Obituary's Biography:
Jean M. Johnson 65, resident of Grayslake, IL passed away peacefully on January 27th, 2025, at home. Born October 10, 1959, to the late Don and Shirlee Gervens.
Jean grew up in Morton Grove, IL where she graduated from Main East High School.
After high school, she attended Ray Vogue Design Institute in Chicago to study fashion design and window dressing. After school, Jean worked in retail throughout most of her life, including Fashion Plus as a Store Manager, where she ultimately met the love of her life, Keith Johnson.
She was an avid book worm, reading several hundred books a year and borrowing over 4,500 books from local libraries since 2008. Jean also loved working in the garden to grow beautiful flowers and fresh fruits. When not reading or gardening or playing Tetris into the early morning, she loved spending time crafting and going on adventures with her grandchildren. She always looked forward to family trips to Florida, loved being by the water and searching for her smooth rocks.
Jean is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, her parents Don and Shirlee Gervens.
Jean is survived by her children, Tiffany Johnson, Kevin (Samantha) Johnson, three wonderful grandchildren, Dylan, Lilly and Jack, her siblings Don (Cathy) Gervens, John (Jody) Gervens, Lynn (Richard) Frierman and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Her idea of perfect happiness was sitting on a beach with a great book and a good Mai Tai with family close by (but not too close, otherwise she wouldn’t be able to read her book).
A celebration of life for Jean will be held on February 6th from 3-7 PM at Mickey Finn’s, located at 345 N Milwaukee Ave, Libertyville, IL 60048. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Jean’s honor to Bernie’s Book Bank, a nonprofit organization based in Lake Forest, IL, committed to providing books to children in need.
