesville, his grandchildren Zach, Jake, Ben, Samantha, Courtney, and MacKenzie, and his brother Tom of Huntley, IL. Paul E. Peterson

Paul E. Peterson, 53, a resident of Grayslake, passed away Friday May 1, 2015 in Lake Forest, IL. He was born March 3, 1962 in Waukegan, IL to Howard and Shirley Peterson. Paul had worked for Abbott Labs/Abbvie for over 27 years. He was a graduate of Warren High School in 1981 and Carthage College in 1985. Paul was an avid Bears fan. He was a very loving and caring family oriented man, who will be forever loved and missed by family and friends. Paul is survived by his wife of 19 years, Susan, his parents Howard and Shirley Peterson, his children Jesse, Stephanie, Erik, and Rachel, his brother Craig Peterson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy Sobolewski

Dorothy Sobolewski, 91, a resident of Round Lake, passed away Saturday May 2, 2015 at Addolorata Villa in Wheeling, IL. She was born July 1, 1923 in Chicago, IL to Joseph and Mary Schwarz. Dorothy was a member of St. Joseph Church in Round Lake, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 66 years, Louis, whom she married on December 27, 1948. She was a loving mother to James, Thomas (Stephanie), Katherine (Roger), John (Laura), and Jerome (Heather), proud grandmother of Joe (Laura), Anne, Jennifer (Ryan), Nicole, Joseph (Becca), Daniel, Patrick (Christie), Wynn (Julie), Alex (Danielle), Samantha, Margaret, Belle, and Casimir, great-grandmother of 7. Aunt Dot also loved her nieces and nephews like her own children. Edward J. Harrington

Edward “Eddie” J. Harrington, 68, a resident of Grayslake, passed away Thursday April 30, 2015 at his home.  He was born February 9, 1947 in Chicago to Edward and Marilyn Harrington.  Eddie had worked for Farley’s Candy Company in Skokie for 28 years and Caremark in Prospect Heights for 15 years.  He loved trains, spending time with his family, and enjoyed walking everywhere, He was known as “the walker guy” in Morton Grove.  He also enjoyed going to Chicago to all the lakeside events.  Eddie is survived by his sister Linda (Bill) Croft, his brother Scott (Stephany) Harrington, his niece Megan Harrington, his cousins Daryl Johnson and Karen Pond, and his favorite dog Ginger.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his dog Stormy and Linda’s dog Winston.  A visitation is scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with a memorial service beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 East Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oasis of Grayslake, 151 Hawley St. Grayslake, IL 60030.  For information, please call 847-223-8122 or visit www.strangfuneral.org.

Michael David Cummings

Michael David Cummings, age 67, of Round Lake, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.  He was born in Petersburg, IL on October 8, 1947 to Charles and Aileen (nee Moore) Cummings.  Mike loved the Cubs and NASCAR.  He was a Vietnam veteran and a lifelong member of the VFW. He retired from the Department of Corrections after 28 years. Mike is survived by his wife of 43 years, Karen, whom he married on February 25, 1972 in Phoenix, AZ; his father, Charles Felix; his children Katrina (Brad) Barger of Herrin, IL and Michael (Jana) Cummings of Round Lake; his grandchildren, Kirsten Edwards, Colton Edwards, Aidan Barger, Madeleine Cummings, Evan Cummings and Camden Cummings; and his siblings, Linda Scranton of Tremont, IL, Larry (Carol) Cummings of Springfield, IL, Kay Cooper of Beardstown, IL, Cindy (Mark) Addler of Peoria, AZ, and Chuck Cummings of Bloomington, IN.  He was preceded in death by his mother and his brother-in-law, Robert Scranton. Wayne A. Hansen

Wayne A. Hansen, 62, of Grayslake, passed away Sunday April 26, 2015 at Advocate Condell Medical Center. He was born January 24, 1953 in Patuxent River, MD to Howard and Shirley Hansen. James M. Balmes

James M. “Jim” Balmes, 94, passed away on April 21, 2015.  He was born March 15, 1921 in Wilmette, IL to Joseph and Theresa [Pestka] Balmes. Raised in Wadsworth, IL, he attended St. Anastasia Grade School and Warren Township High School.  Jim served his country stateside in the Army Air Corps 1941-1944. After having met her in high school, he married Lois Potter April 15, 1944 at St. Patrick’s Church in Wadsworth. After the war, they settled in Gurnee, IL to raise their six children. Jim worked as a bookkeeper for Gurnee V & S Hardware then obtained his IRS certificate and became a tax accountant for the Illinois Hardware Association. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing horseshoes, both which he did into his 90’s. As an active member of St. Gilbert’s Church, Grayslake, IL, he belonged to the Holy Name Society and the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Jim and Lois remained loyal to the Warren Township High School athletic teams and Jim served on the school board. They volunteered many hours to both the Lake County Historical Society and the Lake County Museum. In his retirement years, Jim returned to his grade school as a volunteer for the St. Anastasia Outreach Program.  Jim is survived by his children Dianne [Lanny] Cummings, Janet [Dick] Sleyster, Pat Balmes, Ed Balmes, Charlie [Kathy] Balmes and Nancy [Russ] Panzarella. He is also survived by his grandchildren Heather [Ron] Kaufmann, Keith Cummings, Rich, Dave [Jen] and Darin [Kristy] Sleyster, Anne [Nate] Timmons, Nick [Elena], Mary, James, CJ, Nicole and Eric Balmes, Stacy [Chris] Hutchcraft, Brad and Alli Panzarella; great grandchildren Daniel Kaufmann, Kayleigh and Breccan Sleyster, Owen, Isaiah, Eli and Evelyn Timmons, Dylan Hutchcraft and soon to arrive William Balmes. FlorenceM. Hironinimus

Florence M. Hironimus, 94, formerly of Waukegan, passed away Friday April 24, 2015. She was born June 12, 1920 in Bland, MO to Henry and Una Aufder Heide. Florence was retired from the North Chicago VA Medical Center. She was a member of the Osage County Historical Society in Missouri, Lake County Geneological Society, Lake County Fair Association, and Daughters of the American Revolution. Florence is survived by her son Lonnie (Sue) Hironimus of Bristol, WI, her grandchildren Lynn (John) Salisbury, Craig Hironimus, Brad (Nicki) Hironimus, and Kurt (Lisa) Hironimus, 10 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and her sister Floreine Stockton. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clifford Hironimus in 1972, her sisters Wilma Ruth Aufder Heide, Lois Beasley, and Sarah Bock and her brothers Warren Artur and David Robert Aufder Heide. John C. Longshore

John C. Longshore, 56, of Trevor, WI, passed away unexpectedly on April 19, 2015, at his home. John was born on November 2, 1958, in Denver, CO, to Glenn and Mardell Longshore, nee Reiner.  Even after moving to Wisconsin, John continued to be an avid fan of the Bears, Bulls and the Blackhawks.  He enjoyed following the Chicago Fire soccer team, going to the games with his children, and especially enjoyed stopping for the game winning treats on the way home.  John liked to cook and bake, and was famous for his wonderful chocolate cakes. He loved to travel and had recently taken trips to Costa Rica and the Grand Canyon with his family.  He had just returned from a trip to Florida where he enjoyed spending time fishing on the Anclote River.  He was looking forward to a return trip to Ireland in the near future.   He had property in the LaCrosse, WI area that he enjoyed visiting, and hoped to build on one day.
John can be described as one of the nicest men you could know.  He would do anything, for anybody, whenever asked.  This meant that he didn’t get to work on many of his own projects, including wood working, but John was that kind of a man, and everyone who knew him will miss him greatly.
John is survived by his daughter, Samantha Longshore, of Milwaukee, WI, and his son, Aaron Longshore of Bristol, WI, as well as his former wife, Sherri, with whom he remained friends.  John is further survived by his brother Glenn E. (Sue) Longshore, Lake Villa, IL, his nephews Alex, and Christian, and his great niece, Braelyn.  John was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Karl. He will be greatly missed by everyone in Sherri’s family, as a wonderful brother-in-law, son-in-law, uncle, and great uncle.

Barbara Jean Gilbert, 75, passed away on April 8, 2015 at home, in Wildwood. Barbara was born on July 1, 1939, to Walter and Evelyn Purdy nee Miller in Chicago, IL. Barbara loved to crochet blankets for The Project Linus, a non- profit organization that would meet once a month, providing homemade blankets to children in need. George A. Gruber

George Gruber, age 90, of Grayslake, passed away Friday, April 3, 2015 at his home.  He was born on June 27, 1924 in Chicago, IL to Charles and Elsie Gruber.  He was a veteran of World War II having served for the US Army and a member of the Grayslake American Legion. George graduated from Sign School and worked as a sign painter, as a milkman for Spinney Run Farms in Libertyville for over 30 years, and as a janitor for Magee Middle School in Round Lake and College of Lake County, and was a volunteer Grayslake Police Officer.    George was a member and volunteer, as a minister of care for the sick, of St. Gilbert Church and a volunteer and minister of care for St. Therese Hospital and Winchester House.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Antioch Moose Lodge.  George is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary, his children, James (Paula) Gruber, Eileen (Jim) Siwula, Gerard (Jackie) Gruber, and George Gruber Jr., his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his sister Imelda Thome, and his numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Ann, his sons Gregory and Eugene, and his 2 brothers and 1 sister.  Friends of the family may visit on Saturday, April 11, 2015 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at St. Gilbert Catholic Church 301 East Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030 with the funeral mass commencing at 9:30 a.m. at the church. George E. Weinert

George E. Weinert, age 53, of Grayslake, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2015 at Advocate Condell in Libertyville, IL. He was born on January 26, 1962 in Choteau, MT to James and Annetta Weinert. George worked for 25 years for W W Grainger and was a member of the Grayslake Park District for over 10 years. He enjoyed fishing, brewing his own beer, and fixing anything that was broken. Ronald John Deiler

Ronald John Deiler, 69, of Grayslake, passed away on March 28, 2015 at Condell Hospital in Libertyville, Il. Ron was born on February 9, 1946 to John and Alice Deiler nee Ullman, in Chicago ,IL. Ron loved the Green Bay Packers, he was an avid hunter, fisherman, he also had a passion for gardening, landscaping, but what Ron cherished most was his time spent with his entire family. Ron was an Alumus Of Northland College in Ashland, Wi, and retired after working 30 plus years at Tyson Foods. Survivors include Ron’s wife of 39 years Christine, they were married on June 29, 1975 in Chicago, Il. Ron’s children David(Kelly)Deiler of Grayslake, Allison(James)Simon of Crystal Lake, Ron was a devoted grampy to Mikayla, John, Jimmy, and Annabelle. Victoria Ann Wylie, 56, a resident of Lake Villa, IL passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015 in McHenry, IL. She was born January 4, 1959 in Evanston, IL to Arthur and Roberta Phillips. She was a member of the North Lake County Quilters Guild and had worked for the Durham Bus Company in Lake Villa as a bus driver and bus aid. Anthony T. DuBeau

Anthony T. DuBeau, 23, a resident of Kenosha, WI, passed away March 11, 2015 at MCAS Yuma, AZ. He was born November 28, 1991 in Libertyville, IL to Tonia and Brian DuBeau. Anthony was an outstanding and exceptional Marine, always striving to be the best and going above and beyond in every aspect of his life. He had joined the Marine Corps on April 1, 2013 and reached the rank of Lance Corporal. Anthony was the loving husband to Candice DuBeau, having been together for 8 ½ years. He was also survived by his mother Tonia DuBeau, his siblings Steve DuBeau, Michael (Shana Bailey) DuBeau, and Almony DuBeau, his cousin Mario Aguirre, his aunt Tena Winsett, his dad Brian DuBeau, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandpa Larry Winsett. Friends of the family may visit on Saturday, March 21, from 1:15p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with a funeral service commencing at 6:30pm at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake, IL.
