Obituary's Biography:
Liliana Jian, 73, passed away the morning of March 4,2025 at her daughter’s home in Grayslake, IL, after bravely battling mesothelioma for two years.
Born in Romania, Liliana was a woman of intelligence, strength, and deep devotion to her family. She earned her degree from the Politehnica University of Timișoara, where she went on to serve as a tenured faculty member for 30 years. A passionate educator, she inspired generations of students before retiring and moving to the United States to spend time with her grandchildren and start a new chapter in her life.
Never one to sit still for long, Liliana found a second career in the U.S., using her natural talent for working with spreadsheets before retiring a second time. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with her beloved grandchildren, Stefan and Katherine, whom she adored.
Liliana is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, Ionel; her loving children, Alina (Lou) Veres and Lucian (Alice); her cherished grandchildren, Stefan and Katherine, her step-grandchildren Rocky and Hank; and her stepmother Dica. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ion and Maria Mujescu, and her brother, Puiu Mujescu.
Liliana’s kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of so many who knew and loved her.
A visitation and funeral service will be held at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030 on Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm with the service commencing at 6:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to mesothelioma and cancer research at University of Chicago Medicine, which gave her two more years to spend with her loved ones.
