Joan A. Duerig
Obituary's Biography:
Joan Alyssa Duerig (nee Clark), 60, of Grayslake, Illinois passed away November 1 after a hard fought battle with cancer. An incredible wife, mother, sister, and friend, she will be remembered for her humor, wit, and fierce advocacy for those who needed it.
Born June 23, 1964, Joan was raised in Northbrook, Illinois, the youngest of John and Cleopatra Clark’s four daughters. She graduated from Glenbrook North High School in 1982. Joan stayed in Northbrook and married her adoring husband, Eric ten years later. Together nearly 35 years until her death, they raised two extraordinary daughters, in the house Joan was raised in.
Joan wore many hats, some professional – banker, educator, administrator – and some not – stage mom, troop leader, costume maker, minivan taxi driver – but the role she was most proud of was being the mother of her girls, Jenna and Julia.
Joan is survived by her husband, Eric, her daughters, Jenna MacTaggart (Bruce), and Julia Mucha (Jerry), her sisters, Jill, Joy (Leo), and Jan, nieces and nephews, Allyson (Mike), Stephanie (Ben), Leigh (Tim), Lexi (Mike), Jack, Joshua (Amanda), Nataline, and Nicholas, grandnieces and nephews, Theo, Harrison, Penelope, Selah, Noah, Luke, Michael, Henry, and Leon, and countless dear friends.
A celebration commemorating Joan’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite organization supporting children and their education. All arrangements were entrusted to Strang Funeral Chapel, 410 E Belvidere Road, Grayslake, IL 60030. For more information, please call (847)223-8122 or visit www.StrangFuneral.org.
