Obituary's Biography:
Lily Saleh, 89, a resident of Grayslake, IL, passed away September 5, 2023 at her home. She was born July 7, 1934 in Gaza City, Gaza to Jacob and Victoria Tawil.
Lily emigrated from Palestine in September of 1962. Lily was one of seven children to Jacob and Victoria Tawil. She studied Home Economics at Cairo University. As a teacher in her homeland, she would meet her husband of 59 years, Hassan Saleh by accident. Hassan was coming to see Lily’s brother at their home in Gaza City. After a tumultuous courtship, they would fall in love despite religious differences make the move to America and then the Chicago area to begin a new life together. Lily and Hassan would settle in the suburbs raising her three boys. She was instrumental in starting a family business and establishing a life in a home they would enjoy for the last 30 years. Lily was an amazing cook; she would often cook with vegetables from the garden which she always enjoyed working in immensely. Her home was always open to family and friends as she enjoyed entertaining. Lily loved life and lived her life to the fullest.
Lily is survived by her children, Nayel Saleh (Donna) of Johnsburg, IL, Rayed Saleh (Mark Milkint) of Evanston, IL, Sayed Saleh of Grayslake, IL, her two surviving sisters, Adlette El Tawil (Adib Jabra) of Vienna, Austria and Yvonne Khoury (Suhail) of Amman, Jordan. Lily is also survived many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews all over the world.
