Erica Semenchuk
Obituary's Biography:
Erica Semenchuk passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family after a three-year battle with colon cancer on January 19th. Erica was born on July 4th 1978 in Sandwich, IL, so every birthday was a celebration of fireworks for her. Erica’s family was her life, her love, and her everything. She was known and loved by many, as her kindness, generosity, and true compassion for people were a beacon of light. Erica loved being a dance mom, a football mom, the best mom and wife in the world, cheering on the Bears and Sox with her family, her pets Rudy, Fancy, S’mores, and Peanut, flowers, her garden, anything purple, reading, writing, and the farm she grew up on. With Journalism and English degrees, and a Masters in Teaching, she is likely editing this from Heaven right now. She is survived by her devoted husband of 20 years Charlie (Chuck) Semenchuk, the absolute lights of her life Hadley, Eleanor, and Patrick, her parents Gary and Leslie Fatland, brother Nate (Shannon) Fatland, brother Luke (Kathi) Fatland, sister Taylor (Mitch) Bogda, and her five nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will take place at Lord of Glory Lutheran Church 607 W Belvidere Rd Route 120, Grayslake, IL on Wednesday January 25th. Visitation will be from 1-5pm, followed by a worship service, and interment of ashes in the garden. The family asks that everyone wear something purple since this was Erica’s favorite color. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of the following causes in Erica’s honor: A college fund for Hadley, Eleanor, and Patrick (https://www.gofundme.com/f/s47qf), the Mayo Clinic cancer research fund, or the Erica Semenchuk Memorial Scholarship fund at Lord of Glory Lutheran Church.
All funeral arrangements were entrusted to Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030. Please log onto www.strangfuneral.org or contact 847-223-8122.

Beautiful Erica…gone too soon. You will be lovingly remembered by your family, friends, and everyone who knew you. I pray for the peace, comfort, and strength that only God can bring you.
Even though I only knew Erica and Charlie for four months while we traveled along similar roads. The inspiration Erica showed will always be with me along with the few in person “moments” we had. One of the many amazing abilities she had was to be able to smile and joke around while having a chemo treatment. She and her family, sort of, became a part of me. She will be sorely missed, but will be leaving behind many millions of memories with many people. God Bless you Erika.
My heart goes out to Leslie and Gary Fatland, Erica’s parents and to her sister and brothers. I am so sad and sorry for all of you. May God bless you with comfort in this difficult time.

My deepest condolences to the family and all close to Erica.
We became friends at NIU and I feel so lucky to have a true friend like her. I ve missed her dearly all these years, since I returned to Greece and it hurts that I didn’t get to see her since.
Erica, it is hard to say goodbye from so far and so soon, so until we meet again…rest in peace.
Love you always, your friend Yanna
