Martha Ruiz
Obituary's Biography:
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Martha Ruiz on December 3, 2024. Born in Tsingtao, China, Martha was a cherished mother, wife, aunt, great-aunt, and friend to many.
Martha was a strong and independent woman whose passion for learning earned her a degree from Florida State College. Martha was adventurous; she began her career as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines, embracing the opportunity to travel and connect with people from all walks of life. This led to her meeting Jose Guillermo, her husband of 50 years, and living in Puerto Rico for several years. This is where her beloved daughter, Vanessa, was born. Guille’s job moved the family to Mainland U.S., where they lived in California, Atlanta, Chicago and lastly the suburbs of Chicago. Over the years, her career evolved, ultimately leading her to become an Executive Assistant at Baxter and later at Abbott. She dedicated herself to her work at both companies and continued to fulfill her responsibilities up until her last few days.
Family was everything to Martha. She was always present to support her, brother, sister and nieces in Jacksonville, FL. A special occasion or event was never missed. Martha flew frequently to Jacksonville to spend quality time with her loved ones, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to family ties. She adored her two puppies, Jaxson and Mickey, as well as all other cherished pets she had through her life.
Martha had a zest for life and will be remembered for her dry humor, love of scary movies, and joy in swimming and entertaining poolside during the brief Illinois summers. Her warmth and kindness touched the lives of many, creating lasting memories for all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Vanessa Ruiz; her sister Nancy (Joseph) Shray; her nieces, Savannah (Denver) Mayo, and Amelia (Brian Roberts) Shray; her great-niece, Everly Mayo. She also leaves behind many dear friends. Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Guille; her parents, Lewis (Rex), and Marjorie (Margie) Clements; and her beloved brother, Milton Clements, who passed away earlier this year in April.
A visitation will be held at the funeral chapel from 2 PM until 4 PM on Saturday, January 4, 2025. A memorial service will follow at 4 PM at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Martha’s spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she loved and touched.

Martha was a remarkable woman whose warmth, intelligence, and dedication touched everyone she worked with at Abbott. Her adventurous spirit and commitment to excellence were truly inspiring. She will be deeply missed, and my heartfelt condolences go out to her family, especially Vanessa and Guille, during this difficult time.
Martha was the embodiment of kindness, always ready with a helping hand and genuinely cared for everyone around. No matter what she was dealing with in her personal or professional life, she always wore a genuine smile and carried a heart of gold. More than an EA, she was a friend to me and we shared many good laughs, thanks to her dry sense of humor.
Although Martha may no longer be with us, her warmth, laughter, and compassion will remain forever in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Martha. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A wonderful lady who will be sadly missed. She was so kind to me and was adored by her amazing daughter and my friend Vanessa. We miss you.
