While browsing Des Plaines history on google, came upon the obituary of Al Bade. My memories of the Bade family are the original bicycle shop, in the back of Gniots Standard Oil Station and next to the Prince Castle. The new business building was built across the street next to the big white house that housed Al’s Central School teachers Ms Dorghty and Ms Calder.
Back in 1957, 58 and 59, the local YMCA sponsored a Church softball league and Christ E&R church won the championships those years. E&R’s team was led by second baseman Al Bade.
Al’s teammates Wayne Kaufmann, 1B, Hugo Dahm, SS, Harold Fendius, 3B, Earl Barnhart, C, Lenny Wolfe, P, Larry Poyer, LF, Terry Smith, CF, John Prellberg, RF, Gary Smith, SCF, and rooters Pastor Wobbe, Mr. Kerbs and Mr. Fred Fulle, all offer our condolences to Al, his wife, children and the entire Bade family. Rest in Peace Al.
