Dorisann Flynn
Obituary's Biography:
Dorisann Grace Flynn, 83, born July 7, 1938, joined her loving husband and oldest daughter in heaven on January 20, 2022. A sweet Momma, Grammy, GG, Auntie Dor and special friend to many. Who at every moment of her life, gave everything and asked for nothing in return. Born and raised in the southside Back of the Yards neighborhood in Chicago to the late Arthur and Doris Cox. Here is where she met her lifelong best friend, the late Judy Roudebush, did years of community theatre, and was introduced to the love of her life, the late Jack Flynn. They met when she was 17 yrs old, introduced after one of his 16” softball games, by a friend. Eventually, Jack got the courage to ask her out on a date, after both would attend Lent Mass each morning at St. Gabriel Church in Chicago. The church was a large part of their courtship. It is there that they were married in September, 1957. In 1969, they moved with their 6 children to Waukegan, IL where she worked for Rebound, a transitional youth home for 28 years, then on to working as the administrative secretary for the Director of Surgery at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital until 2011, when she retired. Their final years were spent in a lovely home in Grayslake, IL.
Faithful and loving wife for 58 years to the late John ”Jack” Flynn. Sister of the late Bill and Shirley Cox, survived by brother, Greg Cox. Loving mother of 6 children: the late Kathy Flynn and survived by Ann, Neil, Tim, Dan Flynn, Ellen (Mark) Gerbasi. Grandmother to Robin (Josh) Fjeseth, Mike (Lyndsey) Paavilainen, Jenny (Adam) Sponnick, Renee (Ben) Oakley, Phoebe Flynn, Margot (Danial) Flynn-Chavez, Carl (Ashlee) Flynn, Claire, Marie and Jack Gerbasi. Great Grandmother to Emma, Graham, Hadley, Flynn, Nevie, Kali, Ainsley, and Teagan. Aunt to Bill (Kathy) Cox and Michael Cox. Great Aunt to Jenna and Anthony Cox. Her legacy of love and kindness lives on in the lives of all those she touched over the years and especially through her many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass to be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6401 Gages Lake Road Gurnee, IL 60031 at 9:30 a.m., on Saturday, March 5, 2022.
