Barbara J. Bonde
Obituary's Biography:
Barbara Jane Bonde, 88, a resident of Round Lake Beach, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2021 at Harbor Chase of Long Grove Assisted Living Facility. She was born on April 2, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois, to Catherine and Kenneth Bonde.
Barbara graduated from Grayslake High School and Illinois State University in Normal. She taught school for several years and then worked in the medical field in Chicago for 10 years before devoting her time and talents to her blossoming antiques business. In 1969 she established The Country Boutique Antiques Shop in Hainesville which she operated until 1998. She loved buying and selling antiques and enjoyed her customers, many of whom became lifelong friends. She had a reputation of fairness and honesty in the field. She kept her interest in antiques, buying and selling out of her home until recent years.
Barbara was a fun-loving aunt to her 4 nieces and 1 nephew. They all loved summer vacations at the lake with ‘Aunt Barb’ and Grandma, where they were treated to lots of fun activities, that always included antiquing and shopping!
She was a great entertainer, hosting many parties in her home for family and friends. She especially loved having the family for Christmas celebrations, which were always very special!
Barbara is survived by her brother Kenneth Bonde and his wife Betsy, her brother-in-law Charles Baker, her niece Catherine VanLeuven and her husband Doug, her niece Jean Armstrong and her husband Chris and her niece Susan Baker, her 9 great nieces and nephews and her 4 great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Catherine and Kenneth Bonde, her sister Betty Ann Baker, her niece Karen Bonde Stasko and her nephew Eric Bonde.
Barbara’s family will celebrate her life at a private Memorial service. Donations in her memory may be made to her chosen charity: St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Judes Place, Memphis, TN. 38105. All funeral arrangements were privately held and entrusted to Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium 410 E. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030. I was a country girl from Indiana who knew primitive antiques when I moved to Grayslake. I still remember the first time I walked into her shop. She and her mother were there surrounded by things I had never seen. I learned so much from her. She was a strong, independent, accomplished woman.
