Kevin C. Berner

Obituary's Biography:

Kevin Clayton Berner, age 50, a resident of Fox Lake, IL, passed away on August 1, 2024 at his home. He was born on January 17, 1974 in Skokie, IL to Victor and Gloria Berner.

Kevin loved music, video games, and movies. He worked for many years in movie theaters and a movie rental store where he made a great deal of lifelong friendships. For the last 20 years of his employment, he worked at Alight Solutions where he made countless connections.

Kevin’s love for the band Serendipity was well-known. He followed them for many years and eventually became part of their crew, helping out wherever he could. The band and their families became like family to Kevin, and he cherished sharing his love for Serendipity with his own family and friends, often inviting them to shows and traveling far and wide to enjoy his favorite band with his favorite people.

Affectionately nicknamed “Uncle” by his niece and nephew, Kevin showed up to countless sporting events to cheer them on. He became a staple in his niece’s Dawgs travel softball team, making friends with the players and their families. Uncle never missed an opportunity to video Kyla’s at-bats often announcing “Kyla’s up!”.  I don’t think any of us from the softball team will ever be able to say “Kyla’s up!” without a moment of happy sadness. We are all so grateful he was able to spend a week with his family and softball friends at the Dawg’s final tournament in Alabama the week before his passing.

Kevin was very close with his family, vacationing with his parents and sister through all his early years, continuing through the remainder of his life with his aunts, uncles, and cousins. He never missed a family birthday celebration or holiday. He loved his family very much.

Friends and family describe Kevin as one of the kindest people you will ever meet. He would do anything for anyone if asked. He also had a knack for being hysterically inappropriate, a trait that was loved by all. Kevin wasn’t like anyone else you know. He was unique in his own way and created so many wonderful memories for everyone he knew.

Kevin was absolutely taken from us far too soon, but we will be laughing and crying over his memories for the rest of our lives. We wish we could list every person we know was important in Kevin’s life and greatly appreciate all the beautiful posts made by friends and family on his Facebook page.

Kevin is survived by his parents, Victor and Gloria Berner; his sister, Christina McCarte; his niece and nephew, Kyla and Colten McCarte; his aunt and uncle, Judy (Roger) Mistak and Bob (Susan) Berner; and cousins, Rachel Kilschautzky, Cammy Adams, and Marc Taylor.

A visitation will be held at Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030 on Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 4pm until 8pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral chapel on Friday, August 9, 2024 at 10am.  Interment will be held at Concordia Cemetery in Forest Park, IL.
